FANTASY PIG OF THE WEEK

u Not to be outdone by his brother Andrew, Angus Brayshaw pumped out the highest score of the round with a super impressive 156, which included 20 marks … ridiculous! The pig of the week, however, is going to the more relevant superstar Sam Docherty. What the ‘Doc’ is doing is not only inspirational, but career-best stuff, and that’s saying something! He stood up when it counted to give the Blues their third successive victory, all while scoring 138, which takes his average to 113. We need to get him in ASAP.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS

u The Blues skipper did it again. Patrick Cripps took his average to an impressive 124 for the year on the back of his 134 from 31 disposals, 11 tackles and a goal. If you don’t have him yet, it may be worth rectifying. Popular ruck replacement and forward DPP Tim English also had his owners licking their lips after another dominant display as the sole ruck for the Dogs, notching up a lazy 138. He is no longer cheap, but his role and ability around the ground means he remains a viable option.

CASH COWS OF THE WEEK

MICHAEL BARLOW MEDAL VOTES

The best player with a starting price under $300K will be awarded the MICHAEL BARLOW MEDAL as the best cash cow of the year. The votes for round three were:

5NICK DAICOS

COLL, MID – 89 u The Pies ball magnet was at it again, collecting 26 possessions and snagging a goal for a piglet-high 89.

4TRISTAN XERRI

NM, FWD – 79 u The ‘X Man’ continues to shoulder most of the Roos’ ruck responsibilities and his scoring again reflected that with 25 hit-outs and 79 points.

3NIC MARTIN

ESS, FWD – 71 u Followed up his week on the sidelines with 71 points from 20 possessions and eight marks. Very handy considering his incredibly low breakeven.

2DENVER GRAINGER-BARRAS

HAW, DEF – 70 u The Hawks defender had an impressive outing with six marks and 18 possessions for his 70.

1JASON HORNE-FRANCIS

NM, MID – 67 u Another solid game for the No. 1 pick, who keeps his value moving in the right direction.

BUY HOLD SELL

BRAYDON PREUSS

GWS GIANTS

RUC, $367,000

u We finally got to see the journeyman make his Giants debut and he didn’t disappoint. He didn’t miss a beat, recording 34 hit-outs and 16 possessions for 108 points. It leaves him with a BE of just seven, making him one of the game’s best cash cows.

SAM DOCHERTY

CARLTON

DEF, $855,000

u The former skipper was at it again last week, continuing career-best form. He had 33 touches and took 13 marks on his way to 138. It gives him a BE of 83 ahead of this week, leaving another price rise on the cards.

GEORGE HEWETT

CARLTON

DEF/MID, $633,000

u If you ignored our advice and didn’t start your season with ‘Super Hewey’, it’s time to swallow your pride and bring him in. He had a season-high 119 last week to increase his average to 98 and leave him with a BE of just 36.

ALSO CONSIDER:

Tim English, Reef McInnes, Jake Stein.

WARNIE

WARNE DAWGS ROUND 2 – 2048 PTS

u It’s all about structure and cash generation at the moment. It may cost you a couple of points now, but the green dots will allow you to make genuine upgrades very soon.

ROUND 2 – 2112 PTS

u If you are in a ‘luxury trade’ position this week, you haven’t missed the boat removing Max Gawn or Brodie Grundy for Preuss. The money could be used to remove an on-ground rookie.

ROUND 2 – 2096 PTS

u My captain choices had an absolute clanger last week! Frustrating I know, but I can’t kick the ball for them. Rest easy, I have some rippers this week to pay you back.

JACK STEELE

ST KILDA

MID, $962,000

u Never has a player been so scrutinised for three straight hundreds, but that’s what happens when you start the season over $1m. This week he plays the Hawks, who have given up plenty of points to opposition midfielders.

JACK MACRAE

WESTERN BULLDOGS

MID, $989,000

u Was tracking towards another triple-figure score against the Swans before finding himself on the wing in the last quarter, which dried up his scoring. Has a BE of 152, but will return to the middle this week and score accordingly.

TOUK MILLER

GOLD COAST SUNS

MID, $981,000

u In a similar boat to Steele, there was an outpouring of frustration towards Miller, who was also north of $1m before the start of the season. The former tagger copped a dose of his old medicine, being restricted to 68.

ALSO CONSIDER:

Jack Crisp, Lachie Neale, Christian Petracca.

ROY

DESTROY

ROWAN MARSHALL

ST KILDA

RUC, $729,000

u Despite a big fan of the Saint, it’s time to bail, given there are fantastic options at and below his price. He can’t produce the scoring required to be a top ruck playing alongside Paddy Ryder, as we saw last week. He has a BE of 118 and Braydon Preuss provides a nice cash grab.

JACK HAYES

ST KILDA

FWD/RUC, $367,000

u Has made an outstanding start to his career, averaging an impressive 72 in his first three games. Despite a BE of just 10, he was also well down due to the return of Paddy Ryder, with a season-low 45.

SAM DRAPER

ESSENDON

RUC, $499,000

u If taking a punt on Draper was your way of avoiding the ‘set and forget’ strategy, fix it while you can. The big Bomber reached just 28 last week with one kick, one handball, one mark and one free against.

Connor Rozee, Matt Rowell, Josh Gibcus.
