Sea is not the horizon, it is the way you look at it!
you leave the city: moments that stay with you. It is not only the images that captivate you, but the way you experience them. A walk along the harbour at sunset, a table by the water slowly filling with friends and stories, a swim in waters that seem to hold within them the light of the entire day. These are small scenes which, when brought together, form something greater - a personal summer narrative.
“Sea is not the horizon, it is the way you look at it”.
The Saronic Gulf is not simply a nearby destination; it is a place with its own identity, where the sea does not serve as a backdrop but as the protagonist in an ever-evolving experience of rhythm and colour. Here, each island has its own character, its own energy, and its own way of bringing you closer to what you are truly searching for when
And somewhere there, between light, water, and human moments, the most authentic invitation is born: to experience summer not simply as a holiday, but as something that stays with you. To return not because you have not seen enough - but because each time, there is something new to feel.

In the Saronic Gulf, a journey is not simply a route from one island to another. It is moments, images, emotions that remain forever etched in memory. It is the salty breeze on the deck, the first light illuminating the whitehousesontheislands, theanticipationthatarisesthemomentyou glimpse your destination on the horizon.
On this route, Saronic is always there - ready to take you on a journey, toaccompanyyou, tobecomepartofyourownsummerstory.Steadily by the side of travelers and the islands, it remains the No.1 ferry force of the Saronic, dynamically continuing its course toward the future.
FOUR INTERNATIONAL AWARDS
In 2025, Saronic was honored with significant distinctions for its rebranding: 2 awards at the Ermis Awards and 2 at the Red Dot Awards, confirming that its new identity expresses in the best possible way its essence and its future. The goal remains constant: to offer, every time, a journey that is human, authentic, and safe - a journey that begins the moment you step on board.
SIGNIFICANT SOCIAL IMPACT
At the same time, Saronic continues to stand by the islands it connects across three pillars: health, sports, and culture. In the field of health, it ensures free transportation of medical personnel and equipment, patient transfers, and the steady presence of National Public Health Organization (EODY) units on the islands when needed. In sports, it sponsors the region’s largest events - from the “Ioannis Kapodistrias” race in Aegina to the Poros triathlon and the traditional boat regatta in Alimos. It also supports sports clubs, festivals, and cultural activities organized by municipalities.
€1,700,000
INVESTMENTS IN FLEET UPGRADES
Last year, it fully renovated the passenger areas of Poseidon, with an investment of €700,000. This year, it completed the full renovation of Achaeos, with an investment of €1,000,000. As part of the same initiative, it also replaced the vehicle loading ramp at the port of Aegina - a port unprotected and exposed to waves. The new ramp improves loading safety and contributes to the consistency of routes in
difficult weather conditions.
Overall, within two years, it has invested €1,700,000 in upgrading vessels that were already in operation. Because operation alone is not enough. The ships serve hundreds of passengers daily - permanent residents, workers, families. The quality of the space offered to them is part of the service, not a secondary issue.
SARONIC BONUS CARD: MORE BENEFITS FOR TRAVELERS
Saronic’s fares have remained stable for five years - during a period when rising costs affected every sector of the economy. Its accessibility isastrategicdecision, notaconcession.Whenfaresremainaffordable, people keep moving, and this mobility supports the local economy. In this context, those who choose Saronic again and again have access to the Saronic Bonus Card - a card that rewards passengers’ trust with tangible benefits.

THE FUTURE OF TRAVEL IS GREEN
But Saronic does not stop here. It looks ahead, with vision and action. In 2026, the fleet expands with a new, modern vessel - the company’s 6th ship, KALLIRROI - confirming Saronic Ferries’ ongoing investment in the future of sea transportation. A STRONG PRESENCE EVERY DAY, ALL YEAR ROUND
Saronic began in these waters and grew alongside them. Without a stable, reliable, and affordable connection, many of the things that live and thrive on the islands today would not be possible - neither tourism, nor permanent residence, nor local entrepreneurship. This gives it responsibility, not just motivation. And that responsibility compels it to continue investing, improving, and remaining present - every day, in every season.

Margellos Sets the Summer Table
Sotiris Margellos is preparing something new for this summer, promising unforgettable culinary experiences for visitors to Aegina. Blending premium cuts of meat with aromas and flavors inspired by cuisines from around the world, he brings people together around the table. “This summer, we are trying to solve a difficult equation, but I believe we have found a way to respond to rising prices, profiteering, and superficiali-
ty,” says Sotiris Margellos, founder of Margellos Premium Meat. “We expanded our range of products and, alongside our premium meat selections - whether for everyday meals or special occasions - we introduced wine labels from Greece and around the world, award-winning cheeses, rare cold cuts, and handmade pasta. Through the space we have created, we aim to offer customers a complete gastronomic journey. People may initially come in with a simple idea for their table, but as they move through the store, they discover new ideas and affordable options that allow them to enjoy something truly different. And when I say different, I mean quality and high gastronomic standards”.
Are there options for visitors who do not have the time or equipment to prepare elaborate recipes?
“For every season of the year, our workshop creates ready-to-cook dishes. Especially for summer, our prepared selections cater to every preference. Using meat as the foundation, we create recipes combined with fruits, vegetables, and pasta that, believe me, leave no one indifferent. That’s why we wanted to build an environment that doesn’t overwhelm customers but instead offers solutions they may never have imagined. This doesn’t mean we only cater to special occasions. Our starting point is always the everyday table - we simply elevate the ordinary”.

More Than a Cooking ClassThe Story Behind Odyssey Cooking Experience
tween cultures. A place where visitors are not just customers, but become part of our ‘family,’ learning to cook with their hearts the way our grandmothers taught us, while bringing a contemporary perspective to the process.
How does a typical cooking class unfold from the moment guests arrive?
The experience begins with a warm welcome, a small treat and a relaxed conversation to get to know one another. Then we put on our aprons and get to work! We chop, taste, smell the herbs, and talk about the secrets behind each ingredient. There is no pressure; there is laughter, music, and wine. The class reaches its most beautiful moment when we all gather around a large table and enjoy the dishes we have created together, like a group of friends who have known each other for years.
Which Greek dish do you believe tells the most powerful story?
Gemista (stuffed vegetables) and traditional pies made with handmade phyllo. Gemista is the ultimate Greek summer dish - it shows how Greek cuisine transforms the simplest ingredients from the garden, such as tomatoes, peppers, and herbs, into culinary poetry with the generous use of olive oil. It is a dish that speaks of patience and love. Traditional pies, on the other hand, tell the story of the Greek countryside - how women were able to nourish entire families with little more than flour, water, and wild greens.
What is it that excites you most about teaching cooking?
The moment I see surprise and satisfaction in my students’ eyes. When someone who has never rolled out phyllo dough before sees their pie emerge from the oven golden, crisp, and beautiful. That transformation - from uncertainty to confidence - and the way food unlocks people’s smiles and memories is, for me, the greatest reward.
What inspired you to create a space dedicated to Greek cooking classes?
For me, Greek cuisine is much more than a collection of recipes - it is a way of life, a form of communication, and an expression of hospitality. Seeing people from all over the world become enchanted by our flavors, I realized that they didn’t simply want to enjoy good food; they wanted to understand the culture behind it. That is why I wanted to create a place where the dining table becomes a bridge be-
What would you like guests to take with them when they leave Odyssey - beyond the recipes?
The feeling of Greek hospitality. I want them to remember the scent of fresh mint on their hands, the sound of glasses clinking together, and the warmth of the people they met. - THE CLOCK
The clock, symbol and emblem of the island, is easily accessible from the port. It is surrounded by prickly pear and pine trees at the highest point of the island, which is why the view of the harbor and the opposite coasts is so enchanting. It was built in 1927 and the cost of its construction was covered by the Poriotis MP of Troizinia, Ioannis Char. Papa-
The ancient temple of Poseidon is located on the north side of the island, in Palatia, which is between Vigla and Profitis Ilias. It is estimated that it was built in 520 BC. and is Doric in style with 6 columns in width and 12 in length and with 2 entrances. In fact, it is one of the three great sanctuaries of Poseidon around the Saronic Gulf. The temple formed an isosceles triangle with Aphaia Aegina and Poseidon of Sounio. Only a few ruins remain of the Doric temple (6th century) built of blue limestone. However, it remains one of the most important monuments of antiquity in ancient Kalavria, in perhaps the most beautiful part of the island.

To the west of the port of Poros, 5 kilometers north, in a beautiful bay, the ruins of the amphitheatrically built Russian naval station are preserved. After the end of the Russo-Turkish war, the Russians chose this port to create a station for the Russian fleet. So in 1834 they built a complex of buildings for the production of galeta and for the storage of materials, food and coal to supply the Russian fleet. The Russians maintained the property until 1900. At the beginning of the 20th century, the then Greek Ambassador to Russia, Alexandros Tombazis, a native of Poriot, proposed to the Tsar that the property be transferred to the Greek state for the benefit of the Greek Navy. The Tsar agreed and so the Russian Naval Base came under the jurisdiction of the Naval Service that was then based in Poros. Since 1989 it has been declared a historical monument due to its great architectural and historical interest.

A PARADISE RISING FROM THE AZURE WATERS OF THE ARGOSARONIC GULF
Escape from reality to a world that combines tradition with luxury and refinement. We are referring, of course, to the beautiful island of Spetses, called ”Isole di Spezzie” by the Venetians, which means ”Island of Fragrances”. This lush green island stops time and transports us to a dream world of grandeur and authenticity. Welcome to the world of Spetses, where the diversity of cultures, the richness of nature and the love of art blend with a relaxed atmosphere and an infinite sense of freedom. The first image that greets you
when you arrive on the island is the historic port and capital of the island, Dapia. You will immediately fall in love with its imposing neoclassical buildings, cobblestone streets and colorful flowers. Dapia was the gathering place for nobles and captains during the Greek War of Independence in 1821. The picturesque port with its old arsenal and historical monuments impresses every visitor. On the right side of the port you will find the statue of Bouboulina and the majestic captain’s villas along the beach. As you move towards the left end of the island, you will see traditional carriages and the old port, a reminder of Spetses’ maritime heritage.

What was your first connection with Spetses, and what made the island stand out to you?
My first meaningful connection with Spetses came through the island’s unique atmosphere: its history, its maritime identity, and that rare sense of authenticity that is difficult to find elsewhere. Spetses has a distinct character, combining cosmopolitan elegance with a deeply Greek soul. What truly made it stand out to me was the feeling, from the very first moment, that this was a place with a strong personality - one capable of hosting something truly significant without ever losing its authenticity.
What inspired you to create the Spetses mini Marathon, and how does its philosophy connect with the identity of the island?
The inspiration came from the need to create something that Greece lacked at the time: an institution that would meaningfully connect sports with tourism and the experience of a destination. When we first started, the concept of sports tourism as we know it today did not really exist in Greece. The Spetses mini Marathon was the first event to open this path in the country, proving in practice that a sporting event can function as a driver of extroversion, growth, and destination branding. Its philosophy is summarized in the phrase "2win is 2participate". It is not simply a slogan, but the very essence of the event: that true victory lies in participation, effort, self-transcendence, and the joy of being part of a collective experience. This philosophy is what made the Spetses mini Marathon stand out and become a point of reference, paving the way for many other events that followed.
This year marks 15 years since the first edition of the Spetses mini Marathon. Looking back, what is your overall reflection on the event?
For me, these 15 years represent the validation of a vision that began with faith, persistence, and a tremendous amount of hard work. Looking back is deeply emotional, because we have witnessed an idea evolve into a benchmark institution for Greek sports tourism. Spetses mini Marathon has managed to gain an international footprint, attract tens of thousands of participants, continuously strengthen the image of Spetses both in Greece and abroad, and serve as a case study of how the state, local authorities, and private initiative can collaborate in a meaningful way. Above all, however, the greatest achievement is that we have managed to preserve the human-centered character of the event.
Did you face difficulties along this journey? And if so, what were the most significant ones?
Of course there were difficulties - many of them. When you build an institution from the ground up, you constantly have to prove that your vision can stand, grow, and endure over time. The greatest challenges involved managing an increasingly demanding production, ensuring high standards in terms of safety, expertise, and organization, while also continuously evolving without losing our identity. Every year requires adaptation, foresight, and quick reflexes. Yet it was precisely these challenges that made us stronger and more experienced.
Our conversation takes place in the aftermath of Spetsathlon 2026, which concluded just a few days ago. What thoughts and emotions are you left with?
After every Spetsathlon, I always feel a deep sense of fulfillment and emotion. It is an event with a very special energy, because it combines a demanding competitive spirit with the unique landscape of Spetses. What remains strongest afterward is the image of people surpassing themselves, the sense of community, and the confirmation that Spetses is capable of hosting high-level events with an international orientation. Every year, Spetsathlon reminds us that sport is not only about performance, but also about the power of purpose, self-transcendence, and collective experience.
How do you believe your events have influenced the local community and the economy of Spetses throughout these years?
I believe the impact has been substantial, consistent, and multidimensional. The events have contributed significantly to ex-
tending the tourist season, strengthening the local economy, and promoting Spetses as a destination with a strong identity and international appeal. Hotels, restaurants, retail stores, transportation services, and local businesses all benefit each year from the presence of thousands of visitors, athletes, and accompanying guests. At the same time, through the continuous growth of the events, issues related to infrastructure and the island’s overall image are also brought to light in practice, including the importance of Poseidonion Square as a central experiential hub for participants and visitors alike. Throughout this journey, the Municipality of Spetses has been a constant supporter of our efforts, and I would especially like to thank Eugenia Fraggia for our excellent collaboration. She is a dynamic woman with a genuine desire to strive for and achieve meaningful improvements for the island of Spetses, and I believe this is of great importance for both the present and the future of the island.
What has been the response of the residents of Spetses throughout all these years? Have they embraced these sporting events?
Yes - and I would say that this embrace has been one of the most touching aspects of the entire journey. The residents of Spetses are not simply spectators; they are an inseparable part of the soul of these events. From young children to the island’s older generations, every year we witness authentic participation, a willingness to contribute, and a strong sense of pride. Our volunteers are the unsung heroes of the institution. They are the people who give the races their human character and make every participant feel part of one large family. This relationship of trust and affection is perhaps the most valuable asset we have built over the years.
At the same time, you are the founder of Communication Lab, which now counts 18 years in the fields of communication and digital marketing. Did you imagine you would come this far? And what would you like the coming years to bring?
The truth is that I always dreamed of building something with substance, longevity, and a clear identity. The fact that Communication Lab now celebrates 18 years of presence is very important to me, because it proves that with consistency, creativity, and strategic thinking, it is possible to evolve meaningfully in such a demanding industry. I feel grateful for this journey, for the people who stood beside me, and for everything we have achieved together. In the years ahead, I would like to see even more growth, new ideas, international opportunities, and projects with real impact.

Atrulyspectaculareventwithatouchofrevolutiontakesplace every September on the second Saturday of the month on the historic island of Spetses, culminating in the impressive re-enactment of the burning of a replica of the Turkish flagship. It is a cultural event that impresses spectators of all ages every year.
But what’s its significance in Greek history? On September 8, 1822, Ypsilantis from the land and Bouboulina from the sea besieged one of the last points of resistance of the Turks, Palamidi in Nafplio. To strengthen their resistance, the Turks sent part of their fleet to destroy Hydra and Spetses as a diversion. They hoped that the threat to the islands would force the Greek forces to split. However, the Greeks did not move their forces from Palamidi, and the confrontation with the Turks was carried out by men from both islands. In preparation for their resistance, the Greeks evacuated the inhabitants of Spetses to Hydra, and only 60 brave men with captains Tsourpas, Lambrou, Kriezi and Koutsis remained on the island to face the Turkish fleet.
After a long naval battle in the waters of Spetses, where the Turks had a clear numerical advantage, the Greeks, led by the Spetsiot fireboat captain Kosmas Barbatsis, managed to reach the Turkish flagship and set it on fire. The courageous action of the Greeks and the destruction of their flagship forced the Turks to retreat. The people of Spetses, believing that they had the help of Panagia (Virgin Mary) in their victory over the outnumbered Turks, gave the name ”Panagia Armata” to the chapel located in the port, and they celebrate it every year on September 8th.

The Soul of Authentic Greek Cuisine!
Pachni is one of those places that does not try to attract attention - and ultimately wins it precisely because of that. With an approach rooted in flavour without excess, the tavern of Thomas and Niki Thymara is a unique journey of taste and memory, spanning more than two decades. Its philosophy is based on Greek cuisine, using fresh ingredients and dishes that allow the raw materials to speak for themselves. Here, flavour is not "embellished" - it is built with respect, care, and simplicity. The vegetables come from their own organic cultivation, and the olive oil is also produced by the family, while the menu evokes memories of beloved traditional dishes. And make sure you don’t leave without trying Mrs. Niki’s spoon sweets, the perfect ending to every meal.

In 2007, Panagiotis Tetsis (Hydra, 1925-Athens, 2016), painter and academic, donated his grandparents' Hydra house to the Historical and Ethnological Society of Greece. The house, which was typical of the 19th and early 20th centuries, was also used by the family for professional activities. The ground floor housed a waxworks and a grocery store-tavern. The will was to preserve the family home, the grocery store and the wine store, which are still intact today. The artist's works and the objects of the house are presented today to highlight the special character of the whole. The Tetsis House can be visited by anyone who requests it, in collaboration with the staff of the Lazaros Kountouriotis Historical House, the branch of the National Historical Museum in Hydra, which has been operating since 2001.

A home for Books on Hydra since 1993
Από
Since 1993, Hydra Bookstore has been one of Hydra’s most important cultural landmarks, keeping the island’s connection to literature, art, and creative thought alive. For Stamatia Vlachodimitri, who grew up in a small island community with a slow pace of life, books always represented a way to travel beyond the boundaries of everyday life. Today, she continues to maintain a space dedicated to literature, art, and
knowledge, with the aim of creating meaningful connections between people, stories, and the unique identity of Hydra.
What philosophy guides your selection of titles and publications?
Our goal is to offer a collection that balances the contemporary with the timeless. We always carry new releases and best sellers, while maintaining close relationships with several contemporary authors whose work we admire and believe will continue to be read by future generations. At the same time, we place particular emphasis on publications related to Hydra: works by local personalities, historical studies, art collections, and editions created with great research accuracy. We also feature publications from important institutions such as the Deste Foundation, the Benaki Museum, the Vitra Design Museum, and others.
Is there a book that has personally marked you?
My grandfather’s first book, titled *Memories of a Lifetime*, which is his autobiography. He was a sponge diver and lived an extraordinarily difficult life. This book holds immense emotional value for me, both for what it tells and for what it symbolizes. Especially today, as he is seriously ill, I often remember a moment that deeply moved me. He called me from Ermioni and said: "I’m at the port packing the books into a box. My eyes are filled with tears as I write ‘To Stamatia’s Bookstore’ on it. I feel very proud of you, and I thank you". It is one of those moments that stays with you forever.
