We love to see trends as they unfold, and nostalgia seems to be calling as wallpapers with the handcrafted look continue to pull us into comfortable spaces. Stripes are also set to define our décor in 2025 with crisp smart edges tailoring our homes.

With the world seeing so many challenges, something as simple as a wallpaper can certainly lift our spirits.

Cheery designs and humour can bring smiles to our faces when all can seem dark.

We finished 2024 on a high note with our parent company Brewers being awarded the Royal Warrant

by His Majesty The King. It’s an honour we are all immensely proud of.

The traditional methods used by Farrow & Ball create the same texture, depth and feel of the original papers. Depending on the pattern, the new wallpapers are made using roller block or flatbed printing and real Farrow & Ball paint. Perhaps the most striking pattern in the collection is Purnon, named after the château itself. Featuring an elaborate design with classical elements that symbolize peace, abundance and prosperity, this paper is sure to make a statement. In contrast, the unique Adelaïde is a floral pattern with a far more abstract feel. Bigger and bolder than the original inspiration, it still has a delicate charm. It also happens to be Charlotte’s favourite: ‘I absolutely love Adelaïde because when we first found the pattern, it was very traditional. We’ve since reimagined it into a bigger, bolder scale and it’s become beautifully contemporary. The transformation has been almost magical.’

The dogs in this design are Beatrix Potter’s doodled portraits of her beloved working collies, Nip and Lassie. 1838 Wallcoverings announces the launch of its third collection with the V&A (Victoria and Albert Museum, London).

Once again working closely with the museum’s licensing team to select items from the V&A’s archives, the collection features a range of influences that date as far back as the 1700s, each with its own intriguing narrative to tell. Inspired by rich, decorative carpets, silk, cotton and chintz fabrics, hand painted original wallpapers from China, and a silk kimono, each of these original references has been carefully and sympathetically adapted by 1838 Wallcoverings to create new wallpaper designs in enduring contemporary colourways, which are relevant for the interiors of today.

1838 Wallcoverings’ MD James Watson says of the collection ‘The vast V&A archive continues to be a brilliant source of rich inspiration for patterns, details and colours, which we feel very privileged to use, and we are delighted to bring this third instalment of designs together as a cohesive collection. Stratus – a wonderfully contemporary interpretation of a captivating silk pattern by JD Cornuaud from the 1860s. It shows gently view of moving clouds drifting across a sky, or perhaps simple random rows of corals.

Palmette – originally created as a carpet design by George W Kingman in about 1870 – the design features vibrant tropical and lush greenery creating a wonderfully dynamic wallpaper pattern for lovers of the maximalism style.

I like the trend for dark wallpapers. Is there anything I need to know?

How to have the best results when hanging dark wallpapers.

Occasionally you will purchase a roll which has had the ends pre coloured. This is done to reduce the visible white lines that can be experienced down the butt join on dark coloured wallpaper when hung.

If this has not been done, we would suggest the following options: • Chalk the ends of the roll – both ends – before the paper is unrolled. Lightly rub over the ends of the roll a pastel chalk which is a shade lighter than the dark colour of your paper until it is evenly covered. Chalking the paper edges will hide the white edge of the paper which is not printed and will hide any white seams at the joins. uitable pastel chalk can be purchased from S art suppliers.

•A lso it can be worth painting the wall the background colour of your paper. Perhaps just where the seams will occur as again this will help if there is a slight shrinkage of the paper.
