History Club

This month our update comes from Miss Woolnough and the History Club. In January, members of our History Club took part in a competition to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day. To honour the life and legacy of Leon Greenman, the UCL Centre for Holocaust Education launched a competition inviting students to refl ect on the power of his story. 13 students took part in 2 after-school history/art sessions in order to create their individual pieces of work, inspired by a testimony from Leon about the day Nazi collaborators came for him and his family. 2 of our talented students were chosen to have their artwork featured, and we couldn’t be prouder.

From UCL: “we were really impressed with the many great entries from Ibstock Community College. We are currently putting together an article that features some of the highly commended entries for our website, and we would love to credit the young artists”.

Through this competition, we have raised awareness of the Holocaust, and how one day can really change the course of your life. At Ibstock Community College we strongly believe that Holocaust education is incredibly important to young people. It encourages students to promote social justice, human rights, and genocide awareness. It enables students to become more empathetic and refl ect on the dangers of remaining silent to the oppression of others. We plan to have the artwork displayed in school for years to come. The Palace Community Centre is available to hire for regular events and commercial hire, as well as private parties and celebrations. The Palace has a fully licensed bar, kitchen facilities, large free car park opposite venue, good disability access and facilities, full PA and lighting system, large screen and wifi , making it an ideal venue for numerous types of events.
