CLIMATE CHANGE PROGRAMS Available Online In June 2020, New Jersey became the first state to fully integrate climate education into its K-12 learning standards. The New Jersey Student Learning Standards require climate change education across seven areas: 21st Century Life and Careers, Comprehensive Health and Physical Education, Science, Social Studies, Technology, Visual and Performing Arts, and World Languages. The goal is to prepare students to understand how and why climate change happens and its impact on our local and global communities, and to act in informed and sustainable ways. We are ready to support educators with programs for grades Pre-K through high school, which can take place at LSC, online, and at your school. Our Science On a Sphere (SOS) programs employ the ultimate data visualization tool—a six-foot illuminated globe display. Using the only publicly accessible SOS in New Jersey, these programs present a unique opportunity to see evidence of climate change in NOAA and NASA data sets vividly come to life. Other program types include laboratory workshops, young learner series, and teacher professional development. Let us know how you are incorporating climate change learning in the classroom, and we can help you succeed!

PLANETARIUM PROGRAMS Available Online Our Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium is the biggest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere and the fifth largest in the world. It is uniquely designed to display Earth and Space Systems phenomena in a way that’s just not possible in the classroom. View astronomical objects and celestial phenomena from the surface of Earth and then travel into space to truly understand these concepts by flying up to, around, and through the objects. We can also speed up time in our presentations, allowing you to make an entire year of space systems observations during one program—seasons, moon phases, seasonal constellations, and more. Our 27-meter (89-foot) dome, coupled with an all-dome video and astronomical object database, provides an immersive environment in which to explore the Earth and Space Systems Performance Expectations of the NJSLS - Science.

How It Works Online Using the same advanced software as in our planetarium, we bring astronomy and aerospace content to the classroom and your students’ screens. These programs are presented ‘live’ by an LSC Planetarium Educator and allow lots of time for students to ask questions to the presenter.

Check your grade band section for planetarium programs that are aligned with your grade-specific NJSLS - Science requirements.

GRADES 9 - 12 While gaining proficiency with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Science, students at the high school level are expected to explore major global issues at the interface of science, technology, society, and the environment; to engage in analytical and strategic thinking that prior training and increased maturity make possible. As at prior levels, these capabilities can be thought of in three stages: defining the problem, developing possible solutions, and improving designs. LSC’s programs for high school students allow them to successfully explore these stages. 54
