UBS ARTS FORUM «PRIVATE COLLECTING: FASCINATION AND RESPONSIBILITY» MONDAY, 12 SEPTEMBER TO TUESDAY, 13 SEPTEMBER 2016, WOLFSBERG, ERMATINGEN

The forum aims to provide first-hand information on key issues for art collectors through a combination of keynote presentations and discussions. It will address the responsibilities of collectors as well as legal, financial and practical aspects. The range of topics covered will include corporate collections as well as artists’ estates as special types of private collections.

In the sense of an «A to Z Guide» for collectors it will also address practical issues like the business of lending, moving or keeping one’s collection. The fascination for art remains at the horizon of all our questions. The conference will also offer a wonderful opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss these issues in a collegial setting.

Co-President, Judd Foundation, Los Angeles Flavin Judd is the Co-President of Judd Foundation and the son of Donald Judd. For Judd Foundation, he is the curator for all exhibitions, overseeing architectural projects, art installations, and curatorial matters. He is co-editor of the forthcoming publication, Donald Judd Writings, and leads design decisions across the Foundation’s many projects. For Donald Judd, he assisted in the making of spaces and the installation of art in the United States and Europe. His installation and architecture for the 2006 Christie’s exhibition of his father’s work earned an AICA award. He oversaw, with fellow board member Rob Beyer, and determined the design of the 101 Spring Street restoration, which has won numerous awards. He studied at CalArts, art and cinema, and the University of Texas, Austin, philosophy and architecture.

Barry Rosen grew up in San Diego and is an international art advisor representing estates to a number of eminent living artists like Ida Applebroog, Dale Chihuly, Eva Hesse or Dieter Roth since 1980. He is member of a wide range of different boards and commitees, for example of the New Museum, the Cummington Community for the Arts, the Tacoma Museum of Art, the Hilltop A.I.R., the Triple Canopy or the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art.

Dr. Loretta Würtenberger Direktorin, The Institute for Artitsts’ Estates, Berlin

Dr. Loretta Würtenberger ist Gründerin von The Institute for Artists’ Estates und betreut unter anderem die Nachlässe der Künstler Hans Arp, Sophie Taeuber-Arp und Keith Arnatt. Mit den Schwerpunkten Forschung, Vernetzung, Betreuung und Beratung widmet sich das Institut der Auseinandersetzung mit allen relevanten Themen, die die Arbeit mit Künstlernachlässen betreffen. Sie ist zudem Autorin des Buches «Der Künstlernachlass – ein Handbuch für Künstler, ihre Erben und Verwalter», 2016 im Hatje Cantz Verlag erschienen. Nach ihrem Studium der Rechtswissenschaften, Philosophie und Kunstgeschichte legte Loretta Würtenberger ihre Promotion mit Schwerpunkt Urheberrecht am Max-Planck-Institut in München ab und war anschließend Richterin am Landgericht Berlin, sowie lange Jahre unternehmerisch tätig. 1999 wurde sie als Unternehmerin des Jahres ausgezeichnet. Sie ist Partnerin bei Fine Art Partners und hält als Dozentin hält regelmäßig Vorlesungen an verschiedenen Universitäten, so z.B. in St. Gallen, Paris und Berlin.
