2020. Can you believe it? Ready or not, here we are. As a way to help kickstart the jump back into ho-hum work schedules and workout routines, our January issue focuses primarily on valuing the many variables of health and wellness. But rather than filling each and every page with an inspiring, potentially unaccessible story about Colorado’s greatest athletes - and yes, we certainly do feature some of the state’s most impressive athletes in this issue - we tried to tell stories that let everyone in on the ordinary aspects of any given person. [Even if they are Spartan

Ultra World Champions or literally the fastest known trail runners.] Some of us — very few of us — are professional athletes, but we all have to consciously make the decision to wake up on chilly Colorado mornings to go for a run, to read a book, to meditate, to put together a healthy lunch, and so on. Regardless of where we are, we all have a "step one" to complete in order to go where we're trying to go. Making health and wellness a priority is really about stringing together decisions that incrementally move the needle in a positive direction.

MISTER OSO MAKES SENSE. Sure, one would hope that any restaurant makes sense, but this one — from the name, to the concept, to the location — really makes sense. First there’s that moniker. Mister Oso is the little sister restaurant to LoHi’s popular Señor Bear. See what they did there with the name? Makes sense! Then there’s the concept. Señor Bear is a pan-Latin kitchen, which covers a lot of ground. Mister Oso has a tighter menu, with a strong focus on smoked elements,

Go for the Glow: HOW CAT TATMAN'S INTELLIGENT ELIXIRS IS BRINGING A NEW LAYER TO THE PURSUIT OF WELLNESS WELLNESS CAN BE A NEBULOUS WORD. It can mean different things to different people. For Cat Tatman, co-founder of Denver’s skincare and beauty brand Intelligent Elixirs, wellness encompasses both the health of the body and the happiness of the mind—two principles she works to achieve through both her brand and in her everyday life. WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND IN SKINCARE, AND WHAT LED YOU HERE TO DENVER? I began my career in beauty doing marketing and product development in San Francisco. After ten years, I had the opportunity to move to Denver to work with a beauty distributor that was also looking to develop some of its own products, and here I am today! HOW DID INTELLIGENT ELIXIRS COME TO BE? My former colleague, Mary Butler, and I co-founded Intelligent Elixirs. We’d previously worked with a company that created skincare and cosmetics for the professional marketplace—plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and aestheticians—and we recognized the need for reasonably priced, quality skincare products with clean formulations that were accessible and easy to use, but still delivered results. HOW IS SKINCARE PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT IN MAINTAINING WELLNESS? Our skin is our largest organ and it protects us from the outside world—which is a big job! So keeping it healthy is important. THE ROUTINE 5:30 am: Wake up, listen to meditations or calm music to start the day [Snacks Daily Podcast, Headspace Podcast]. 6:00 am: Gym, Platform Strength in RiNo. 7:15 am: Shower [Primally Pure Skincare]. 7:30 am: Eat a breakfast salad, usually breakfast sausage, mixed greens, pickled onions, and hummus. I usually listen to a business-related podcast, such as The Journal from the Wall Street Journal, while I eat. 8:00 am: Start the workday, usually from home for the first hour unless I have early meetings. 8:00-12:00 pm: Appointments or checking in with my team about the things we need to accomplish for the day 12:00 pm: Lunch. If I'm going home, I try to get in a 20-45 minute Peloton ride to get a good sweat in before bed. 8-10 PM: Hanging out with my wife and our french bulldog, Denali, then bed.
