Melbourne Area Derby u3a is open to anyone no longer in full-time employment. Its members run more than 20 local interest groups offering a range of activities from art appreciation to walking. This month’s all-member meeting at Melbourne Assembly Rooms, at 2.30pm on Thursday 7th July, is all about Home Energy. What can we do in our homes to save energy? Me & Dee – Charity Sports Event. Local charity Me & Dee arrange holidays for both adults and children facing a short and uncertain future together. Rotary Club of Derby Daybreak
This small friendly group meet every Thursday morning between 7.15am and 8.30am at the new location of Little Eaton Village Hall, DE21 5EA. They are looking for more members to join them in giving back to our community, raising funds and helping a range of charities and schools. Wellbeing Cafe
Treetops Hospice run their Wellbeing Café every Thursday from 10am to 3pm at the Hospice on Derby Road, Risley, DE72 3SS. The cafe is open to anyone affected by a life limiting illness or bereavement, and their family members, carers and friends who are looking for some help. One-to-one chats with experienced staff and volunteers are available in a relaxed environment. Hot drinks, savoury snacks and cakes are available. Summer Reading Challenge
Derbyshire Libraries have launched this year’s summer reading challenge. In partnership with the Science Museum Group they aim to celebrate the role of the imagination in both reading and the sciences. Children aged 4 to 12 can take part from Saturday 2nd July through to Saturday 10th September. The children are challenged to read six books of their choice to be rewarded with special incentives, including a certifi cate and medal when they complete the challenge. South Derbyshire Volunteer Force
Volunteers are needed to help at Melbourne Gallery and shop. The job involves dealing with customers, including taking payments, providing information and using payment systems. Usually there are two helpers on duty for every half day shift. The Gallery is open 4 days a week (Wednesday to Saturday) and they are looking for helpers to work on a rota basis.
