A

fter a few postponements since 2020, our 4th Celebrate Conference finally went ahead on Tuesday 7th June at the Dedes Waterfront venue, The Deckhouse.

It was a day of inspiration and connection, with so many wonderfully creative vendors coming together from all around Australia to network, learn and be uplifted – so they could RISE up after the challenges of the last two years. It was a true one-of-a-kind event for our industry!

We had amazing guest speakers, a stunning setup and gorgeous weather for everyone to enjoy. Many have already told me: “I can’t wait until the next one!”.

A huge thanks to the vendors who sponsored this event, and the team of vendors who brought the décor and room to life, and those who generously contributed to the gift boxes. A special mention must go to Mary Ronis Events for the styling on the day.

My inspiration was drawn from the venue that hosted this amazing party: A Pamper House for little girls to enjoy with their friends. What better way than to add some sweets and have a Pamper Me Sweet party!

We utilised our space and played on all things pink with a modern twist on our favourite lollies from the 1950s, conversation candy hearts.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY SHOOT?

I really wanted to create a display that would give the children a full carnival experience: the amazement, the excitement, and the fun. As a child, I was always in awe of the colours, the rides, the entertainers and the pure joy when a carnival came to town. So, we recreated it with pastels and a hint of a vintage vibe.

WHAT WERE SOME OF THE UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS SETUP?

A custom backdrop featuring a beautifully designed vintage carousel in watercolour was made, along with an original vintage carousel horse, restored and hand painted. We also revived a very old ferris wheel prop, found in an old shoe store.

Some of our latest props, including our new kids tables and gelato kids chairs are featured, along with our Geo giraffe “Geri”, and our new podium plinth - which was wrapped in carnival themed pastel patterns.

Beautifully designed, hand crafted paperie and partyware specifically matched our theme for the tables. Another gorgeous addition were stunning carousel shaped cookies, which sparkled and glistened in the light.

There were pastel balloons in double stuffed colours, and an absolute masterpiece of a cake: a three-tiered dream featuring a carousel on top. Incredibly detailed acrylic signage rounded out the theme and brought it all to life. Finally, the children had an asbolute ball playing games with their ballerina entertainer, and following lunch they all enjoyed plaster painting and themed canvases, which were a huge hit on the day. ➤

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY SHOOT?

Sam is currently dino obsessed along with many other 5 year olds, but I wanted to do something a little more interactive and different from the usual.

I loved the idea of having it more activity focused, so we decided to host a dino dig activity for the kids where they could use miniature tools to dig into the sand and find some dinosaur fossils - excavating them with brushes and magnifying glasses. From there, the theme was formed with dinosaur skulls and bones, using mostly soft browns and creams with just a hint of greenery. Instead of greenery from a jungle setting, we went with greenery from the type of cacti that are in the dessert where most fossils are dug up.

WHAT WERE SOME OF THE UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS SETUP?

Our main focus was on the kids activities for this party, but what really makes the space pop is our layered backdrop setting. With gravity defying cake, balloons and dried palms, its a standout. Our kids picnic table with overhead arbour, hanging florals and tassel mobiles created a desert vibe. The activity area was it’s own space, with a separate backdrop feature showcasing the kids excavation and take home hot chocolate party favours, as well as the latte ballpit, activity table with dino dig kits and our jeep: highlighted with it’s own balloon feature and potted florals!

SHARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR THOSE PLANNING CHILDREN’S PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS

Think about the guest of honour. Lots of kids may want a particular theme that you don’t really want to do, like a favourite TV character. Don’t feel obliged to recreate this, but try to keep in mind what your child would love. If they are fans of Bluey you may want to put a twist on it and create a puppy theme. Or if your child is like mine, and loving Camp Cretaceous or Jurassic Park, you can do a Dino Dig. Get creative with your ideas, and don’t limit yourself for inspiration.

Your child will love whatever you create.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY SHOOT?

This year the inspiration came from an idea I had been planning for my daughter Selena’s 9th birthday.

I wanted to create a walk-in magazine booth prop using a theme to match this. My daughter loves the idea of Tiffany & Co and so we thought Selena & Co VOGUE as the concept for this walk-in magazine prop. The aim was to keep it fresh and exciting with a touch of elegance and still have it suit the audience.

WHAT WERE SOME OF THE UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS SETUP?

I think the walk-in magazine booth speaks for itself!

Having this concept for an actual magazine photo shoot was amazingly unique. This whole setup had so many gorgeous details from props and décor but the walk-in magazine booth prop alone gave the whole room Tiffany & Co vibes which was truly something else! The whole front of the prop is acrylic glass – top to bottom – making it easy to apply decals and style accordingly for any concept or occasion.

When styling a child’s party, always make the theme or concept align with what the child is passionate about.

Focusing on the details that matter to them most is what they will be sure to remember! Before you reach out to a stylist, have your details ready such as a simple mood board with inspo pics, color palettes and décor ideas, and be open with your budget. The clearer the communication, the smoother the planning process.

I wanted to find something that both my 1 year old and 4 year old boys loved for their joint birthday party. They love cars, and so this popular ‘Growing Up too Fast’ theme fit perfectly. The teal and mustard colours we used are bold and on trend, setting the tone for the entire event.

WHAT WERE SOME OF THE UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS SETUP?

The custom road arch was the perfect backdrop: a clever take on the hollow arch that is growing in popularity. The picnic setup truly set the theme with beautiful stationery and paperie, and was elevated again with extra details including the acrylic drink stirrers and fabric party bags with checkered ribbons.

Investing in children’s entertainment is always worth it! We had a Race Car Driver Balloon Twister and soft play equipment to keep them busy during the event.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY SHOOT?

The inspiration for this photoshoot was my daughters love for Princesses, and all things pretty. However, we wanted to add our own unique spin to this somewhat traditional theme so we incorporated a dash of hip hop.

WHAT WERE SOME OF THE UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS SETUP?

We worked alongside some amazing vendors to bring this event to life. There’s no doubt that the beautiful princess castle and character illustrated by Eve&Co was one of the first stand out elements of this setup.

Another unique feature was our hip hop song lyrics used in our signage and decals around the room.

Event Signs Melbourne designed placemats for our kids table which also tied in with the custom favour boxes that were made by Summer Print & Party.

So many more features to mention, such as paint your own cookies, a real-life princess entertainer and softplay to keep the kids busy all added to the magical atmosphere and fun at this event.

SHARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR THOSE PLANNING CHILDREN’S PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS.

My top tips for those planning children’s parties and celebrations would be to firstly get your child involved in picking a theme. Listen to them and incorporate their ideas into the overall concept, then watch the joy on their little faces when they arrive to the party.

Secondly, outsource! Engage an event stylist to take care of as many of the elements as possible.

Planning a party and juggling children at the same time is stressful. Décor is of course important, but don’t forget the fun for the kids: for example softplay, entertainers, bouncy castle and more.

Lastly, I always recommend professional photography to all my clients. This is one expense that people rarely regret as its almost impossible for you as the host to take any photos on the day. You will love looking back at these photos and reliving the party, plus a photographer will capture those fine details and moments that you would have otherwise missed while you’re attending the event.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE STYLING FOR THIS PARTY SHOOT?

My daughter’s (and most tweens’) obsession with all things bubble tea led us to the concept for this party.

We kept it cute and light-hearted, well suited for a 10 year old. We had the perfect venue in Le Petite Kids Tea & Spa, so put our own spin on the original tea party, inviting everyone to ‘Pop’ on over and Par-tea – for a fun-filled bubble tea making celebration.

WHAT WERE SOME OF THE UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS SETUP?

The backdrop and cake setup became a giant boba tea: a clear round plinth filled with tiny black ‘pearl’ balloons, and a super-cute boba themed cake on top.

We also had a setup of four glass drink dispensers, filled with a choice of base drinks needed to make bubble tea. The party table included everything required for boba tea: clear cups, heart-shaped boba straws, and three different types of pearl toppings.

Lastly, the kids played a few rounds of Boba Bingo, with playing cards that matched our theme.
