STOCKHOLM CITY LINE TUNNEL RUN 2017
Welcome to Stockholm City Line Tunnel Run 2017! I would like to welcome you to the major tunnel race of 2017. You are one of the lucky who will be running this race along with 33,000 others, and it will only take place once. It is not just a special race in itself, it is also a major change that is taking place when the new City Line opens in July and changes the paradigm of public transport for the people and visitors of Stockholm. The new City Line stretches from north to south and will have two new stations, Stockholm Odenplan and Stockholm City. In the same fashion, runners in this race will transport themselves from north to south and pass these new stations, as well as run under the waters of Riddarfjärden to reach the heights of Södermalm, covering a distance of about 7,6 km. Lidingöloppet is the main organiser of this event, which is a joint event with Midnattsloppet. In the 2014 Stockholm Tunnel Run, we ran through the tunnels in the Northern Link and it was an acclaimed festival, which we now are going to recreate with joy and celebration. We want to give you experiences, a festive atmosphere and lots of energy, and we are doing so together with our partners that make this possible. We have been working really hard for many months to make this an event you will not forget for a long time to come. I wish you a great day with us! Tomas Hoszek, CEO of Lidingöloppet

FOR A SUCCESSFUL RACE As the race day approaches, you may have a lot on your mind. So, we have prepared this check-list of things that might be helpful to go over at your own leisure for a successful race. • Do you have all the required items that were provided to you in the start kit? • Check the weather report, keep an eye on the temperature. • Plan what you are going to wear – remember to bring coveralls or jacket to donate to Stockholm City Mission at the start gate. • Plan how to get to the race, use public transport, have in mind that many people are going to the same place, so allow extra time if buses etc. are full. Parking facilities will not be provided. • Plan how to get home from the finish area, Medborgarplatsen. Avoid quieing by top up your SL Access card beforehand. • Attach the timing chip to your shoe and slip on the start group bracelet. • Make sure your phone is fully charged on the race day. • Plan any bag deposit in the start or finish area. • Pick up your bag at the same place where you left it. Opening hours see page 8, “All about the race” • Go to the bathroom well before your start group, toilets are located at several points in the start area. • Your speed determines your position in the tunnel. Faster runners keep left, slower keep right. • Get ready to climb the hills of the heights of Södermalm. • Celebrate crossing the finish line. Take a photo/selfie in front of the photo wall and share it with your friends, hashtag #Tunnelrun2017 • Water bottle, energy drinks and snacks will be waiting for you at the finish line. • You will find your time at tunnelrun.se. See the pictures via the hashtag #Tunnelrun2017 on social media. • Meeting point – there are 8 different colours at the meeting point in Fatbursparken, which makes it easy to find your friends. You just have to decide at what colour to meet up. See map page 9.

before the race
The Course The race passes through the paved service tunnel that runs parallel to the commuter rail tunnel, beneath central Stockholm and offers both steep ascents and long descents. The race starts at the Karolinska Institute and finishes at Fatbursparken in Stockholm. The course in the tunnel is about as wide as a car lane, and it may get a little crowded from time to time during the race, please bear in mind that you will not be able to keep the same pace. For security reasons, we do not allow inline skates, roller skis, bicycles or strollers. This race does not feature a wheelchair category. A lot of activities will take place in the tunnel during the race. If you slow down or stop to photograph or get a longer experience, keep right, to leave space for those who choose to keep running on your left side. The start groups are spread throughout the day, so there will be a continuous flow of runners in the tunnel. You will find the most current information at tunnelrun.se.

Timing chip and start group bracelet
In your start kit, you will find a timing chip and a start group bracelet. The timing chip should be fitted as a loop on your shoe. Do not press or fold it, see instructions below and the picture to the right.
How to fit your shoe chip:
Hold the chip with the coloured side facing up. Slip one part of the chip under your shoelace (see picture). Peel off the protective tape and glue both ends together. Throw the protective tape in a rubbish bin. Turn the chip until the green side faces up. The chip should be in a loop, i.e. not squashed or folded. Note: If your chip is misplaced or breaks, you will not be timed. It is your responsibility to see to it that the chip is fitted correctly and is not broken. Broken or forgotten chip will not be replaced. The chip is a single-use, and should be sorted as electronic waste. Bring the chip home and dispose of it as electronic waste. The timing services at the 2017 Stockholm City Line Tunnel Run are provided by Neptron AB.
Assembly of start group bracelet
Your start kit includes a start group bracelet. Participants must wear their start group bracelet, which also is their entry ticket to the start gate. It must be visibly displayed and presented to the volunteers. The start group bracelet comes in four colours. Each colour indicates if you start :00, :15, :30, or :45. If you, for example, start in start group 2, where the race starts at 09:15, you have a yellow start group bracelet and you enter “09” in front of the pre-printed text .15. Complete the requested information on the start group bracelet. Slip the start group bracelet on your wrist, pull off the tape and secure the ends.

You may leave your bag and coveralls at both the start and finish area, check the signs. Your items will not be transported to the finish line. So make sure you drop off your bag at the finish area before heading to the start area. Pick up your bag at the same place where you left it. We are not responsible for valuables. We do not accept computers, tablets, phones or similar devices. Opening hours see Opening hours heading.
Cannot finish the race?
If you cannot finish the race, please make your way to the closest volunteer/paramedic along the course.
Changing & shower
Shower facilities have been made available through Friskis&Svettis Stockholm. You have shower facilities in three of their facilities. F&S Skanstull (Folksamskrapan), F&S Skrapan (Skatteskrapan) and F&S Ringen. Report to the reception. See the “Facilities” menu at: http://www.sthlm.friskissvettis.se
Communication & transport We ask everyone to use public transport to get to the start. Metro or bus. Use the SL travel planner to plan your trip and be punctual. Since roads are closed and parking is not offered, driving is very limited. Getting dropped off? Have your driver drop you off at Solnavägen 4 near the entrance to the start area. The distance from S:t Eriksplan, exit Torsgatan, to the start area, is about 900 meters.
Dress appropriately
It is slightly warmer inside the tunnel than outside. Plan what you are going to wear. At the start, it can be cold, in the tunnel warmer, and then at the finish cold again. Layer up, as it is easier to take a piece of clothing off and, for example, tie a windbreaker around your waist, then to add a non-existent layer you did not bring to warm up. You may NOT leave your coveralls at the start gate. Here however, you have the opportunity to donate your jacket/coveralls to the Stockholm City Mission and thereby contribute to the work for people living in poverty. The donated clothes are distributed as part of the social activities of the Stockholm City 8
Mission or sold in their second-hand stores. Since the Stockholm City Mission is unable to wash, dry or repair donated clothes, we can only accept clean and dry clothes that are in good condition. Thank you for your donation!
Drink stations
There will be a water station after about 2 km, just before entering the tunnel and water etc. at the finish area.
