-Problem: Lack of Family Connection while eating due to factors such as phones on the table, different schedules, loss of tradition, etc.

-Needs: Bond while eating, Social Interaction, Mexican Cuisine, Prioritizing Quality Time, and Reviving Family Traditions.

-Proposal: A product family purposed for a carne asada, a tradition in the north, that encourages socialization. Each product is designed to encourage interaction and address the lack thereof in families nowadays.

GROUP N’ GRILL

This silverware set consists of a Lazy Susan, which is the main element of the family and has an ergonomic shape holding up to 10 tacos. This product urges a family to interact due to its spinning characteristic and the fact that every family member has to sit down at the same time.

The complimentary plates also incite interaction since they have a curved shape that allow the user to hold them while standing up, essential to make the person who is cooking company.

The process consisted of creating a 3D model of each product, blueprints, renders, prototyping using modeling paste, 3D printing four products, and actually constructing two of them which were the Lazy Susan and the center cup that goes on top of it. We used ceramic for the center cup and wood for the Lazy Susan.

This whole process was possible with my great teammates Paulina Soto and Eduardo Benitez and with the help of a skilled carpenter who helped us make the Lazy Susan we designed.

FILTEREASE

-Problem: The Athabasca River basin experienced a catastrophic failure due to unprecedented rainfall and high spring runoff, causing contaminated water to pour into the river. This led to the community being divided into shelters where 658 inhabitants had to be relocated.

-Proposal: To ensure that each individual in the shelter has clean water available to drink, we created a portable water bottle that filters out the bacteria in a matter of minutes.

FILTEREASE

Filterease works by filling the black cup with surface water, then applying the filter cup, then the funnel, and finally the white cup. Then you turn the bottle around and wait for the water to filter in a matter of minutes, and lastly enjoy the purified water.

The bottle has an integrated filter that is made up of activated carbon which retains organic contaminants, including those that give taste, odor and color to purify water coming from surface water such as wells and rivers.

-Book Leaner is a flowerpot made from a mold of foamboard and a concrete mix with cement, sand, and gravel. This product is designed for a user who enjoys reading as well as aesthetic geometry and minimalist decoration.

-Bookshelf 127 is a product made from various boards of national pine measuring 1.5 inches thick, assembled with screws. The finish of this bookshelf consists of stained varnish to preserve its wooden appearance, which gives it a rustic and elegant look. The users of this product are out-of-town students looking for small and useful decoration for their apartments.

Metalica is made from a galvanized steel sheet with a gauge of 26, featuring a yellow light bulb that creates a warm ambiance. Ideal for students who can use it for reading, drawing, or writing since it is of a good size and fits anywhere.

-Bubble is a cutlery set consisting of a spoon, a fork, and a knife, which were manufactured from a sheet of styrene, automotive putty, and spray paint. Its shape was inspired by a bubble with the purpose of creating a round and organic effect.
