We are up early baking fresh Hot Cross Buns for you! Mt Gambier Woolworths Complex Commercial St

Mt Gambier 30 James St

COMING EVENTS

IT’S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR Do you know why Bakers Delight Hot Cross Buns are the most delightful buns around? It’s because they are baked fresh each day, or because they are perfect fresh or toasted and slathered in butter. They are soft to touch and full of flavour and are made with real passion. There’s a reason Bakers Delight Hot Cross Buns remain a favourite treat for Australian families. “This year we’re telling all our secrets! We soak our fruit so that you can soak up the flavour, we use 6 secret spices for maximum flavour, and it’s

taken us well over 30 years to perfect our Hot Cross Bun recipe. This is what makes our buns true an Australian favourite, said Andrew Toogood, franchisee at Bakers Delight Mount Gambier Commercial Street East. Bakers Delight have introduced a brand new, mouth-watering flavour in 2017. The Apple & Cinnamon Hot Cross Bun is made with real fresh Pink Lady apples which is what makes all the difference! Whilst the Traditional and Choc Chip Hot Cross Buns are crowd favourites,

the new Apple & Cinnamon flavour is quickly becoming very popular for both children and adults. Andrew and Mark, franchisee at Bakers Delight Mount Gambier James Street, are both active supporters of the local community. Between the two franchisees, they support several primary and secondary schools with product donations for breakfast clubs and fundraisers. They also provide leftover product to Regional Foodbank centres. “We love to support our local community as every little bit helps, Andrew said.

Whatever you are doing this Easter long weekend, be it with family and friends or a relaxing picnic down by the lakes - be assured that Bakers Delight is open every day baking an array of fresh goodies, so hop on in! SCIENCE PRODIGY TO REPRESENT AUSTRALIA IN THE UNITED STATES Naracoorte High School Year 12 student, Tamika Nash Hahn is the only student from South Australia who has

been selected to attend the prestigious National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) International Program in Michigan, USA.

Tamika will attend the University of Michigan, one of the top universities in the United States in June this year, resulting from her initial selection and attendance at the NYSF National Program at Canberra in January. The Michigan Math and Science Scholars program will expose students to the breadth of science research and students can choose from a range of classes taught by University of Michigan professors. Tamika’s preferred class topics are:Dissecting Life: Human Anatomy and Physiology, Explorations of a Field Biologist or Hormones and Behaviour: The Secret Life of Chemical Messengers. Tamika was selected initially to attend the NYSF National Program in Canberra by the Rotary Club of Naracoorte. Each year the NYSF facilitates participation in a number of similar international programs for young Australians in Year 12. In 2017 approximately 50 NYSF students will be heading off during the year to one of these opportunities. The National Youth Science Forum has been operating for more than 30 years and aims at encouraging young people

to consider studying science related subjects in university and to build careers in the various Science, Technology and Engineering (STEM) fields. “I am excited to have the opportunity to visit world class research facilities in Michigan and converse with leading scientists,” said Tamika (pictured above). “This is an amazing opportunity and I feel very fortunate to have been chosen and I thank the Rotary Club of Naracoorte for their support”.

Eight Victorian councils launched a comprehensive public transport strategy in Ararat last week as the first step towards lobbying for improved rail and coach services to boost business, tourism, health and education in Western Victoria. The study recommends increased passenger rail and coach services between Ararat and Melbourne and return of passenger rail services to other parts of Western Victoria including Horsham and Hamilton. It also recommends extra coach services to improve connections between road and rail services across the Wimmera and South West Victoria and into South East South Australia. The study investigates how to boost tourism and economic development via increased access to public transport. The municipalities supporting the project are Horsham and Ararat Rural Cities, and Southern Grampians, Glenelg, Northern Grampians, Yarriambiack, Hindmarsh, and West Wimmera Shire Councils. Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Mary-Ann Brown, said improved access to public transport was vital in regional areas. “More than 110,000 people in Western Victoria only have limited access to passenger rail travel,” Cr Brown said. “This project aims to bring our region up to speed with the rest of the state. Connectivity is critical to achieving development in rural Victoria and equitable transport provision is a part of that.” A copy of the study can be found via the Horsham Rural City Council, Southern Grampians Shire Council, and Ararat Rural City Council websites. Alternatively, hard copies are available from all eight participating councils upon request. SECRET OP SHOP AT ROTARY MARKET

STATE HONOURS FOR TALENTED FOOTBALLERS Year 9 Naracoorte High School student Kynen Adams has been selected to represent South Australia in the U15 AFL National Diversity Championships as part of the SA Indigenous Kickstart team, and Year 8 student Weston Rata will play in the SA Multicultural All Nations team, which are both being held in Blacktown, Sydney, this week. Teams will play six matches throughout the week, before moving into finals, with the grand final for both Kickstart and All Nations being played at Blacktown International Sports Park on Thursday.

Kynen and Weston were part of the initial selection of 30 squad members as a result of thier efforts at tryouts in February this year, and from there a training camp at Warradale Park for Kynen and a one day development day at Alberton Oval for Weston scaled down the number of representatives to the existing 22-man team lists. Kynen and Weston who both favour mid field positions attended Adelaide last Friday for their official jumper presentation. “It is a great honour to be chosen for this team and to be coached

Brooklyn Thomas, (pictured above) of Millicent, discovered a new $350 R.M. Williams jacket selling for $70 while visiting the recycled fashion stall at Mount Gambier’s Rotary Market. She matched it with a chunky gold Pierre Cardin watch, also looking good as new. Known as The Walnut Shop, the stall was set up by Millicent Lioness Wilma Moore, who chose the name because the walnut resembles the prostate and prostate cancer killed her husband several years ago. With the added support of the Rotary Club of Mount Gambier, all proceeds go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Wilma has established a broad network of fashion donors, women who surrender their forgotten and outgrown treasures to make space in their wardrobes and help the cause. “Lots of people have yet to find out about us but our stall involves two cities, two genders and two service clubs,” said Ms Moore. “That’s community spirit, here on the Limestone Coast.” To donate your unwanted women’s or menswear, bring them to the Rotary Market behind Harvey Norman anytime between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays. Or just drop in for some bargains.

DONOVANS EASTER MARKET

COLLECTED STUPIDITY - PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT... By ROBBIE TANSEL not to be a dingaling. Back in the 80s these were important messages for children to hear because otherwise we would have obviously done these things. We were obviously so poor back in the 80s that eating some dirt was a real treat. These messages are not so relevant in our modern world. Children don’t need to eat dirt because their pantries and refrigerators are full of fatty treats. It doesn’t matter if they stick knives in the powerpoint because their houses have safety switches (still don’t stick knives in your powerpoints, kids). There are no longer dingalings in their neighbourhoods because they’ve all grown up and gone

into parliament. But there is still a need for public service announcements to educate children on modern dangers. With that in mind, I’ve come up with some public service advertisements I’d like to see to deal with the problems of our modern world.

Many modern problems come back to young people not having the maturity to use their smart phones intelligently. I could imagine a jingle that went something like this. “When you’re using your phone, even if you’re a hunk, no-one wants to receive a picture of your junk. You don’t want to be so quick, no-one wants to see your dick.” I’ll finish it off when I can think of something that rhymes with sex offenders register. Technology in general gets the modern youngster into trouble. I think this one would also have a useful message for kids in the ad breaks of their favourite show. “You’re on your computer, you’re having fun. You’re talking to a chick, she says she’s young. It’s actually a 60 year old guy who wants to do weird things with you hun.” The young people are classics for talking to anyone on the computer and believing everything they read on the internet is true. I read that on Wikipedia. It’s not just technology that causes all of the issues though. Kids do dumb things and get in trouble in the real world as well. I think this one would help a lot of them out. “You’ve had a beer, okay maybe six. It’s not a good idea to now go ride your BMX. Don’t drink and ride, you’re probably over 0.5.” As part of the public service announcements it would be good to help them get a social conscious and an understanding of issues affecting us all. I think this one would be good. “Politicians are idiots. I don’t need a rhyme. You just need to know that politicians are idiots. They want to frack even though they’ve got no idea what that might do in the future. Although I think they probably know there’s a chance that it might cause issues. What makes that even worse is they don’t care as long as they can generate money for themselves.” That one’s not so catchy so they’ll probably need to put some Minions in the advertisement or something. And get them to rap it. Now you’ve got something. My last idea is probably the most important one. Try this one out. “You are thirteen going on fourteen. She is twelve going on thirteen. You can still get her pregnant so put a condom on you idiot. Or more importantly go and do some stamp collecting or something. That’s a healthy hobby that’s age appropriate.” Thank me later. If you’ve got a topic you’d like me to come up with a public service announcement for, email me at robbietansel@gmail.com

DISABILITY WORKERS HONOURED The work of nine disability support workers from across the region has been recognised in the 2017 South West Disability Network Peter Lewis Award. The award, named after one of the network’s founding members, celebrates the role of direct support workers and their relationships with people with a disability, family members and carers, peers, other service providers and community networks. Mr Lewis was the CEO of Kyeema Support Services in Portland and was highly respected for his contribution to the disability sector. He passed away in 2007, aged 49 and his colleagues in the region created the Peter Lewis Award as a memorial. The 2017 winners are: JIM DUNN – MULLERTARONG Jim’s ability to relate to clients and families is exemplary. He works with those requiring high support and complex communication requirements. He has successfully helped many people with challenging behaviour increase their independence and integrate into community based activities. People trust Jim because he is a constant positive presence. He is encouraging and approachable. Jim leads by example and is an inspiration to his colleagues. BETTY DWYER – MPOWER Betty is always focused on the rights of people with disabilities. Her quiet confidence and gentle nature always bring out the best in everyone she works with. Betty’s fundamental respect for the people she works with and her desire for great outcomes is obvious in all of her interactions. For many years she has been the driving force behind the local

Down Syndrome Support Group, providing invaluable support. Betty is respected by all of her co-workers and sets a great example for them with her client-centred focus. CHERYL FRANCIS – WDEA Cheryl is the co-ordinator of the WDEA Socialisers and a support worker in WDEA’s Day Services team. She has encouraged the group’s members to -form their own committee -run their own meetings -decide on their own events. The group’s members are comfortable to participate and have their say thanks to the relaxed feel of the meetings. With many of the Socialisers’ members coming from other disability agencies, Cheryl has built a good rapport with the staff from these services to the point that they often volunteer their time at the groups’ events. DARREN LEE – COOINDA Darren is always available to help, often being called on at short notice. He treats everyone with respect and dignity. Darren is always there to support a client if they need him, but will never take away their ability to do and try the things they want to. He provides participants with the opportunity to access the community. He assists people with high behavioural support needs to engage with their families as this can be very challenging for families. Darren is always willing to lend a hand, never complains and always has a laugh, promoting a positive workplace. MICHAEL MORGAN – KARINGAL Michael has an inclusive approach with everyone he works with and every relationship is based on dignity and

respect. With his fortnightly men’s group Michael will always go out of his way to make sure the evening is everything that the participants designed it to be. In planning meetings Michael ensures the participant is listened to, feels valued and can influence their own choices. His support enabled a house-bound man, fearful of engaging with the community, to confidently get out and enjoy what life has to offer. Michael loves what he does and this is evident in the positive way he carries himself. BRONWYN PETRIE – KYEEMA SUPPORT SERVICES Bronwyn works at Kyeema Support Services’ Seawinds Nursery, a community inclusive enterprise for people with disabilities as they interact with customers, suppliers and others in the environmental sector. Bronwyn supports people to exercise choice and is respectful of individual needs. She communicates in a cheerful and uplifting manner, listens to what people have to say and helps them work to their strengths. Bronwyn has worked hard to make employees feel comfortable to raise concerns and be part of developing solutions to any issues. Always speaking in positive and encouraging terms, she has helped strengthen the supportive Seawinds workplace. She is hard-working and flexible, willing to give anything a try. MARGARET PRICE – SOUTH WEST TAFE Margaret has always acknowledged the importance and value of people with a disability and encouraged participation in the community. Margaret has the ability

to get along with almost anyone; she not only employs respect but also shows this respect with patience. She knows how to wait and encourage communication by saying less. Always promoting client choice and rights, Margaret actively educates the people with a disability that she works with about their rights and how to make complaints or raise issues and concerns. Margaret has instigated two new programs this year, supporting students with new activities that we have not been able to provide before and tailoring these activities to their specific interests. JOSHUA THORNE – OZCHILD Joshua supports young people to engage in local community activities and to build relationships through social engagement. He supports all the participants of the service through person-centred approaches, promoting opportunities and individual choices while treating them with respect and dignity. Joshua encourages communication and for individuals to make their own choices. Working across both

the Warrnambool and Portland Disability Programs, he is a professional and caring Support Worker, and is always friendly and patient with everyone. Joshua is always ready to support other staff/co-workers across the organisation, is willing to step up when needed to fill others’ shifts and is always flexible to meet participants’ needs. EMILY WALL - STAY RESIDENTIAL SERVICES Emily demonstrates a positive and empowering approach to maintaining family relationships with all the respite participants’ families. She is involved in many community based activities with the clients and is the first to put up her hand to volunteer to go with them. As a key support worker within a facility based respite service, she leads the way in positivity. Emily is the staff member with whom everyone wants to be working and her attitude permeates through the respite house. Emily developed individual client meetings to try to capture some of their goals. She does this with augmented communication systems and with a great deal of patience. Emily is a strong advocate for supporting the residents to make informed choices. She devises activities around their interests and will also go to great lengths to help them follow these interests. FISHING COMPETITION DRAWS RECORD CROWD Warm weather and sunshine drew a record crowd to Natural Resources South East’s 2017 Carpathon last month. 284 registered fishers and families enjoyed an afternoon of fishing at the Valley Lakes in the hope of landing Biggest Carp, Smallest Carp, Ugliest Carp or Most Carp with prizes on offer for the winners. Natural Resources South East sustainable communities coordinator Alison Boomsma said the event was a great opportunity to talk to people about European Carp and the damage this invasive species can inflict on waterways.“The Carpathon is held to raise awareness and encourage local people to look after our water resource,” Ms Boomsma said. “The group managed to catch 20 carp in total, which is a great result. There were also reports of some native fish caught – and let go on the day. It’s good to know our natives are managing to survive in spite of carp presence.” Previously held in October, Ms Boomsma said the change of timing for the event proved a success. “Moving the event from October to March worked well for attendance and for better chances of catching fish,” Ms Boomsma said. “Free activities such as face painting, games and a sausage sizzle kept everyone having a good time. It’s a fun day out for families to spend together, enjoying the outdoors and helping out the environment. We want to say a big thank you to everyone

who came along on the day, Spot on Fishing for donating some prizes for the free raffle, Fishcare volunteers, and Rotary Club of Mount Gambier Lakes for running the sausage sizzle.” The Carpathon is a collaborative event between Natural Resources South East and City of Mount Gambier, funded by the South East NRM Board. Award winners (pictured above from left): • Biggest Carp: Daniel Trumminello (602mm) • Most Carp: Trudie Thomson (4 fish) • Ugliest Carp: Holly Lawrence • Smallest Carp: Callen VanDenHoogen (215mm) • Most Carp: Trudie Thomson (4 fish) lifestyle1.net | 23

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR GENERATIONS IN JAZZ The number of visitors and schools set to participate in this year’s Generations in Jazz Festival has smashed all previous records. An incredible 4750 registered students and staff representing 124 schools from every Australian state and territory will be Mount Gambier-bound for the May 5-7 festival. Festival chairman James Morrsion said the substantial increase in visitors to the Limestone Coast meant that more volunteers were urgently needed to help the music festival run smoothly. “Generations in Jazz is one the region’s largest community events and one of the largest events of its type in the world. Each year we engage an exceptional team of volunteers, who play a vital role in making it happen by undertaking tasks that directly contribute to the efficient and successful delivery of the festival,” he said. “While there is a strong core of experienced personnel already on our

volunteer database, we can always use more. To assist with the allocation of volunteers and the logistics required to run the festival, this year we will be introducing a number of new additions to the types of roles with which we require assistance.”

Thanks to the wide reach of social media, some of this year’s first-time volunteers will be coming from as far away as Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Renmark to help out. It’s estimated that more than 250 volunteers will be needed each day of the festival, and their roles will range from traffic and parking management to stage management, office support, ticket booth, selling merchandise, site construction, festival photography, guest artist chaperoning and much more. In addition, a large army of helpers will be needed on site in the weeks leading up to the festival in order to prepare the site for the arrival of participants. “There is a great variety of jobs to suit people with different time commitments, and you don’t have to belong to a community group or know anything about music to join us,” James said. “It’s an opportunity to be involved in an exciting celebration and contribute to this amazing event which means so much too so many.” Greg Muller has been leading a small team of volunteer infrastructure specialists at the festival site ever since retiring from his role as the CEO of the City of Mount Gambier. During his corporate life, he was well aware of Generations in Jazz and the organisers’ desire to grow the event. “I also understood the significant workload involved in putting together both the infrastructure and the operations – when you bring over 4500

students to Mount Gambier for the weekend and international stars, it’s really significant,” he said. “Nothing as big as this is easy, and you do need a lot of people to pull together all of the different elements and aspects, so I felt that the least I could do as a retired person is to offer my help in whatever form that takes as a means of recognising the importance of the event.” Greg’s planning begins six months out from the event, as he and his team determine infrastructure requirements. The work ramps up considerably a fortnight from the opening concert. “The week of the festival is absolutely intense, but you just need to look at the big picture – the profile that it gives to Mount Gambier and surrounding districts both nationally and internationally and the range of economic benefits that flow to a lot of

businesses and community groups are just incredible,” he said. “And believe me, when you see 4500-5000 school kids from across Australia arrive at the venue in 80 big buses and 40 mini buses, that’s impressive.” And the less experienced voliunteers also rave about the opportuity to be part of such a world class event that showcases this region. Port MacDonnell cray fisherman, Andy Sneath (pictured above left), volunteered at GIJ for the first time last year. “Peter Burchell roped me in to help manage all of the buses and it was a busy but really interesting few days,” he said. “You have no idea how big and how well-managed the event is until you come down and have a look.” Anyone wishing to register as a volunteer is asked to contact the GIJ Office on (08)8726 8144 or email volunteers@generationsinjazz.com.au

COMMUNITY DIGS DEEP FOR LONGRIDERS FUNDRAISER John Bruttomesso works side by side with Adam Jennings, so when he found out Adam’s young son Patrick was battling lymphoblastic lymphona he suggested the Longriders Christian Motorcycle Club focused a major club fundraiser for the family. The two year old has started cancer treatment at the Royal Children’s Hospital, in Melbourne, and the money raised from the Dice Run, held by the club last month, would assist the family as they face this battle. “When I brought it up at the club it was unanimous that we should help,” John said. “We were all touched by the story.” It was two years ago that the club held a similar event for Luke Popovich, who unfortunately lost his battle with cancer prior to the dice run held in his honour. “But we were able to give the $7500 to his mother to help her with expenses,” John said. This time, the club handed $11,477 to Adam, wife Bridget and their family. “We want to thank everyone that supported & contributed to this event in any way all those that helped make the day a successful one,” John said. Anyone interested in joining the Longriders or just becoming part of the social club should contact John on 0419 840 140 Above - Adam Jennings with Mount Gambier based members of the Longriders Christian Motorcycle Club. HOW YOUR HOME CAN BE MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY You can try and do your bit - big or small - towards creating a healthier, greener home. Go Glass: If you have a shower curtain, ensure it is made of a natural hemp or natural fibre as plastic curtains and liners are non-recyclable. If you can afford it, a glass door is the best way to go. Wash Water Wise: If you have a

dishwasher, make sure it’s full before you run through a load of dishes. And instead of rinsing them before hand under a tap, dip them all into the same shallow sink of water to loosen any food. Smell The Soy: When perfuming your home, go with soy candles as soy is entirely renewable while global reserves of oil shrink and paraffin prices rise. Furthermore, paraffin candles release chemical pollutants which can be incredibly harmful to your health! Don’t discount Louvres: If you’re building or renovating your home, consider louvre windows. They’re so timeless and allow you to dial up or down your daylight without the need for electricity. They also offer excellent ventilation for bathrooms and kitchens (no fan needed) and save the need for costly curtains. Overhaul your Bed: It’s an easy assumption to make that cotton is a natural choice for bedding. But while it is natural, cotton is not the most sustainable crop on the planet, and unless it’s organic, is full of toxic chemicals. There are some fantastic fabrics like bamboo and linen,. DIY upcycling: If you’re bored of your old kitchen stools, or you’re sprucing up your living space, you don’t have to throw things out, just upcycle the old ones with a lick of paint or recovering. Pinterest is a great source of affordable ideas. Indoor plants: You should aim to have two plants flowering all year around, with herbs, like basil, a great option, as that cuts down the need for chemical insecticides - it is a natural way of eliminating the bad bugs. Clean Cleaner: Avoid the cleaning aisle at your local supermarket and shop online with ENJO - a powerhouse Australian company that offers natural, environmentally friendly and organic cleaning products in bundles that reduce your spend and also instill confidence in creating a healthier, chemical-free home.

MAKE A STATEMENT

TEMPT THE TASTEBUDS

It can sometimes only take one item to turn a room into te space you’ve always dreamed and in 2017 that item is the statement armchair. Not only is an armchair a practical and efficient space-saver, it can also be the feature piece of any space, with no shortage of bold designs currently in the market. And when it comes to armchairs, everything old is new again with retro sixties and seventies designs dominating. You can then complement your statement armchair with other retro inspired pieces, with drink trolleys and patterend wallpaper all making a comeback in the interior design world. Bold colours and patterns are what statement pieces are all about and you can update a tired room or design a new room around these types of pieces.

ROSES GALORE AT GARDENARIUM With the wonderful downpours of rain in the past few weeks it seems autumn is here with the nights certainly getting a little crisper - a great time for planting. April is going to be an interesting month with Easter, and Anzac Day holidays giving us extra time to get out in to the garden. Autumn is such a great time to plant, as the soil warmth is there but we have the guarantee of cooler weather and, of course, rain. This year from April 11 to 16, we will be having a

massive half price rose sale to make way for the new seasons roses that will be out of the paddock soon. We are clearing all of the roses in our rose growing area to make room for a further expansion to our Advanced Trees section and this can only mean one thing - bargains all round. Yes, all of our roses, including bush, standard, weeping, groundcovers, David Austins and Delbards, will be up to 50% off, with $5 and $10 bush roses and standard roses to clear. Planting roses now whilst the ground is warm will get some amazing growth but the main factor is that the plants will be well settled in for next spring. With the Rose Weekend we will also be showcasing the 2017 new release rose varieties (see facing page) that can be ordered over the weekend for pick up or delivery from our rose nursery in June/ July. The biggest stars of the new releases would have to be Always Remember – chosen by Leukaemia Foundation for their Light The Night awareness campaign for people with blood cancer, with part proceeds to help assist the vital work in finding a cure for blood cancer, followed by Mandalay Rose, a rich red hybrid tea and looking to be sold out early along with Butterfly Kisses, a fundraising rose for Variety The Children’s Charity, which

is a stunning soft pink bloom on a compact bush $5 from the sale of each rose goes to Variety. The new series of Drift ground cover roses is looking to be a popular range with the limited stocks we have sold of potted roses so far, we are expanding this prolific flowering range to include all of the colours in the Drift series in Patio Standards (see website for details) and they come in pink, ivory, yellow, peach, red and white and flower for well over nine months of the year, making these an outstanding addition to any garden or in pots. It is important to order early as our website (www.limestonecoastroses.com. au) has been receiving online orders since last November for interstate and local

orders and many varieties are already close to be sold out. We Will Remember Them – a gift from the people of France to thank Australia for its efforts in historic conflicts with proceeds from the sale will go to maintaining the Australian War Graves at Villers Brettoneux - was one of last year’s new releases but due to its massive popularity many missed out. We have a few available now for sale or again you can order for bare rooted stock in winter. A whole swag of the current 2016 new release rose varieties will also be on show and for sale in the long weekend clearance, including the very popular Twilight Zone, which is a rich purple bloom with intense fragrance and masses

of blooms, Pink Moon, sister to Blue Moon was also very popular and sold out early. Nowadays more and more of our roses raise money for charity and these will be on display this weekend also. This weekend we will also be showcasing the 2017 upcoming new release varieties which need to be ordered this weekend to avoid missing out, especially the Always Remember and Butterfly Kisses. Visit www.limestonecoastroses.com. au to see all the new roses and place your order so you don’t miss out. Nelson Monfort and Smiling Eyes (pictured on opposite page) are also grabbing a lot of attention, so be sure to get your orders in for these varieties as soon as possible. Limestone Coast Roses at Gardenarium will also be having a massive Rose clearance on all Standard roses from a crazy $18.35 each, less than half price, with Bush Roses from $9.95 so bring your trailer, truck, horse float whatever you like and grab a bargain. All of the advanced roses, climbing roses , weeping standard rose in our Limestone Coast Roses section of the business will be reduced to clear with up to 50% off and more on clearance lines. The Pot Shop part of the business has been busy receiving container loads of glazed, terracotta, sandstone and concrete pots over the past few months and we also need to clear some of those to make more room for more pots, trees and outdoor furniture. Some of the terracotta which is all now pre sealed, so it doesn’t dry out like the old terracotta, has been so drastically reduced and with the strength of the Aussie dollar is now cheaper than buying plastic pots. So, come in and browse through the extensive range and pick up a bargain. Much of our giftware, wall art and fountains will also be on clearance, as well as birdhouses, dovecotes etc. as we make room in our new gift shop area, which is bursting at the seams, so an ideal time to pick up an early Mother’s day bargain. We will be Open Easter Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 5pm, closed Good Friday with the half price rose sale ending Easter Sunday at 5pm, so may be a good alternative to chocolate with a gift of a Rose instead. INAUGURAL LIMESTONE COAST PLANT AND TRADE FAIR AT ST MARY’S Established in 1937, the Mulligan family have created a magnificent property with the garden taking centre stage. And that time honoured garden, on the V A A Lane grounds of St Mary’s Wines is to be the setting for the inaugural Limestone Coast Plant and Trade Fair on April 29 and 30, from 10am until 4pm. A delightful country garden, St Mary’s with its hundreds of roses and dry stone walls is a garden for all seasons, and in Autumn it will be sure to impress and create a stunning setting for the diverse exhibitors. A range of talented artists, trades and specialist growers with everything from bulbs to trees, natives to exotics, garden arts, trades, food stalls, wine tasting, refreshment and children’s activity area will make St Mary’s a must visit destination for all garden lovers and families that last weekend in April. Hundreds of roses, bulbs, iris, hardy perennials, trees and shrubs surround the classic homestead and buildings and over the years, plants and bulbs suitable for this region’s soils and climate have been incorporated into the garden design, adding colour and texture all year round. Sandstone rock and plate from the quarry at St Mary’s has been used for dry stone walling, pathways, and ornaments, as well as structures such as ramps, plinths, platforms and the three tree rings in the front paddock. A passion for fresh seasonal produce has led to the creation of a kitchen garden with raised beds for strawberries and asparagus. Arches for apples and tomatoes provide a decorative feature in the garden, with the hot house used for seedlings and propagating. Entry to the Limestone Coast Plant and Trade Fair if $8 for adults and the open day’s nominated charity is the Cancer Council SA. Bookings are not essential and buses are welcome. The property boasts wheelchair access, is child and pram friendly, as well as offering picnic tables and chairs on site. Food and beverages will be available with toilets on site as well, but there is a no pet policy.

NEW COACH ADDED TO GOLF PROGRAM Golf South East has welcomed Gavin Fontaine to the Golf SE coaching team. Based at North Adelaide Golf Course, Gavin will be visiting the region over the next few months to join the SE Futures Junior Golf program, sharing his unique skills, not only with our juniors but senior players as well. As the Futures program is conducted at various venues across the region, Gavin, who is originally from Western Australia, will have the opportunity to visit, for the first time, many South East towns and golf courses. In the past 27 years of teaching, Gavin has gained a wide range of experience through playing with top golfers, learning from the best teachers and playing courses all over the world. During those years, he participated in numerous golf seminars to improve his skills as a teacher, focusing more and more on the mental side of the game. Gavin is an advanced golf coach and has been a qualified Australian PGA member since 1990, working in Austria and Germany for 15 years.
