Strength and Conditioning Club hosts 5k to aid Houston recovery

The Strength, Conditioning and Fitness club organized “Hustling for Houston,” a 5K Walk/Run, hosted by Lock Haven University on Wednesday to help in the recovery effort for Houston, Texas which was hit by a Hurricane in August. Eliana Powell, a freshman health sciences major, said before the race, “I’m a little nervous- because let me tell you, I don’t run- so this is going to be an interesting challenge but I’m kind of excited.” Participants started at the Rec. Center, rounded the parking lot, a maze through campus, rounding the football field and back through. All the proceeds were donated to the YMCA of the Greater Houston Area. In addition to the monetary donations, the registered participants filled out cards that will be hung for display in Houston and a member of the Strength, Conditioning and Fitness club will be sending a video of the event’s volunteers, participants and club leaders sharing some encouraging words for those affected. The category 4 hurricane named Harvey killed 77 people and hit Houston especially hard. Enroute, The storm crossed the Yucatán Peninsula where it was downgraded to a tropical storm but over 56 hours it regained its strength and developed into a category 4 hurricane, making landfall on Aug. 25. Over the course of 3 days it dropped 40-61 inches of rain, breaking all U.S. tropical cyclone rain records. It is estimated by Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, that the damages could cost between $150 billion to $180 billion; more costly than that of Hurricanes Katrina or Sandy which hit New Orleans, Louisiana and New York, New York respectively. Katie Krasinski, a junior exercise science and recreational management major and President of the Strength, Conditioning and Fitness club said,”we started planning this 2 months ago when [Hurricane Harvey] first happened, it was the first real news that hit, before las vegas and Hurricane Irma, and we thought ‘how can we help as a club?’ I started calling random places until I found the YMCA and thought that if we could give back to something that relates to us, that’s pretty cool”

Congressmen speaks to high school students Editor-in-Chief ddd4907@lockhaven.edu “The Future of our country is dependent on how well you do“ said a United States Congressmen to a Approximately 140 High School students from around the area gathered in the Parsons Union Building multipurpose room during a Government Outreach hosted by Lock Haven University on Oct. 18. U.S. Congressman Glenn Thompson is the representative of Pennsylvania’s Fifth Congressional District, Pennsylvania’s largest district geographically. Prior to being a congressman, Rep. Thompson spent 28 years as a therapist, rehabilitation services manager and a licensed nursing home administrator. Rep.Thompson is Co-Chairman of the bipartisan Congressional Career and Technical Education Caucus, and a member of the Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Education and Workforce committees. “we need you to be successful in life, we need you to find your passion, to find your purpose and to find your way in life, which is not always easy.” said Rep. Thompson “because if you don’t, no pressure, the United States fails” Rep. Thompson differentiates between a career and purpose to life. “How do you find your life purpose?” said Rep. Thompson, “Get as much out of your education as possible… be a sponge and a life long learner.” And secondly, Rep. Thompson said” Pay attention, you’re going to see people do things that you will hopefully never want to do, those are meaningful observations, but you’ll also see things that you want to do and to time, that’s how you figure out your life purpose.”
Finally Rep. Thompson said “Avoid pitfalls, your friends are going to want you to make the same decision they make, they want you to step on than landmine in life, why? Because they’ll feel better if you fail as much as they fail but look for the good opportunities” Now in his Ninth year as a member of the House of Representatives, Rep. Thompson has sponsored Bills such as the Save American Workers Act of 2017, Fire Police Fairness Act, Common Sense Opportunities Act and the Community Health Investment, Modernization, and Excellence Act of 2017.

State System, APSCUF reach tentative agreement on new contract Ken Marshall Media Relations manager, PASSHE kmarshall@passhe.com Harrisburg – With more than eight months remaining on the current collective bargaining agreement between Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education and the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF), the parties have tentatively agreed to a new contract that would run through June 30, 2019. The tentative agreement, if approved, would take effect at the conclusion of the current contract, which expires June 30, 2018. “We have been committed to working together to achieve a new agreement in a collaborative manner,” said State System Interim Chancellor Dr. Karen M. Whitney. “As we move toward a positive conclusion for this contract, I’m hopeful it will lead to an even more meaningful relationship based on mutual respect and trust.” “After our previous contract negotiations, we were determined to improve the overall negotiations process, and I am happy to report that our communication with the System vastly improved with these talks,” said APSCUF
President Dr. Kenneth M. Mash. “We are happy that we were able to bypass the anxiety that has accompanied every previous contract negotiation in recent memory and that we can give our full attention to our students.” Details of the new agreement will be released upon ratification by the APSCUF membership and approval by the State System’s Board of Governors. Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education is the largest provider of higher education in the Commonwealth, enrolling more than 100,000 degree-seeking students and thousands more in certificate and other careerdevelopment programs. Collectively, the 14 universities that comprise the State System offer more than 2,300 degree and certificate programs in more than 530 academic areas. Nearly 520,000 State System university alumni live in Pennsylvania. The State System universities are Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and West Chester Universities of Pennsylvania. The universities also operate branch campuses in Oil City (Clarion), Freeport and Punxsutawney (IUP), and Clearfield (Lock Haven), and offer classes and programs at several regional centers, including the Dixon University Center in Harrisburg and in Center City in Philadelphia

Staff Writer jcs2355@lockhaven.edu Nearly 20 years ago, it was a miracle that humans could have music on a Walkman and listen on the go. In 2017, listening to music on the go has become an epidemic. Anywhere you look, especially on college campuses, headphones are in and heads are bobbing. Anyone with a smartphone has access to millions of songs right in their pocket. I personally have playlists of my favorite songs and listen that way. But, I can also search for new songs at any time to add to any of my playlists. Having access to millions of songs in your pocket is a privilege we often take for granted. Imagine if every time you wanted to listen to a new band you had to take out the tape/CD and put in a new one, which might not even work. To younger generations, that may seem like stone age technology. Thanks to this technology we can mix up artists and create playlists based on what we enjoy hearing. Everybody knows the popular songs because they’re constantly played in the media, but people typically have their own go-to playlist of music, on whatever app they use to jam. These top playlists are the music we listen to when no one else is around, no one to please or judge you, just you and your favorite melody. This is the music that will touch you, move you, maybe to the point of emotion, maybe toward peace. Whatever music you enjoy, you can find easily nowadays. Whatever mood you’re in, there’s a song that fits that mood, and that is the beautiful thing about music. Everybody is unique and we all enjoy hearing different music. Personally, I am a fan of just about any genre, it all depends on my mood. I love the fast beat and loud bass modern rap has to offer when I’m running, and when I’m relaxing I can go from alternative rock to reggae. I enjoy listening to a wide variety of music. But my favorite genre is indie-folk-rock. I love a good combination of a bright melody, soaring vocals, and the timber of a soft acoustic guitar. Netflix recently came out with a new Netflix original movie called “The Babysitter” and it is absolutely hilarious. Halloween is right around the corner and what better way to celebrate the great spooky holiday than to release a comedic horror story that can be totally relatable. It’s about a boy named Cole who just started high school and unfortunately still needs a babysitter because of his parents always worrying about him. Fortunately for Cole, his babysitter, Bee, is beyond stunning and has every guy hypnotized including him. One day, Cole’s best friend decides to taunt Cole to stay up after he’s supposed to go to bed to see what his beloved babysitter could be up to after hours. Cole complies and when that happens, he notices a group of Bee’s friends joined together in the act of murder. Satanic murder. They kill to fulfill the devil’s work so they can get anything they want. Through the journeys of Cole trying to get out of the house and away from the psychos that are trying to kill him before he can tell anyone about what he witnessed, there are a whole bunch of hilarious interjections in the movie pertaining to inappropriate jokes and acts. These jokes can only be portrayed by the best young comedians out there and some of the actors in this movie are amazing such as King Bach, Bella Thorne, Robbie Amell, and Hana Mae Lee. This movie was definitely a horror-comedy which is always a good combination in my opinion to create an appealing movie. The movie is definitely not age appropriate for kids under 16 because of horror graphics, inappropriate language, and sexual content. This movie makes for a great movie for all friends to get together and watch a hilarious movie that appeals to their sense of humor and the value of friendship itself. I loved how they used the concept of a babysitter being evil when really, they should be nurturing and loving towards the kids and in this movie, she ends up trying to kill the boy. On top of all of that, Bee and Cole were friends and to have a friend try to kill you is breaking trust for a kid that needs trust in his life. All in all, he takes it all pretty well and ends up kicking ass till the very end. I rate “The Babysitter” a definite 10/10 on the account that it made me almost die on my floor laughing and from the urges of watching the movie over and over again just to laugh.
Marc E. Bassy drops “Gossip Columns” Tanner Meeker
Arts & Entertainment Editor tjm1848@lockhaven.edu Marc Griffin, known professionally as Marc E. Bassy is an American singer and songwriter from San Francisco. His most popular piece of work was his lead single “You & Me” featuring G-Eazy from the album Groovy People released early May 2016. Before putting out his own works, he also wrote for artists such as Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla Sign, 2 Chainz, Chris Brown, CeeLo Green, Sean Kingston, and many more. Marc was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area where he and his mom rented from Tracy Chapman. During his teenage years, he moved to Mill Valley, CA and attended Tamalpais High School. After graduating, he went to UC Santa Cruz for music but only stayed there for two years until he found slight fame by being the lead singer of a band known as the 2AM Club. (continued on page 8)

Highly anticipated album expected to please fans
(continued from page 7) He moved to Los Angeles to work with his band but was ultimately dropped by its label Sony/ATV after only dropping one album and a mixtape. It was then that Marc decided stay in Los Angeles and live with a friend and write songs for other artists. After releasing “Only the Poets” and East Hollywood, Universal Republic Records took notice by quickly cementing a deal with Marc to give East Hollywood a proper commercial release on December 18, 2015. Obtaining this achievement was not an easy accomplishment though. When his band broke up in June 2015, Marc went on a spell of self-medicating and non-stop partying while binge reading his favorite author Charles Bukowski. Feeding this need to create is what got him back to writing music. But this time, he zeroed in on his sound and created a style of music that he had always been chasing. Now, Marc E. Bassy will be heading his first tour with 23 dates across the US alongside singer/songwriter Bebe Rexha, calling it “giving back season”, according to Billboards recent interview with him. Marc says, “I want my fans to understand that my music comes from a really personal place. I am not a part of any particular wave. And, because I am not a part of any particular wave, I am not a hypebeast. I just make authentically good music,” according to Billboard. And authentically good music it was. The anticipation for his album to drop was high due to his newest single “Plot Twist” making it clear that Marc was no one hit wonder. I have faith this album will gain Marc some serious respect in the music industry. Here are 5 of my favorites from the album that I think you should listen to: 1. “Plot Twist” (Remix) [featuring Hailee Steinfeld] After seeing on Hailee Steinfeld’s snapstory that she was listening to Plot Twist, Marc slid into her DMs and asked her if she wanted to be on the remix, kind of jokingly. But when she replied, “Are you serious?”, Marc responded with “Yeah I’m serious. Come through. Let’s do it!”. The actress/singer picked up on the vibe of the song quickly and killed it within only 3 takes. Hailey adds a female perspective to the song. If females liked singing the song before, but now it gives them a whole new part to sing. Hailey and Marc plan to add a music video to the song but since Hailee is filming a movie right now, they will have to wait until they get their schedules together, according to Billboard. Plot twist is about when a newly found love interest turns into something more serious than you thought. “I always thought it would only be one kiss. One became a hundred. Oh, all of a sudden, I’m saying, ‘I love you’.”, illustrates the shift from thinking something is casual with someone to something serious.
2. “Heroine” This song is about when things aren’t going right with your partner, but both of you know that the more you try to run away from each other the more you’re going to want each other, much like the addictive chemical hooks in heroine. This song is a slower and more acoustic song embroidered with unique bass guitar riffs. “Go get higher than you’ve ever been. She’ll be the one you should need in your life. You’re her hero, she’s your heroine. Love me like heroine,” displays the simile Marc uses to embody the addiction they have for each other’s love. 3. “So Simple” (featuring G-Eazy) G-Eazy and Marc E. Bassy have worked together on a song before, and this song is a testament to the fact that they work well together. This song is about a girl that Marc used to talk to telling him she didn’t want to have anything to do with him when he was broke living at his friend’s house in LA, but trying to get back into his life now since he found fame again. “So Simple” refers to the behavior of the girl only paying attention to him when he had fame but when he was at his low and needed her most, she didn’t want anything to do with him. 4. “Made Love First” (featuring Kehlani) Kehlani and Marc have been working together since very early in their careers, and have a mutual respect for each other that made this song such a dope listen. “She is such an extreme, extreme talent, and beauty. Anytime you’re around Kehlani, you get the warm fuzzies,” said Marc about Kehlani in the interview with Billboard. The song sort of speaks for itself, but the lyrics: “Before I knew your maiden name, or even had your picture framed, I knew your body told me things. But, s---, I shoulda picked your brain,” is a lyrically beautiful way to captivate the feeling of jumping the gun with someone. 5. “Til I Get Found” Last, but definitely not last, was my favorite song off the album. This song is a modern R&B lovers dream packed with rhythmic melodies that will dwell in your brain all day. This soon-to-be classic is about when a partner is leading you on, and you would rather them just end things with you rather than you wondering what’s going on. “If you love me baby, cut me off. Leave me high and dry. That’s my bridge to cross,” is Marc’s way of saying rip the bandaid off because it allows him to start recovering. Marc once admitted that he likes getting his heart broken, saying, “it makes you pick yourself off the floor and do better.” I think Marc E. Bassy really raised the bar for himself with this album. It is as lush and complex for repeated listens, and really shows Marc’s creativity as a rising artist in today’s industry.

until he was able to escape to Texas to start anew. Every poem that was read, met an emotional applause that sent many to their feet. With every story the audience became so entranced that no one dared to even for even a second. It was up until her recent years that Carrizosa found out that she was Afro-Latina, which inspired her ABC Me poem. She had a quick message for student on campus when I sat down to speak to her.
She described what it was like to grow up coming from a mixed house hold, where her mother was black and father was Mexican. She grew up in Houston, Texas and began writing from a young age, and then told viewers than went she was in school she use to get bullied for her hair. That this was the thing that gave her most problems when she was in school.
Kiara: what inspired you to write poetry?
Even while she was bullied she was writing and taking honor in her heritage, and for that she honors her mother for the hands that help shape her creativity. Her father who grew up in the south side of Mexico City left memories that last a life time. Carrizosa got most of her inspiration from her father and the stories he use to tell her when she was young. Natasha tells the tale of her fathers youth and what brought him to the U.S. and how his coming was because of a bounty on his head.
K: What would you tell other students of color that attend school here and they face adversity?
The poem that she read from her book Of Fire and Rain, detailed how Carrizosa father was faced with a cocked gun to his head form a dirty cop telling him, he needs to disappear. And the time of moving from place to place, staying with different women even living in the shadows
K: Thank you for coming to lhu, it was good to have you here. Do you think you would come back?
Carrizosa: “ I really believe its in my blood, both my mother and father are poets. For me it’s the best way to communicate. When I’m writing I’m at peace. I really am at peace when I’m doing this. This is me in my most truest form.”
C: “Be who you are make no apologies for it. Stay true to yourself it might not make sense Know but it will. Just know that it’s all going to make sense later. If you around people that you can’t be your self around, get from around them. Down keep them in your circle.”
C: “I enjoy my evening with you all. I think I’ll be coming back soon.”

How to pull an all nighter Derek Danneker
Editor-in-Chief ddd4907@lockhaven.edu Things are getting serious. It seems like your professors just got done with a meeting to exactly ruin your grade and self-esteem. All your assignments are due on nearly the same day, you’re trapped. You could pack your bags and go to your professors like a beat dog with a poor excuse about how your distant grandmother died, maybe teary eyed, definitely morose. But, you’re not like that, you’ve got the eye of the tiger, you’ve got moxy and you’re going to do the unthinkable. You’re going to pull an all-nighter. I’ve been there and I’ll give you some tips to make it out semi-conscious on the other end. Commit to it. Go make a full cup of coffee or buy anticipatory energy drinks. The sweet relief the sleep will beckon but caffeine will keep it at bay. Stay away from milk and warm blankets, they’ll be your downfall. Do not take a 5 minute nap, or rest your eyes, there is a job to do. Keep your eye on the prize. Play a favorite movie. To keep your mind active it is imperative to play a movie. Not a movie you’ve never seen or an action movie, you shouldn’t be enticed to actually look at it. Aim for a comedy or something comparable that you’ve seen before but not a movie that you’re tired of. You’ve bought the night, take some breaks. Give up the rush to finish early and sleep, enjoy the night. Hungry? toast a bagel, take a drive to sheetz. Treat yourself a bit, you’ve gained at least 8 hours. Admit that the impossible is being accomplished and try not to hate yourself for slacking off. Do not, under any circumstances, lay on your bed. I know it looks nice, I know you’ve got a kink in your back and a pounding headache from the lethal amount of caffeine you just ingested but you need to ignore that thing like your friend’s exgirlfriend, don’t even make eye contact. Keep on the move Is the place you’re sitting starting to feel a bit too comfy? Move on. Everyone is sleeping, the world is your playground. Go to the couch, to your desk, on the floor a bit, maybe under your bed, no one is awake to judge the weird places you’re studying. In the torrent of movement- moving maybe every thirty minutes to an hour- you will conquer the night.

The amazing wonders of studying abroad Mia Swales Staff Writer mxs3279@lockhaven.edu Who doesn’t want to travel and see the sites of the world I’m sure if you ask most they’ll tell you they want to travel and see the world. While traveling it seems that you can get so lost in the sites and the beauty of all of the little things. There’s so much to see in our world, it’s just not always necessarily easy to do so with the price of things and even having other priorities like work and school; although studying abroad is an option. Lock Haven gives us the opportunity to apply to places like: Morocco, Turkey, England, Ireland, Belgium, Spain, Germany, Mexico, Italy, Asia and so many other beautiful places. The Study Abroad International Studies office is in Ulmer welcoming and ready to help us all explore. Outside of studying abroad and school there is so many different places being promoted in various different ways Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook,Magazines etc. With technology evolving different cruises and so much more we become more aware of different places to go see and explore. Giving us the ability to say we did it and get in touch with different cultures and aspects of life. According to Forbes list there’s some places where your U.S dollars can go further than you’d think. In Budapest, Hungary $1 = 274.49 Hun-
garian forints “for under 20 dollars you can spend your afternoon at a spa.” Did you know you could take a train ride from NYC to Montreal Canada for $69? Once in Canada 1 U.S dollar = 1.34 in Canadian dollars. The difference in money is something I never truly thought about but it makes all the difference, ‘every penny counts.’ Forbes says some of the most beautiful sites to visit are The Blue Hole in Belize Antelope Canyon in Arizona The Crystal Cave in Mexico Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia The Giants Causeway in Ireland Kauai Hawaii Rainforest Rice fields of Longsheng China it’s important to get out and explore the world and the sites that have either been created by the people or created by Man. There’s truly so many options and beautiful sites to see within our lifetime.

It seems that every year, the same teams consistently stay in the AP top 25 Poll for their respective sports. Some schools only have one or two decent sports teams, while many schools have numerous teams that are very good at their programs. For example, Penn State is a huge football, wrestling, hockey, and women’s lacrosse school while schools like Temple are only known for basketball. However, there are sports programs that completely dominate across the board for vast spans of time. Here are my top college athletics programs at the moment: 1. Florida- Their baseball, softball, football, basketball, and swimming programs (just to name a few) have won several national championships in the millennium. The most recent being the Men’s College World Series in 2017. 2. Alabama- Their football program is the best in the nation and has continuously taken control of college football in the past decade. With 68 All-American football players in the program’s history, it is easy to see how they are the best. Alabama has won four national championships in the past nine years and barely lost another one to Clemson last year. Gymnastics, golf, and softball have won 7 combined national championships since 2000. 3.
Oklahoma- Whether it is football, gymnastics, or basketball, you will surely hear all about Oklahoma’s great teams.
4. Texas- With 23 championship titles, they have the most successful swimming team of all time. They also have great baseball, basketball, and a decent football team. 5. LSU- When someone thinks of LSU, they probably think of the women’s track team, which has won 25 national championships, and baseball, which has been to the College World Series eight times since 2000, including last year when they lost to Florida. But LSU has also been good at football, softball, and gymnastics, too.

Opinion Editor rab484@lockhaven.edu LHU- The t-shirts outside of Raub displayed inciteful awareness about Domestic Violence this week. It was obvious that students put their hearts and souls into making these shirts. Other students raised money for a Walk to End Alzheimer’s that will be in State College next week and raised money for Breast Cancer Awareness. LHU’s Sports and Fitness club raised money with “Hustling for Houston” for residents who were affected by Hurricane Harvey. Appalachian Mountains- A woman hiking the Appalachian Trail rescued a stranded chicken in the woods. Heather Bolint found a rooster just near the Mason-dixon line and carried him 42 miles in her jacket to safety, according to Arin Greenwood. Philadelphia- Eagles defenseman Chris Long is donating the rest of his 2017 salary to charity. Scott Stump from Today news said that Long’s base salary is $1 million dollars. D.C.- A congressman who got shot earlier this year threw out the first pitch of a Nationals’ baseball game. Steve Scalise was honored at the opening home game versus the Cubs on October 7th.

Five things to remember when you are an upperclassmen Dr. Conne Reece
Professor of Communication CReece@lockhaven.edu You are finally a junior or senior. You have worked hard for the past several years and you’re ready to begin your career. If you’re like the almost 2 million other students who will graduate in the U.S. in 2018, you are feeling some anxiety about getting a job. Don’t worry. You WILL get a job. But will it be the job you really want? At a Memorial Day picnic in 2015, a cousin of mine who had graduated that year said to me, “I sent out a bunch of résumés. Now I’m just waiting for call backs.” He won’t get the job he wants. He does not understand the basic principles of how job-getting works. By summer of 2016 he still did not have a job in his field. Below are five things you need to remember as you begin (or end) your senior year. Embracing these principles will guide you as you create your job search strategy over the coming months. 1. It takes 3 - 9 months on average for college grads to find jobs. Finding a job is hard work that can’t be left to chance, which leads to the next principle... 2. Analysis is critical. Those searching for jobs often make the mistake of thinking the job search is about them. It is mostly about potential employers and how you can fill a need they have. Knowing how to analyze what potential employers want and how you can market yourself is the key to finding employment. 3. If you don’t have it, get it. For the past 18 years, your relationship with your teachers has been that you are a vessel expecting them to fill you. That thought pattern for the most part has come to an end. You need to become your own teacher and seek opportunities that you haven’t had. If you find yourself saying, “They all want experience. How am I supposed to get it if they won’t hire me?” you are thinking about it wrong. You should be thinking, “They want experience. What kind of experience do they want? Where can I do an internship, job shadow, volunteer work or just work somewhere for free to gain experience?” Don’t have good writing or speaking skills? Get them. Analyze and educate yourself. Employers will expect you to fix your own deficiencies and broaden the positive skills you have already. 4. Leave your comfort zone... by a mile. My cousin won’t get a job because he hasn’t learned how to become a person rather than a piece of paper (or e-paper). Look up information on how to network. Follow up applications with phone calls. 5. Raise your standards. Soon-to-be grads sometimes think of themselves as college students. Begin to think of yourself as a young professional. While less-than-perfect work (even C- or D-level work) may have been fine in the past, no employer will pay you to do mediocre work. Indeed you may not even get hired if your job-search documents and communication skills aren’t top notch. Remember, you are rarely the only one applying for a job. Lock Haven University is a great school and you have a quality education. Use it to your advantage and you’ll have a job in no time.

Women’s Soccer drops matches to West Chester, IUP Alex Sklar Sports Editor aws1509@lockhaven.edu The Lock Haven’s women’s soccer team dropped a pair of hard fought home matches this past week. Lock Haven played host to West Chester University in a PSAC match on Sunday, October 15 and Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, October 18. The Bald Eagles, in their first match of the week against West Chester, battled all match long and ended up falling 2-1. West Chester took the lead on a goal in the 12th minute of the contest off a rebound by Jenny Bail for her fourth goal of the season. Then in the 32nd Lock Haven responded. The Haven tied the game when sophomore Erika Landis took a beautiful corner kick and put it right into the box, where senior Ella Jones controlled the ball and put it far post to beat the goalkeeper. Lock Haven and West Chester were tied 1-1 at the halftime whistle. In the second half West Chester out shot the Bald Eagles 9 to 1 (15 to 5 in the match). West Chester scored what wound up being the go-ahead goal in the 63rd minute of action. Taylor Jamison took a shot from about 30 yards out that banked off the post and snuck in the goal right past Lock Haven’s junior keeper, Bree Hilty. Hilty had four saves on the day for the Bald Eagles. Lock Haven created some opportunities late and pushed the ball into West Chester’s defensive zone, but West Chester clamped down and made some key plays when they needed to on defense. The final score was West Chester 2, Lock Haven 1. In the second game of the week, Lock Haven took on PSAC foe IUP. The Bald Eagles welcomed back sophomore Marah Foltz (pictured bottom right). Foltz made her first appearance of the season for the Haven after returning from an injury, coming on in the 26th minute. Last season Foltz was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division ll All-Atlantic Region Team after a stellar freshman campaign where she led the team in goals (6), assists (4), and shots on goal (27). The Haven showed tremendous effort throughout the match, with the defense only allowing a total of six shots with three being on goal. IUP scored the only goal of the match in the 34th minute, when Lexie Palluconi found the back of the net for the Crimson Hawks, her fifth goal of the season. The Haven continued to press on and search for the equalizer through IUP’s physical defense that committed 11 fouls in the match compared to LHU’s four. Senior midfielder, Leisha Noble (pictured top right) led the way for the attack, flying around all over the pitch trying to ignite the offense. The Crimson Hawks defense stood tall all afternoon, with the final score being 1-0, IUP. Lock Haven will travel to Mansfield this Saturday, October 21 to take on the Mansfield Mountaineers in a PSAC match that will begin at 1:30 p.m. The Bald Eagles will also play at Millersville University on Wednes-
day, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. before returning home for Senior Day to finish out their season. On Saturday, October 28 the Haven will host California University of Pennsylvania, on Senior Day at Hubert Jack Stadium. The match is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Lock Haven fends off East Stroudsburg on the road Doug Spatafore Sports Information Director dspatafo@lockhaven.edu The Lock Haven University volleyball team (10-11, 3-6 PSAC) was able to rebound from their loss to Kutztown last night (Friday, October 13) to get a quality win over East Stroudsburg (11-9, 2-7 PSAC) 3-0 (2927, 26-24, 25-23) on the road. The Bald Eagles and the Warriors played a very tight match overall, with all three being decided by only two points. Lock Haven was able to make the plays they needed to down the stretch to pick up the victory and grab their 10th win of the season. The Bald Eagle offense used their balance in their attacks, having three different players with double digit kills. Breanna McDonald (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) led the charge with her 12 kills. Chloe Williams (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Veronica Morrison (Sugar Run, Pa./ Wyalusing Valley) added 11 kills and 10 kills respectively. Shaye Whiteman (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) was the stalwart defensively for LHU, tallying 19 digs. Morrison also did a stellar job on defense for the Haven, tallying 11 digs and a block assist.
Kristen Nealon (Horsham, Pa./Archbishop Wood) continued her stellar season for Lock Haven. The conference leader in total assists tacked on 39 more, bringing her total on the year to 891. The Bald Eagles hit the road again for their next match a s the travel to Millersville on Friday, October 20. The first serve of that match is set for 7:00 pm.

Football looks to rebound; hosts Kutztown Jayson Moyer Managing Editor jpm362@lockhaven.edu Coming off a 34-21 defeat at Millersville, the Lock Haven University football team will return home and host Kutztown at Hubert Jack Stadium on Saturday at 1p.m. The Maurauders put up over 400 yards of total offense en-route to the victory, after jumping out to a 24-0 lead in the first half. Cam Tobias completed 13-19 passes for 117 yards, while adding 25 yards and a touchdown on the ground for the Bald Eagles (1-6,

1-3). Ralph Hyland rushed for 73 yards on 17 carries, while John Ford rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns. Again, the running game was the strong point for the Lock Haven offense. “There are obviously a lot of areas that we can improve upon,” said Lock Haven head coach Dave Taynor. “We are a little bit beat up, especially on the defensive side of the football. Next man up has to continue to improve.” Shyeim Brown led the Bald Eagles with 12 total tackles on de-
fense. Kutztown (5-2, 3-1) is fresh off a 41-9 win over East Stroudsburg in week seven. Quarterback Collin DiGalbo passed for 351 yards and four touchdowns in the win. He has now thrown for over 1,600 yards and 16 touchdowns this season. DiGalbo has also scored tour times on the ground this season. “The one area where we’ve maintained some health defensively has been the back end,” Taynor said. “It being one of their strengths is one of our strengths, as well. “They do a really good job running the football so we’ve got to improve upon where we were at last week and I think our guys are up to the challenge.” Craig Reynolds leads the Golden Bear backfield, rushing for 454 yards and four touchdowns on 104 carries. Reynolds is also Kutztown’s leading receiver with 27 receptions for 395 yards and five touchdowns. Kutztown took last year’s meeting 35-29 at Kutztown. “I was pleased with the end of the game (at Millersville),” said Taynor. ‘Cam Tobias came in and did a great job. “We are going to be a lot better as a football team when playing with the lead.”
