Building update
The external work is due to fi nish in November. Recent works uncovered a 125-year-old bell in the tower which is still in perfect working order; the tower has now been totally renovated and there are plans to ring the bell on special occasions. Other works include the lowering and strengthening of the perimeter wall; the repair and repainting of all windows (there are a lot), the creation of an outdoor area, complete with new wall and gated access. Finally, the Lounge has been completely overhauled with the removal of the low ceiling (opening up the 125-year-old beams again), the installation of a new kitchen, new lights, curtains and re-painted with a connection to the new outdoor area.

Our next projects will be the refurbishment of the two remaining rooms, the Studio and Melbourne Room and a review of our heating systems with a view to replacing them to become more energy effi cient and less reliant on the traditional sources of power.
Lease
Once the building works are complete, a 30-year lease on the building and whole site is due to be signed in January 2023. This will secure the Assembly Rooms for Melbourne and ensure its future use for the whole community.
Big Village Small Town
The new musical event with its patron, national broadcaster Mark Radcliffe, is set for the end of May 2023. We have been signing up venues in Melbourne as well as performers and can promise some musical surprises and quality entertainment. With 8 venues signed up already it promises to be a great weekend which will attract many visitors.
Also signed up are local promoters Village Folk who will be co-promoting the concerts at the Melbourne Assembly Rooms and East Midlands Airport who have provided sponsorship via their community fund.
Draught beer
We have reached an agreement with local brewer Tollgate to provide our own draught beer ‘Mars Pale Ale’.

2023 Concerts
Although we aren’t at the end of the year yet, most top-quality performers and shows work 12 months in advance and we have signed up some great tribute bands for 2023 including Simply Madness, the Faux Seasons, ‘Robbie’, The Searchers / Hollies Experience, Glam 45, Steely Dan, We Are Monsters, the Bar Steward Sons of Val Doonican and Blackbeard’s Tea Party. We also have lined up Comedy with George Egg, Alfred Hitchcock’s silent fi lm thriller ‘The Lodger’ with live music and live theatre with ‘Three Acres and a Cow’. That’s just up to June!
