New Book Teasers A Song for Issy Bradley Carys Bray

The Bradleys see the world as a place where miracles are possible and where nothing is more important than family. This is their story. Intensely moving, unexpectedly funny and deeply observed, A Song for Issy Bradley explores the outer reaches of doubt and faith and of a family trying to figure out how to carry on when the innermost workings of their world have broken apart.

Twisted

Lynda La Plante Amy Fulford, excellent pupil and gifted athlete at a girls’ public school in Ascot vanishes one Saturday afternoon. DSI Marshe runs the local missing persons unit. He is responsible for overseeing the search for Amy Fulford. While the spiral of media interest in the missing daughter of a well-connected couple heats up, the spotlight turns on the parents who are embroiled in a bitter divorce. Amy’s journal surfaces with disturbing entries about her mother’s abilities and her father’s sordid sexual activities. Marshe’s DCS is convinced Marcus Fulford is responsible for his daughter’s death but Marshe himself is not so sure.

Reviews from our Readers

Trails to Heaven Stuart Wavell This is Stuart Wavell's first and, so far, only book. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had everything, adventure, mystery, romance and travel. Set in Baffin Island within the Arctic Circle, it features some great characters, both Inuit (Eskimos) and outsiders. Information about the Inuit, their beliefs, their social structure and, indeed, the very way they exist is very skilfully and compassionately woven into the fabric of a great mystery and adventure story. I just hope that I never meet a Polar Bear face to face but I would love to find another book by this talented author. Reviewed by Roger

Paris Letters Janice MacLeod This is a most enjoyable memoir especially for someone who loves Paris. It is a delightful change of life memoir with lots of helpful ideas of how to achieve such a move. Put that together with a love affair and you have magic. Moving from the driven life of an advertising copywriter experiencing burnout to finally understanding the slow stroll of life in Paris, Janice MacLeod had me with her all the way. Reviewed by Lynne

The Gypsy Girl Valerie Wood I have read two of Valerie Wood's books and thoroughly enjoyed them both. Reminiscent of Catherine Cookson, but not quite so dark, Ms Woods manages to keep the hope going even in the darkest of days. Set in the English town of Hull and the surrounding Yorkshire countryside, it tells the story of a pretty, part gypsy girl and her best mate, a foundling boy with a cleft palate and other disabilities and their joint search for a better life. Giving a really believable feel for the life of both rich and poor in the 19th Century and of both town and country living. Reviewed by Roger

Each day a team of app experts chooses one of the best paid apps from the App Store, and negotiates with the app’s developers to make it free for 24 hours. This concept, already very popular in the US and other European countries, allows smartphone users to save hundreds of dollars each year.
