Introduction
Liberty Prairie (formerly Liberty Prairie Foundation) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Grayslake, Illinois. We steward 95 acres of organic farmland within Prairie Crossing, a nationally recognized Conservation Community. Our work focuses on growing healthy food for people and the earth, studentleadership, hands-on experiences, and bringing food from within 300 miles to you at the Liberty Prairie Farm Store.
About The Event
In 2023, Liberty Prairie and Grayslake Community High School District 127 (D127) deepened learning experiences and created a student educational and entrepreneurship opportunity: the Annual Spring Plant Sale & Farm Festival, D127 students are central to all the pivotal roles from seed to sale and will start working in the greenhouse late February for the 2025 capstone event on Saturday, May 10th.
1,000 eager shoppers are anticipated. Attendees will peruse a wide assortment of vegetables, herbs, and flowers meticulously cultivated by students and staff. Native plants, sourced from Possibility Place, will be available as will organic compost and local leaf mulches. Volunteer plant experts will be present to help with plant selection and gardening best practices. Student entertainment along with farm activities (including sheep shearing!) will enrich the day.
Funds raised underwrite agriculture education at the farm.
