As always we offer a warm welcome to our match officials today.
Clare Warren
It’s possible you won’t agree with every decision they make during the course of the game, but please remember this is Rugby Union, not Association Football – if you’re the type who enjoys berating or even abusing officials, I would respectfully suggest this is not the place for you.
Please respect the match officials.
them in all our games today, our 1st and 3rd teams here at home and our 2nds and Colts travelling to Daventry, this is an unusual event nowadays. We welcome Peter Lyes from Daventry at lunch and he is joined by Keith Bateman the secretary of the East Midlands Rugby Union.
We can only wish for an improved performance this afternoon after what was a rather embarrassing loss away to Old Scouts last week in a game that was all but over by half time. It was one of those games when nothing seemed to work, no matter how hard we tried, but I am sure most of us have suffered this sort of game during our playing careers.
It is great to see several Colts from the early ‘90s with us this afternoon, who were looked after by John Hackett and Trevor Jones (see photograph), several of whom went on to play 1st XV rugby at Waverley Road. We also have a table from the Under 11’s with us today who the Club hope become future Colts and eventually 1st team players as the Club continues to develop its own players.
As we head rapidly towards the Xmas period there are really lots of fantastic events planned at Waverley Road for your entertainment, ranging from a ‘Morning with Santa’ through Christmas Carol Shouting to our Xmas Match Day Lunch when we entertain Wellingborough on December 21st. See the posters around the Club for further details.
Today sees another new addition to our Match Day Experience following the launch of our online Match Day Programme as we unveil our new electronic scoreboard, a huge thank you to the ‘Wednesday Gang’ for its installation, and to the sponsors who have covered its cost.
As you may or may not know, our club is run off of the financials of your support, our bar takings and our venue hire. If you know someone who is looking for a large space to host an event in 2025, let us know. As players and members of the club, you’ll receive a 10% discount off bookings as a thank you.
The next home game sees our 1st XV at home to Wellingborough on the 21st December for our Xmas Lunch, this is always a great pre-match lunch, so get yourselves booked in, and head on down to Waverley Road, KO is 2.15pm.
On behalf of everyone at the Club I can say a big thank you to all the Match Officials who will come to Kettering this year. Without you there is no game, and we greatly appreciate your efforts.
Finally, to our fans, undoubtedly some of the best in the league, whether home or away as ever: Be Loud, Be Proud and Be Respectful.
Peter May – President, Kettering Rugby Club
