As always we offer a warm welcome to our match officials today.
Clare Warren
It’s possible you won’t agree with every decision they make during the course of the game, but please remember this is Rugby Union, not Association Football – if you’re the type who enjoys berating or even abusing officials, I would respectfully suggest this is not the place for you.
Please respect the match officials.
Club Presidents before me have said that the ‘Old Players Lunch’ is one of their favourite days of the season, and I am no exception. On a day where some of my old team mates, players I have refereed and coached return for the afternoon, it makes me feel very proud of
our great Club. A warm welcome to you all , its good to see you and I must thank members of our ‘Last of the Summer Wine Gang’, John Davies, Ken Burrows and Bob Wheeler for organizing so many of you to attend today.
It is also a pleasure to welcome the East Midlands RU President Peter Franklin and Old Scouts Rugby Club, their officials led by President Keith Shurville, players and supporters to Waverley Road and I am sure most of the Kettering players in the room today will have played against our visitors at some time or other in their illustrious past.
We sit at opposite ends of the league table, Old Scouts fighting it out with Market Harborough for the runners up spot behind ‘Champions Elect’ Lutterworth while we find ourselves fighting relegation with the likes of Market Bosworth and Daventry. Last weeks result at Market Harborough was another one of those games this season that we could have won and we certainly did deserve something, if only a losing bonus point. But we have said that so many times this season and ‘we are where we are’ and we just have to keep on fighting.
Following todays game there are just two league games left for the season, Daventry away on Saturday 22nd March and Oadby Wyggestonian, our last home game on Saturday 5th April –bookings being taken for this match which also sees our sponsors being invited to lunch. We do then go into games in the Papa John’s Cup, where we host Peterborough on Saturday 12th April. On behalf of everyone at the Club can I say a big thank you to all the Match Officials who we welcome to Kettering this season. Without you there is no game, and we greatly appreciate your efforts.
Finally, to our fans, undoubtedly some of the best in the league, you have supported the boys through thick and thin this season and please, as ever: Be Loud, Be Proud and Be Respectful.
Peter May – President, Kettering Rugby Club
Abig welcome to our past players, great to see the lunch at full capacity and hopefully your voices and support will spur the boys
on to a victory today. Special mention to the Fighting Fifths who I had the privilege of touring with over many many years to some very memorable destinations, Can’t tell you anything else for obvious reasons!
February was a tough month for the 1s with some very physical training sessions, preparing for 3 league games of which we aimed for 10-12 points. We managed 10 points which will undoubtedly help our cause in preserving our league status. There are 3 League games remaining which again our aim is 10-12 points. We start today v Old Scouts who earlier in the season put a good score on us at Rushmere Road .Our confidence has grown massively since that encounter so hopefully we put in a much better performance and get something out of the day. Our 2s have again been consistently on the right side of the scoreboard which is down to the hard work and dedication of a large proportion of the squad at training
Looking forward to a catch up in the bar afterwards
