SADDLING UP FOR SOFIA

Vinnie Raulinaitis from Bromley is gearing up for an epic cycling challenge, inspired by the bravery of his little girl Sofia who was diagnosed with leukaemia when she was just three years old. After seeing her battle through gruelling treatment, Vinnie decided to get fit, lose five stone and taking up cycling. Now Vinnie is about to embark on a mammoth challenge which he hopes will raise £20,000 For Cancer Research UK. On September 7 he will cycle 2,000km (1,250 miles) from London to his home town of Vilnius in Lithuania. Vinnie, a former chef who owns plant-based nutrition company Endurance X Nature and runs the Cycle 42 bike shop and cafe in Orpington along with his business partner Charlie Clift, said: “I want to help make sure more families have the positive outcome mine has, so I have set myself the target of raising £20,000 by cycling 400km (248 miles) a day and spending up to 18hrs a day in the saddle. It’ll be an incredibly tough challenge both physically and mentally so I will need all the support I can get, although I won’t actually have a support team with me. My cycling jersey has on the back: ‘7 countries, 2000k, 1 idiot’, which just about sums it up! “I want people to know that 80p in the pound of money raised for Cancer Research UK is spent on research, and that is really important. It shows that doing things like this really can make a difference.” For details about the challenge and to sponsor Vinnie visit: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/unite/vinnies-2000km-dash-to-vilnius
