WHAT IS AN E-BOOK?

WHAT IS A DATABASE?

HOW DO I FIND LIBRARY E-BOOKS?

HOW DO I FIND THE RIGHT DATABASE?

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF E-BOOKS?

WHERE CAN I FIND DIGITAL VIDEOS, PICTURES, AND MUSIC?

An e-book is a digital book that is readable on electronic devices such as computers, tablets, and e-readers. The Jerry Falwell Library’s e-book collection is accessible from any computer and most mobile devices. E-books may be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week from Liberty’s online library portal. Library e-books can be found several different ways: • Results from any search on the JFL website may include e-books related to your search terms. • By clicking on “Books” in the drop-down menu to the left of the “Search Anything” box, you can limit your results to only e-books. • Under the “Collections” drop-down menu, choose “E-books” for a selection of the most popular e-book databases.

These resources are full-text searchable and accessible anywhere and anytime. Most can be downloaded to your device for a specified “check-out” time, allowing you to use them offline.

HOW MANY E-BOOKS DOES THE JERRY FALWELL LIBRARY HAVE?

The library has access to over 500,000 electronic resources covering a wide range of disciplines, such as business, education, history, literature, psychology, religion, science, and more.

HOW CAN I GET HELP WITH USING E-BOOKS?

For more information about finding and downloading e-books, and other frequently asked questions, visit the e-books guide at LibGuides.Liberty.edu/EBooks.

Contact the Electronic Resources Librarian (e-books) Nathaniel Pockras at (434) 592-6554 or email njpockras@liberty.edu.

A database is a collection of resources searchable by topic. Most databases consist of journal articles, but there are also specialized databases that include a wide variety of materials such as newspaper articles, reference books, music, videos, pictures, and more. The library has grouped databases by subject areas to make it easier to find the best resources for your topic. • Under the “Collections” menu, choose “Databases.” • For general searches, choose one of the “Featured Resources.” • For specific searches, choose the subject area under “Browse by Subject” on the left, then explore the databases specific to that subject area.

We have specialized databases for audio, images, videos, and sheet music, which can be located by choosing “Media” on the “Collections” menu.

WHERE CAN I FIND DISSERTATIONS AND THESES?

Whether you are looking for dissertations and theses published by Liberty University faculty and students or those published by other scholars, you can find them by clicking on “Dissertations & Theses” in the “Research” menu.

HOW CAN I GET HELP WITH USING DATABASES AND OTHER ONLINE RESOURCES? You can get general research help by phone, email, chat, or in person. See back of brochure for details.

Contact the Electronic Resources Librarian (databases) Mike Cobb at (434) 592-3317 or email mcobb@liberty.edu.
