In the last five years, that number has more than doubled and the needs continue to grow. In 2018, There With Care served 575 families through the life-threatening illness of their child. In 2019, There With Care is projecting to serve nearly 650 families in a medical crisis. EXISTING HOME. While the architects at Fänas Architecture love working with clients on new homes as well, this is a founding precept. It is a quality that Dolf & Sue Kahl, the King Street homeowners, appreciated when hiring Fänas' Elizabeth & Dale Smith to help with their relocating back to Boulder.

Fänas (a Gaelic term with the duel meaning of “space” & “opportunity”) worked with the Kahl’s & their realtor in finding an existing home whose location, zoning requirements, and ‘bones’ leant itself to the Kahl’s desires. They ultimately landed on the 1973, 1,500 SF King Street ranch home in an optimal location, but with a dated interior and exterior aesthetic. In hopes of creating a seamless flow from indoor to outdoor living, the design team prioritized maintaining the original character of the home while simultaneously modernizing the aesthetic and opening up the compartmentalized floorplan. This included removing and relocating the majority of the interior walls, carving out portions of the existing eight-foot ceiling to create a new spacious vaulted ceiling in the living room, adding a new large operable window wall to capture the views of the Flatirons, as well as to access a new open-air patio. Fänas also decreased the size of the original living room, allowing for the addition of a new master bathroom and increased master closet. The original fireplace was replaced with a free-standing gas fireplace that not only separates and defines the living room but is also the focal point within the space. All new finishes, fixtures, and lighting complete the interior transformation of the home.

LAURA IVERSON Interior Designer Laura Iverson grew up with many Norwegian holiday traditions, the most memorable and meaningful being that... her family owned a Christmas tree farm in Minnesota. One of the businesses was a choose-and-cut Christmas tree farm, which was started by her father the year she was born. Each year in the spring, they’d plant trees; as the holidays came, they’d share the Christmas tree farm experience with many families. Simple, fun, and unbelievably cold, she learned the best and most valuable lessons about hard work, dedication, and generosity. As a family, they focused on the true meaning of the holidays, in giving to others without the expectation of anything in return. A tradition of more than 30 years, this year will be the last with her father’s retirement. However, the tradition of a freshly cut tree during the holidays will still live on as she’ll continue this tradition with her two boys.

BEAVER CREEK Following a snowmaking expansion in Red Buffalo Park, Beaver Creek now offers more reliable earlyseason terrain, with the goal of providing more than 3,300 vertical feet of top-to-bottom skiing and riding on opening day each year. For its youngest guests, Beaver Creek has renovated the Children’s Ski School, upgrading its services to ensure a seamless experience across the board, from registration and sales to rentals and fittings. On the hill, riders will get the chance to improve their skills at Beaver Creek’s second signature learning area, Haymeadow Park. The park, designed for beginner riders of all ages, features a gondola, lift, and two magic carpets, plus a learning area with a beginner racecourse, Buffalo Bumps and Berms, and Ske-Cology environmental learning.
