Mayor's Voice
community MAYOR’S VOICE
By the time you read this we’ll have just had our fundraising event for the people of Ukraine. I’ve joined together with all the borough’s Rotary Clubs to bring together this special event which included dinner, entertainment and a variety show and it’s hoped that we raise as much money for this worthwhile cause as possible.

As usual it feels like my feet haven’t touched the floor these last few weeks with plenty of businesses, individuals and charities requesting appointments. And that’s something that I really love about being your Mayor – the chance to meet such a wide variety of people and find out what exciting things have been taking place in our wonderful borough.
To highlight just a few, I visited the Community Funday at St Barnabas Church in Rushet Road, Orpington. Escorting me around the numerous exhibits and stalls was Rev Neil Coleman and The Boys’ Brigade band put on a great marching music display – very enjoyable!
It was an absolute pleasure to host a Civic Reception in the grounds of the Palace of Bromley to thank voluntary workers in the borough. Drinks and a buffet lunch were served, and guests were entertained by the likes of my Mayoral Attendant and Macebearer, Neill Tully, (AKA ‘Quite Frankly’) as well as Charlie Gray and the Rock Choir. It’s incredibly important that we acknowledge and celebrate the work that the borough’s volunteers do – they give up their time for the benefit of the wider community and we’re blessed to have a wealth of them in our borough.
Meanwhile, the Bridge House in Penge hosted a number of events including the closing of the 50th Annual Penge Festival and the fifth birthday of Love Da Beat Radio. Incidentally, I was also interviewed on the radio station by Jackie Groundsell, who has a weekly show. We spent a good couple of hours chatting away but it only felt like five minutes! The Biggin Hill Summer Annual Carnival also went down a storm – we enjoyed music, entertainment and I managed to speak with a number of the stallholders on the day.
Finally, but by no means least, I spent a fabulous afternoon in the garden of Mrs Freda Davis BEM. Freda opened up her garden to the public to host an afternoon of music (she has done so for the last 20 years), in order to raise money for a children's charity. This year she raised £2,000 (overall she has raised £80,000), and was awarded her British Empire Medal for her charity work. It was a wonderful day and we were lucky the sun continued to shine, making it a perfect day.
Until next month be #ProudOfBromley,
Cllr Hannah Gray Mayor of Bromley (2022-23)
