Do you have any bikes taking up space in your garage which are no longer used or needed? If so, why not consider donating them to a fantastic local scheme which raises money for a number of charities through ‘recycling’ old bikes? Back in 2018 the scheme was set up by Paul Wilcox, now known as ‘Pushbike Paul’. To date an amazing amount of over £100,000 has been raised. The funds have mainly been used to support Treetops Hospice who provide nursing care and emotional support for anyone affected by a life-limiting illness or bereavement in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Funds have also been donated to the Rotary Club of Long Eaton, who support many charities including Air Ambulance, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Foodbanks, Rainbows Hospice, Forever Stars and many more. Paul was rewarded for his efforts with a Derbyshire Beacon of Hope Award last year and continues to work tirelessly on renovating donated bikes for the scheme. If you have a bike to donate please email Paul on pushbikepaul4treetops@gmail.com or recycle4rotary@gmail.com. He will arrange for the bikes to be collected and his team of volunteers will then repair them where possible or use any parts for future renovations. Any specialist bikes will be sold on Ebay to maximise any revenue.
