risten of Kristen Mittlestedt Photography was inspired by the story of Sleeping Beauty. She pictured a bride laying on a bed of flowers complete with all the romantic feels you would expect in a fairytale wedding. The result? A shoot filled with springtime vibes, an abundance of greenery, burgundy tones and a dreamy couple that will take your breath away. The setting, an authentic, 1800s cabin, wasn’t short on charm. While a cozy fireplace, wooden farm table and vineyard chairs served to add rustic warmth, hints of gold, geometric pieces and terrariums brought just the right amount of modern to the décor. Moodiness was achieved using stunning florals such as gray/lavender Amnesia roses, deep plum-colored ranunculus and Scabiosa. And besides the gorgeously timeless look of the bride, the shoot featured other showstoppers, including the beautiful, stark black cake. Its design featured lovely bas-relief flowers and flecks of gold.

For Sarah and William, meeting and getting to know each other seemed as easy and natural as a lakeside breeze. Sarah explains, “My husband and I met at a gathering I had over the summer of 2013. His cousin, who was my roommate, invited him to come up to our lake house one evening. From there, we just continued to hang out and got to know each other.” William later popped the question on what would be a life changing trip for them both to Quebec City, Canada.

THE DRESS Sarah found her way to “the one” by trying on one of every type of dress they had at Blushing Bride in Elkhart, Indiana. She ultimately fell in love with a strapless beauty by designer Sophia Tolli.
THE FLORALS Purple has always been the color Sarah wanted for her wedding. Her palette blossomed into one that included multiple shades, with a lighter, more summer-inspired hue selected for the bridesmaids’ dresses. The groom and groomsmen wore gray, the perfect complement. The mesmerizing florals included purpleberry roses, lavender cool water roses, Sweet William, deep plum mini calla lilies, grape purple Anemone, Lavender Lisianthus and lavender stock.

THE VENUE The venue location was also an easy pick. The private, Bristol, Indiana residence where the couple held there gorgeous nuptials was also the very place where William grew up and always envisioned himself getting married.

Like many young loves, Melissa and Tim met during their college years as they waited at the bus stop to go to the mall. For their first vacation together, the couple planned a trip to Disney World. While Melissa had dreamt of a Disney proposal since the age of nine, she had no idea “the happiest place on earth” was about to reach all new heights for her. After a soak at Splash Mountain and a stop in front of the castle, Tim was down on one knee asking Melissa if she would live happily ever after with him. “It was cheesy and romantic and everything I ever dreamed of!” she says.

THE PLANNING While the pair didn’t have specific details planned out, they knew they wanted an overall feeling of romance, a blush and gold color palette and for Rhiannon Bosse to be on their team. Melissa says, “I had been following her blog for years and even told Tim a year or so before we got engaged that all I wanted was for her to plan our wedding.” Armed with their preferred planner, the couple was connected with amazing vendors to make their dream wedding a reality.

THE DRESS As a girl who loved to play dress up, Melissa completely embraced the wedding dress shopping experience, trying on every kind of dress she could, worried she might miss out. The one that truly made her feel like a princess, however, was a Wtoo by Watters “Selena” dress. “It was an absolute dream dress and, honestly, pretty in line with what I always envisioned for my big day,” says Melissa.

THE FLORALS Rhiannon of Rhiannon Bosse Celebrations designed a magical mix of florals that included pink and blush garden roses, ranunculus, anemones, sweet peas and spray roses. A timeless, summery style was infused with gorgeously formal hints of black. While it was midJuly and the chance of getting beautiful peonies was slim to none, Rhiannon was beyond happy to source the loveliest peonies to use in Melissa's bridal bouquet and ceremony arrangements. Lemon leaf, Variegated Pittosporum and a selection of other greens were also added to the feminine palette. 46

THE VENUE When it came to the venue, Melissa and Tim had a pretty specific vision in mind—wood floors and a light and airy space. Guided by their planner, the two could not have dreamt up a better backdrop. The Loft 310 in downtown Kalamazoo not only had the aesthetic they loved but the separate reception and ceremony spaces they desired—all in one location.

Besides the fun fact that Melissa, Tim and their guests played the MSU fight song three times throughout the night, their guests loved the wonderful food, the stunning venue and just how gorgeous all of the details were. “All Tim and I really wanted was for all of our guests to have an amazing time and throw one big dance party, and we definitely accomplished that!” says Melissa.

The couple’s escort card display was one of their most favorite details. “Rhi had this vision and completely brought it to life,” says Melissa. “Between the florals at the top, the different colored ribbons and Alex’s calligraphy on the cards, it was absolutely perfect. I also loved that we did a dessert bar instead of a traditional cake.” The couple’s lovely dessert lineup included red velvet and strawberry champagne mini cupcakes, chocolate and vanilla cake pops, chocolate chip, snickerdoodle and sugar cookies and caramel corn (the groom’s favorite).

othing can quite beat beachside elegance, hints of spring and a gorgeous Lake Michigan backdrop. Choosing one of the best venue locations in the area, Shanell Edwards of Shanell Photography and Elizabeth Schenk, Owner and Lead Designer at Posh Petals, were graced with a picture-perfect, windswept day for their shoot—one designed with all the beach feels in mind. A dusty blue and blush palette, sandy cliffs and lakeside vignettes combined to create the gorgeously natural scenes while beautiful florals, candles and geometric shapes enriched the pretty views. As a nod to the waves, the stationery and cake both infused a watercolor-inspired design—perfect additions to the fresh palette. 52

THE EASIEST GUIDE TO changing your last name
AFTER THE WEDDING

our newlywed bliss can quickly come to an end when it comes time to endure the dreaded task of changing your last name. The legal process can often take the romance out of taking your significant other’s last name. If you get yourself organized with the proper documents, the process can be less strenuous, allowing you to continue to revel in your newlywed happiness.

Getting a new license from the local Bureau of Motor Vehicles office requires a few documents, namely your old license, the original marriage license and your new Social Security card. Remember to change your address if you have moved after the wedding.
The easiest way to do this is to visit your local branch in person. Take your new license, your marriage license and your new Social Security card, and ask for your name to be changed on your account. Request new checks, debit cards and credit cards with your new name.

If you visit the Social Security Administration’s website, you can find an application for a change of name here. This is a free service. Print the application, fill it out, and include any required documents. You can either take your application to a nearby Social Security office or mail it in. You should receive your new card with your new last name in approximately 10 days.
When your new Social Security card comes in the mail, meet with your HR manager at work to switch your name over. This includes payroll, 401k, your insurance benefits, stocks etc.
MARRIAGE LICENSE FROM THE CLERK’S OFFICE The original license should come from the clerk’s office where your license was filed. One should automatically be sent to you a couple weeks after the wedding. The original document should have a raised seal and your new last name. Also, it’s a good idea to request copies.

Considering five to be their lucky number, Jessie and Greg planned a fun trip to Miami to celebrate their five year anniversary and, to Jessie’s surprise, Greg had an August 5th proposal on the beach in order! Diving into the wedding planning process, Jessie, confident in both her personal style and creativity, opted to plan everything herself. She zeroed in on a “Midsummer Night’s Dream" theme for their wedding—a style that was nothing short of romantic, earthy and ethereal and full of lush details.

THE COLORS Jessie says, “The color palette was ocean colors with shades of blues, purples and nudes. We originally wanted to have the ceremony and reception outside, but couldn’t find the right venue. So instead, I wanted to bring that enchanted garden feeling inside. I chose my florist very carefully and knew she was the kind of artist that would bring the venue to life with her work and be able to execute my vision. To say she executed the vision would be an understatement.” Jessie also let her bridesmaids choose whatever dress they wanted from her gorgeous palette to ensure they felt both comfortable and beautiful.

THE DRESS While Jessie had always dreamt of a “massive princess dress” for her wedding, she fell in love with an Australian company and their modern, delicate looks. When she discovered they were opening one of their first U.S. showrooms in Venice Beach, California, she immediately booked a flight to L.A. She says, “The second I tried on the dress I loved most from their website, I knew it was the one. It fit perfectly and I felt amazing in it. It is the complete opposite of a princess dress—it’s a little bit hippy, while still being chic and modern...It was beyond comfortable, and I felt more beautiful in it than I ever had before in my life.”

THE VENUE “Our venue was one of the only truly unique indoor venues I viewed (and I viewed quite a few) that I felt could be transformed with the florals and decor we chose,” explains Jessie. “The Biltwell was an 100-year-old door and window factory, and it was restored with original wood floors, soaring ceilings, tons of original steel windows and skylights and huge wood beams throughout.” Another bonus was the ceremony and reception could be hosted in the same building.
THE DÉCOR Jessie dreamt of entire installments with fabric, candles, flowers, vines and branches, and her dream certainly came true. She says, “Guests entered to a table with a massive arrangement of crab apple tree branches with tiny lime green apples hanging from the limbs and spilling onto the tables. There were lush vines with roses intertwined leading up the staircase to the reception room where balls of tangled branches hung over tables. Our head table had a massive arrangement suspended above it with vines, flowers, feathers and glass tea light globes hanging from it.” The table décor also included a collection of mercury glass votives, moss, succulents, vases of flowers and large chunks of amethyst crystal. “I’ve always been obsessed with crystals and purple is my favorite color, so the amethysts were probably my favorite touch,” explains Jessie.

SPECIAL TOUCHES Besides writing their own vows, the couple also took pride in the music selections they carefully crafted for each part of their big day. Another of Jessie’s special projects included designing and arranging all of the seating areas. But perhaps her favorite detail was the sweet, copper terrariums Greg surprised Jessie and her bridesmaids with on their wedding day. She says, “Mine had a gold bracelet inside with an amethyst on it. We were so surprised, I can’t believe he arranged it without me knowing!”

When asked what guests would remember about her big day, Jessie says, “I hope more than anything they remember the feeling the day gave them. There was so much love, happiness and hope for the future in the room that night. It was almost palpable, and I’ll never ever forget the feeling it gave me watching it all unfold."

other Nature can be a powerful element when it comes to nuptials. There’s nothing quite like the canopy of tree coverage, raw, gorgeous greenery and peaks of sunshine to evoke romance, intimacy and, in this case, a sense of awe.
The lovely models, in fact, exchanged vows in Turkey Run State Park, the shoot’s beautiful location, 10 years ago. Violet of Violet Short Photography says, “Working alongside Ashley of Wildwood Floral Co. to create the look for this styled vow renewal was such a dream. We knew we wanted to showcase Indiana in a way that America might not expect. This was such a special shoot, and it was so much fun to spend it with two lovers celebrating 10 years of wedded bliss in the place it all started.”

The rocks and hills were the biggest inspiration for the earthy tones and unique dĂŠcor that expertly complemented the rugged and dramatic setting. Wildflowers in a wide array of violet and lavender hues added depth and color to the moody scenes while lovely, hand-painted cookies and pastries added even more detail and texture. 82

THE VISION There’s something about the fresh, airy nature of the outdoors that exudes a beauty and romance that’s hard to rival. The entire inspiration for this issue’s cover centered on the gorgeous spaces Apple Blossom Chapel & Gardens has to offer, including their beautiful, blossoming trees. To bring our dreamy, organic vision to life, we settled on nothing less than a star vendor team led by Holden Alee of Holden Michael Events and photographed by Arielle Peters Photography. Styled around the concept of a couple celebrating their very intimate wedding day surrounded by family and friends, Holden and our team infused the perfect mix of color, romance, elegance and whimsy.

THE VENUE Nestled away in the quaint town that is Fennville, Michigan, located in the heart of Southwest Michigan, Apple Blossom Chapel & Gardens possesses a unique charm that can’t be ignored. From its sprawling grounds to all the outdoor spaces it offers for either a ceremony, reception or intimate celebration, the natural backdrop it provides isn’t only private but gorgeously picturesque. “It’s definitely one of the most beautifully landscaped properties we've seen for weddings,” says Holden. “Apple Blossom does an amazing job maintaining their space. Everything was green and perfect. I also loved that we had so many different spaces to work with. It worked great with the style because it looked like something that just appeared in the middle of the woods.”

THE LOOK We turned to Becker’s Bridal, Michigan’s premier bridal salon, for our stunning dress. As a destination location visited by thousands of brides near and far, we knew their three floors of impeccable gowns would lend itself to the perfect design for our beautiful bride. Holden says, “I knew I wanted something blush with great movement and beautiful details but wouldn’t take away from our model’s natural beauty.” The gorgeous gown featured a beaded, lace bodice and A-line tulle skirt with a train. A cathedral length veil edged with delicate, sparkling beads completed the look. Tova Salon expertly swept the hair into a dramatic chignon and the stunning makeup, designed by Makeup by Jamie, was perfectly soft and romantic, featuring a darker, more dramatic eye and soft pink lip.

THE DÉCOR There’s no better color to complement the freshest of blooms than today’s ever popular but classic blush. To make an even more alluring mix, we added sunset hues such as orange, yellow and magenta. Holden explains, “We combined that with the natural greens of the property and added a bunch of gold accents to really elevate the palette.” Some of our favorite details included rustic farmhouse chairs juxtaposed against more formal place settings, textured linens and gold. “I love mixing unexpected elements together, and I think this table was a great example of that,” says Holden. The lovely ceremony space and cocktail area included a variety of vintage settees. Using items such as ornate, green chairs and a white settee within the bar area, we created a lounge space that was as fun as it was practical. THE FLORALS Shelby of The Day’s Design dreamt up the beautiful, creative arrangements that included garden roses, ranunculus and flowering branches. Holden says, “I’ve admired her work for awhile now and was thrilled to finally be able to work with her. I gave her the color palette and the overall aesthetic and let her run with the concept.” In keeping with our vision, the florals added the perfect amount of drama and whimsy. 94

THE STATIONERY Jamie Lynne Creative infused both the natural beauty of the venue and sunset-inspired palette with a watercolor-like design element featured throughout the stationery suite. The calligraphed apple place cards were a darling addition.
THE DESSERTS Our delicious Crane’s Pie Pantry Restaurant & Winery fruit pies were the perfect complement to our intimate, whimsical wedding. Located just minutes from Apple Blossom, this family-owned business has been a Michigan favorite for decades. In addition to being a great alternative to a large cake display, the pies and other fruit accents added a beautifully unique element.
