2 NEWS Red Oak Tree on campus scheduled to be taken down On Tuesday, students and faculty were informed via email that the Red Oak tree that stands at the edge of the University Commons is scheduled to be taken down.

The tree was found the morning of Sept. 27 with a large branch having split off. Originally, Lock Haven University’s tree contractor tried to reinforce the tree’s limbs with cabling. Unfortunately in the process, additional decay was found and the contracted company’s certified arborist advised the University that the tree is in a weakened state.

Sullivan Hall, an old administrative building which was located across the street from Bentley Hall, was demolished a few years earlier. Some speculate that the construction that occurred so close to the tree may have damaged it, though President Michael Fiorentino gave express instructions not to damage the tree.

Last time we talked to Joby Topper, Director of Stevenson Library, he

said that he believed from sorting through hundreds of old pictures that the Red Oak had been planted some time in 1915, making the tree roughly 102 years old. He speculated at the time that there had been some kind of fungal infection. After the revelations by the contractor, Topper said, ”Like everyone else, I’m sad to see it go. It’s a landmark but it’s sickly… it’s just too far gone.”

Lock Haven University Facilities Department has decided that the wood from the tree will be made available to a local artisan who has previously built pieces of furniture out of trees on campus. There is, however, growing support for a carving to be made out of the tree or some other way to commemorate the Red Oak, whose strong frame has majestically silhouetted the horizon of LHU’s Commons for over 100 years.

James Harkness, a senior Communications major, said, ”I think I’d like to see [a monument], as long as it doesn’t cost the university a ton of money, I wouldn’t want tuition to go up because of it.”

“Hopefully there would be something like a movement where we would mark the spot with a wooden sculpture,” said Topper.

“What matters is what the students say about it, if the students get together and enough of them say that this is what we should do, then it might happen.”

Phi Mu Zeta raises donations for Las Vegas shooting victims Derek Danneker

Editor-in-Chief ddd4907@lockhaven.edu Lock Haven University students felt the impact of the Las Vegas shooting as much as any. The brothers in the Mu Zeta Chapter of Phi Mu Delta decided to do something about it. On Oct. 10 the brothers gave out Hot Chocolate, Lemonade, Water and Hot Dogs, any donations would be given to the the Las Vegas shooting victim page on gofundme.

“We don’t like to be called a frat, we’re a fraternity. We’re here to better people, not have parties and get in trouble,” said Phillip Leonard, a senior Computer Science major as well as the sergeant of arms and member of the fundraising committee for Phi Mu Delta.

The fraternity has in the past raised $840 for Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, as well as $700 for a member of theirs who had a heart attack.

The Mu Zeta Chapter of Phi Mu Delta meets every Sunday at 6 p.m. in the Hall of Flags.

Wrestling holds outdoor practice to kick-off 2017-18 season Jayson Moyer Managing Editor jpm362@lockhaven.edu The Lock Haven University wrestling program held its first practice of the 2017-2018 season on Tues., Oct. 10 right outside of Stevenson Library.

This marked the third straight season in which the Bald Eagles have taken practice outdoors to get the season rolling, and is a great way for students, faculty, and the community to get an early glimpse of what to expect this season.

Lock Haven returns four national qualifiers from last season under head coach Scott Moore, who is now in his fifth year at the helm.

Last season, the Bald Eagles saw four members of the program compete at the NCAA Division I tournament in St. Louis: DJ Fehlman, Kyle Shoop, Ronnie Perry, and Thomas Haines.

“Midday Matness is nice way for guys to break into the season,” said Moore in an interview with golhu.com. “It’s a fun way to gain exposure, not only for Lock Haven wrestling, but for all of collegiate wrestling.”

Redshirt-junior Chance Marsteller will return this year for the Bald

Eagles and will certainly provide yet another spark on the roster. Marsteller and Haines are both four-time PIAA state champions.

Perry, in his senior season, has seen quite a bit of success during his time at Lock Haven. He has high ambitions for his senior season.

“The goal heading into my final season is the same as before,” Perry told golhu.com. “I want to be on the podium at nationals and finish as an AllAmerican.”

The wrestling program will host a season ticket holder social at Haywood’s on the Green on Thurs., Oct. 12 from 6:30p.m. to 8p.m.

The season officially gets underway on Sun., Nov. 5 at the Clarion Open.

“The coaching staff is very excited about the upcoming season and thrilled that it’s finally underway,” Moore told golhu.com.

“We return a lot of guys who should provide great veteran leadership.”

New comedy show on Netflix Kiara Carson

Staff Writer knc9459@lockhaven.edu “Big Mouth” is a new comedic series recently added on Netflix about five friends going through the few stages of puberty we all go through from a male perspective and a female perspective. There’s Nick, Andrew, Jay, Jessi, and Missy who all go through the changes of becoming teenagers. To help them go through these changes are hormone monsters which explain every step of puberty to the children and get in touch with how they feel about the new experiences. Maurice is the male hormone monster who mostly interacts with Andrew, but sometimes talks to Nick, and almost never interacts with Jay because he already knows too much. Connie is the female hormone monster who starts off talking with Jessi when she finally starts going through menstruation and starts interacting with Missy when she starts intimately interacting with Andrew. The hormone monsters are a huge part of the show because they go through every emotion the kids

should start feeling when they hit puberty such as anger, sadness, sexual confusion, and jealousy. They also explain what happens with the children’s bodies when they start to change especially with size of intimate parts and sexual feelings which is a subject discussed a lot about because even though it’s a show talking about kids, it’s a very adult show. For example, they show a lot of explicit scenes that include sex, masturbation, sexual exploration, and illegal activities. If you were to watch this show, I would highly recommend not watching in front of kids under the age of 16 and to never watch outload because you’ll never know what’ll come up unless you’re in private. Other than that, I give “Big Mouth” a solid 9/10 because of how funny and relatable it can be and it doesn’t sugarcoat anything for these children going through the change.

Eminem releases freestyle rap video putting Trump on blast

Arts & Entertainment Editor tjm1848@lockhaven.edu Rapper Eminem slammed President Trump in what is believed to be the boldest attack against Donald Trump in hip-hop. The 4 and a half minute video premiered at the BET awards Tuesday night. The video is titled “The Storm” in response to Trump calling his photo opportunity with military staff last week the calm before the storm. When asked several times what he was referring to as “the storm”, Trump finally responded, “You’ll see.”

The rapper called out Trump for not doing enough about the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, NC, questioned the President's humanism for ignoring the people suffering in Puerto Rico, issued a passionate tribute to Colin Kaepernick, and drew a line between him and his fans who call themselves Trump supporters.

In case you missed it, here are some of the most explosive lines from the video: 1. ‘All these horrible tragedies and he’s bored and would rather cause a Twitter storm’

Eminem calls his tweets about the NFL players kneeling during the national anthem a form of distraction, so that we focus on that instead of talking about important things like what is happening in Puerto Rico and the gun control laws following the mass shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada.

2. ‘Who’s going to pay for his extravagant trips’

This is directly discussing Trump and Pence’s PR stunt where Pence flew from Las Vegas to Indianapolis for the Colts game, and then back to Los Angeles after leaving the game when the players all knelt for the national anthem, all while spending $242.500 in taxpayer money. It didn’t take long for Trump to claim credit for the walkout by tweeting that he told Mike Pence to leave the stadium if any players disrespected the flag or the anthem, as if they didn’t know that was going to happen anyway.

Trump even issued a statement last month claiming that he wanted to lower taxes, but that will mean less money for him to fly to and from his several golf courses and mansions.

3. ‘To him, you’re zero cause he don’t like his war heroes captured’

This line refers to when Trump attacked Arizona Sen. John McCain, who spent five years as a prisoner during the Vietnam War. In 2015, Trump questioned whether or not John McCain could be considered a war hero since he got captured stating, “I like people that weren’t captured, OK?” 4. ‘F--- that, this is for Colin, ball up a fist and keep that s--- bald like Donald the b----’

Eminem is showing respect to Colin Kapernick in this line. Kaepernick then tweeted at Eminem saying “I appreciate you” with the raised fist emoji. Kaepernick is now a free agent in the NFL after being the first one to kneel during the national anthem in an attempt to protest police brutality and racism.

I especially like the play on words Eminem crafted here, by using the word ball to refer to the balled up fists that symbolize the protesting, then using what sounds like the word ball in its past tense but actually saying the word “bald” to describe Trump actual status of his hair growth.

5. ‘And any fan of mine, who’s a supporter of his. I’m drawing in the sand a line. You’re either for or against. And if you can’t decide who you like more and you’re split on who you should stand beside, I’ll do it for you with this: F--- you!’

This is where he lays it all out on the line, telling his fans that you can’t be for Trump if you say you’re a fan of Eminem. He then follows by saying that “We love our military, and we love our country, but we f----ing hate Trump!”

I can’t help but appreciate and respect what Eminem did by putting his career on the line like that, but I think that other artists and athletes should take note and do something similar. People love saying that artists and athletes make millions for essentially doing nothing in value, but if these artists are using their platform for the betterment of our country, then that is a very valuable and heroic act to me.

Former reality TV star’s PR stunt aims to shed awareness on male suicide this mental health Tanner Meeker

Arts & Entertainment Editor tjm1848@lockhaven.edu If you don’t know who Chris Hughes is, he found fame on the British reality TV show “Love Island” where he finished third alongside current girlfriend Olivia Attood. Since leaving the show, Hughes has been in high demand of the media with interviews, autograph signings, and even produced a single “Little Bit Leave It”, that topped iTunes and Spotify charts. The Sun News reported that Hughes was able to charge up to £3,000 per hour for personal appearances at clubs and events.

We are used to seeing most former reality TV stars using their fame to create a personal brand for themselves in hopes to reach the spotlight and catapult their career while in its early stages, so many were not surprised this Monday when Chris Hughes told his Twitter fans that he had recently partnered with Topman, a mens fashion business, and was launching his own bottled water. But this was not just any bottled water, this bottled water was infused with a single drop of one of Chris Hughes’ tears. "It's a chance for me to give something special back to those who have supported me since returning from the island," Hughes told told Radio Times.

The water is named L’eau De Chris, (which translated from French means “the water of Chris”), and is being advertised as “Premium mineral still water infused with a tear sourced from Chris Hughes”. The promotion video features Hughes himself, barely clothed, with a tear

rolling down his face and then dropping into a bottle. Many fans were disgusted at the idea, while others lined up at Topman stores waiting to see if they could buy one.

But those fans’ dreams of buying the water were quickly shattered Tuesday when Chris Hughes revealed that the whole thing was just a stunt performed to encourage men not to bottle up their emotions in honor of World Mental Health day. He then released another video calling L’eau de Chris “ludicrous”, and also calling it “ludicrous” that men bottle up their feelings, and “ludicrous” that suicide is the biggest cause of death in men under 45.

Hughes paired with C.A.L.M. as an ambassador, a male suicide prevention charity that stands for Campaign Against Living Miserably. C.A.L.M. and Topman launched the campaign with the hashtag #DontBottleItUp in an attempt to show men just how ludicrous it is to bottle up their emotions, as Hughes did in this PR stunt. The stunt was designed to illustrate the fact that 84 percent of men bottle up their emotions instead of talking about them with someone.

So remember guys, do what you have to do to open up, just #DontBottleItUp.

The benefits of maintain a healthy workout routine

Everyone knows that exercise is an important part of health, even though actually exercising is sometimes the last thing on your to-do list.

Everyone should maintain keeping up a healthy workout routine. Of course everyone wants to look good when summertime comes around but there are more benefits to working out than just looking hot in your swim suit.

The benefits include prevention of chronic disease, stress relief, and healthier bones and joints, to name a few. Life in general can be busy alone without adding in school work, leading many students to forgo exercising due to time restraints. When time is a factor the question is asked, “How much exercise is necessary to stay healthy?”

The answer is not as much as some may think.

Cardiovascular training is often first to come to mind when the word “exercise” is brought up. This can involve anything that increases breathing and heart rate for a period of time.

Training your cardiovascular system can have several benefits. Weight loss is most often the most popular benefit. Some other benefits include prevention of heart disease and type II diabetes, stronger bones and joints, and higher quality sleep at night.

How much cardiovascular conditioning is necessary to reap these benefits? According to the Mayo Clinic, 150 minutes of moderate activity a week or 75 minutes of vigorous activity a week is all that is required.

Cardio exercise should be spread throughout the week, such as 5 days of 30 minutes as recommended by the American Heart Association.

Moderate activity is really anything that causes the body to move more than normal, such as walking at a fast pace. Vigorous activity can be running, swimming, or anything that causes a normal conversation to be short and choppy due to an increased breathing rate.

Strength training is also a vital part of exercising. Even the American Heart Association recommends 2 days of strength training a week.

This kind of activity is vital for bone and joint health, and it is also important for weight loss because it revs up the metabolism.

The Mayo Clinic recommends 12 to 15 repetitions of each exercise when building strength. Also, flexibility should be included in any strength program according to the Harvard School of Public Health. Flexibility combined with strength training keeps muscles, bones, and joints in top health, which will become increasingly important as life progresses.

All of this is probably starting to sound like a lot. What it boils down to is around 30-45 minutes of exercise a day, five days a week. Each session can include 20-30 minutes of moderate to vigorous cardiovascular training and 15-20 minutes of strength and flexibility training. That is less than 4% of your total day. This short amount of time, combined with a good diet, will set the base for a healthy lifestyle.

Staff writer mxs3279@lockhaven.edu Stress is inevitable especially while being in college and thinking you’re supposed to have your whole entire life mapped out.

According to Everyday Health when you workout your body releases endorphins the hormones that fight stress. Which is the reason why so many use working out as a stress reliever. Working out does just that, fights the negative energy bottled up in stress.

There are many tactics that could be used to battle stress, painting, writing, drawing, music, dancing, being with family and or friends, traveling, cooking and so many other things but below are some physical activities/ tips to get your endorphins going and stress gone: -Aerobics -Meditation and Deep breathing -Be aware -Yoga -Pilates -Zumba -Martial Arts -Kickboxing I once took a yoga class and it was the most rejuvenating thing I’ve ever done, you really do get in touch with yourself in the moments of namaste.

Other ways besides working out and being aware of oneself and ones limits Everyday Health says it’s important to: -Get enough sleep -Eat well -Breathe -Have good emotional support -Believe in yourself For me personally, I have discovered that out of all the things listed above if I just take at least 20 minutes to think about everything it’s a good way to unwind. It gives me time to take in the good and the bad of any and everything take it n and get rid of it all in the same instance. I also surround myself with nothing but uplifting people I am a firm believer that you become who you surround yourself with. Good vibes is essential to everyday life. I have also learned with being in college especially if I count myself out then I will be out, if I tell myself I’m going to fail than I will. So, I try to believe in myself, after all we speak things into existence the bad and the good.

Stress is inevitable and apart of life but it can be manageable enjoy the ride, believe in yourself, relax, take time for yourself and don’t give up.

In college stress can come from a variety of sources such as trying to keep grades up, working on projects, or from financial difficulties. Too much stress can adversely affect life and health, therefore, stress reduction techniques are important. Many people turn to unhealthy stress reduction techniques, such as tobacco, when life gets difficult. There are much healthier options than this that cost practically nothing, many that involve a simple change of mind set.

When stress hits hard, it is always beneficial to have a support network, according to the American Heart Association. Social interactions with friends and family are a way to keep the burden of stress to a minimum. Another recommendation from the AHA is daily exercise as a stress reducer. Planning ahead and staying organized can also help fight out future stress. Finding a stress trigger and planning a way to manage it in the future will set you up for success when the stressor hits.

Mind set can play one of the largest roles in reducing stress. Realizing that some things are just out of your control is vital in keeping stress to a minimum. Do not fret the small things and do not get upset about situations that are outside your control. Finding a positive in every situation, even if it is a small positive, can also reduce stress.

Finding small victories in everything you do will bring about personal resilience in many situations. Finally, even when everything seems to be out of your control, you can still control your reaction. If you react poorly to stress it will only cause more stress, a sort of positive feedback cycle. Reacting in a healthy positive manner is completely under your control, and your control alone.

As stress comes about from your job, school work, or finances, remember these simple techniques and mind sets.

Get into a habit of finding small victories and controlling your reactions to stressful situations. Find stress triggers and plan for them to allow yourself to experience as little stress as possible. Using these tips can largely decrease the amount of stress in your life and make it more enjoyable.

Art therapy: A great stress reliever

Staff writer mxs3279@lockhaven.edu How we choose to define art is different for everyone. Each perspective helps many relieve themselves from the stresses of everyday life. These different art forms are apart of our everyday life and are great forms of therapy for many that need ways to let go of stress. Art does many things for everyone and also lends a hand to helping us focus mixed energy into something positive.

Art can be whatever you perceive it to be. Some may think that art is just a painting or a photograph but art is music, writing, drawing, painting, dancing, theatre, photographs, sculptures, architecture and many other things down to the simplicity and complexity of life.

Georgia O’Keffee said,”I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.” Just as some may play sports to release stress some create art to do the same.

About a year or two ago adult coloring was a big boom it was a considered to be a stress reliever you hone in on the colors and the lines that run close together. Adult coloring was a way to relax just as some knit and make quilts to relax and minimize stress.

According to Yumi Hogan with U.S News and University of Maryland’s Children Hospital art therapy is becoming a better way for patients to cope with eternal life threatening diseases, autism, cancer and so many other illnesses and diseases. Yumi told U.S news that she has witnessed that while patients are drawing and coloring they aren’t thinking about their illness or the IV in their arm. Yumi said, “by using the creative process they have a non-verbal way of discussing it.”

Art is a form of expression and a way of comforting releasing stress and minimizing stress at the same time. Art is however you perceive it, it carries the weight of the world and the bigger picture of life. Connecting one thing to another. Trees to words, music to the art of dancing, a photograph to a replica in a panting. Art is what you want it to be.

Not all Muslims: Terrorists can be white, too Roxanne Aretta Opinion Editor rab484@lockhavenedu

Whenever major shootings happen in our country, the first thing that comes to mind for many is “was it a terrorist attack” or “was the shooter Muslim.” Since 9/11, many Americans have been programmed to think this way.

I know I have. I don’t even remember 9/11 in the slightest bit. But I do remember that throughout my childhood and adolescence, I was taught through school and television that while all Muslims are not terrorists, all terrorists are Muslim.

But there should not be that much of an emphasism on associating Islam and terrorism in the first place because Muslims are not the only ones who commit terrorism. Nor should we believe that any mass murderer who is not Muslim is not a terrrorist.

“But Muslims did 9/11, the Orlando shooting, and the Boston Marathon Bombing.”

Yes, this is (sort of) true, but these were not true Muslims. The Koran condones murder of any sort. Allah, or the Arabic name for the same God in Christianity, considers murder a sin which must be avoided in order to cleanse oneself. Islam is based around the term “jihad”, or the idea that one must break free from the struggle of sin within themselves.

Because of this, murdering innocent

people “in the name of Allah” completely contradicts the teachings of Muhammad, the prophet of Islam.The terrorists who completed such devastating acts to our nation were also radical. Extremists of any sort are typically too blinded by their beliefs to realize right from wrong.

Last week, Las Vegas was host to the biggest mass shooting in American history, committed by 64 year-old Stephen Paddock. The police are still not

sure what Paddock’s motives were after investigating over 1000 leads, according to CNN. Out of these 1000 leads, it boggles my mind that terrorism is not even considered According to the FBI, terrorism is defined as “the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in futerance of political or social objectiuves.” To me,

anyone who commits the largest mass shooting in history is a terrorist. But that is not legally the case since Paddock’s objectives are still unknown.

However, even if it is found out that Paddock did commit an act of terrrorism, it still would not be as huge of a deal compared to a Muslim extremist committing the act. It seems that America tends to forget terrrorism done by anyone who is not Muslim.

For instance, I never even knew that a Christian terrorist set a bomb at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games until I researched it for a class (and I probably would not have known anything about it all if the research was not about Christian terrorism). Eric Rudolph killed two people and wounded over 100 others in Atlanta. In 2012, with the Milwaukee Sikh shooting that killed six people, I barely heard Christian and Army veteran Wade Michael Page’s name circulate the news. With both of these attacks, the terrorists were also singled out and separated from Christianity, even though their religion is what motivated them to cause harm in the first place.

Christians should be held accountable for their acts of violence. Not all Christians are good people. Not all terrorists are Muslim. Huffington Post staff writer said, “Most of Anerica’s terrorists are white, and not Muslim.”

OPINION A letter to the Editor: An edifying conclusion Derek Danneker

I trust this finds you most well. I read your articles in the Eagle Eye about the KKK member; both the interview and your opinion piece. Both were well written. With minimum editorializing, you allowed the klansman to talk and we really get to hear the garbage coming out of his mouth about all the non-white, non-Christian people, in his own voice.

But reading the interview distressed me. Because it made me wonder who the audience of the interview was. Those of us who understand this garbage for what it is will obviously feel disgusted that there are men like these in 2017 saying these kinds of things about fellow human beings. On the other hand, there are those who actually think such thoughts and speak such things and act upon those beliefs who will probably get a kick out of reading this interview. And that thought distressed me.

I might be in the minority here, but I wonder whether these folks deserve a public platform such as a university newspaper to air their views? I am thinking from the position of someone who is black, Jewish or Muslim—the three groups he vilified during the course of his interview. Even the most peaceful and evolved person amongst us would probably feel a twinge of discomfort and sadness to have this kind of language heaped on our head in public. I know that you and the Eagle Eye do not subscribe to these views. Your op ed piece indeed offers a critique of such garbage views. But I do wonder about the larger audience of the interview and the responses it will evoke on both sides. As a journalist, what are your thoughts on this concern I have expressed here?

Thanks for your thoughts. The issue you raise is one that I had already thought of. I didn’t take this task lightly, In fact I wrote the disclaimer before I had even written the article itself.

I do think the KKK deserves a public platform, paradoxically, because I care about the minority populations. If an individual who is Muslim, Jew, Black (etc., he hated a lot of people) leaves university with the sense that there will be no one who attacks them for who they are or as they see themselves as, the university has failed them. That was the reason I did as little editorializing as I could In the news article. I wanted people to see the man’s ideas, realize that they are flawed and easy to dismantle, so that when a minority students encounters bigotry of this nature, they can fight it.

Secondly, when we collectively keep the KKK in the dark we give them undeserved power. The KKK is like a shirt tossed over a chair, when the light is off it may look like a monster but when the light is flipped on, you’re embarrassed to be so afraid. My point is that if the views of the KKK are allowed to enter the marketplace of ideas, where facts and valid arguments are allowed to combat them, the KKK’s views will evaporate.

To your point about readers who might be encouraged in their racist ideas. I certainly have confidence in the student body, that those who value reason and evidence will see anyone espousing the views of the KKK as holding an empty sack. The purpose of the disclaimer, objectivity of the news article and the critique in my opinions article was to separate the klansman’s ideas as far from those of the Eagle Eye as I could. If an individual holding racist ideas- and is also living in a bubble- realizes that they are not alone in their views, then that is the price to pay for allowing racist ideas to be dismantled by others.

Thank you for your excellent response to my question. You have articulated a rather wonderful philosophy well—something that I had not thought of quite in the same manner. If I understand you correctly, you have stated that the benefits of publishing these kinds of shifty ideologies far outweigh the cost. I sort of intuitively want to believe it, and your clear articulation of this cost-benefit analysis is compelling to me. Thank you for your clear articulation of such a position.

If possible, yes, please publish my initial email query to you, your response email to me, and this my final response to you. Please publish all three together. Because this is an exchange with an edifying conclusion. Thank you for your excellent response. I look forward to reading more of your articles in the future.

Wrestling holds annual “Midday Matness”; Brings in new season Alex Sklar Sports Editor aws1509@lockhaven.edu

The Lock Haven University Wrestling team brought in the new season by holding their first official practice on Tues., Oct. 10 outdoors, right in the middle of Lock Haven’s campus. “Midday Matness” is what they call it here in Mat-Town U.S.A. This years rendition couldn’t have been held on a better day, with this early fall season bringing warm weather.

In an interview with Golhu.com fifth year head coach Scott Moore shared his thoughts for the upcoming season; “The coaching staff is very excited about the upcoming season and thrilled that it’s finally underway. We return a lot of guys who should provide great veteran leadership. I’m also looking forward to seeing how some of our talented newcomers and underclassmen adapt, and mix into the lineup. It’s another strong schedule with some fun home matches and tournaments in store. It should be a good test, but our guys are putting in the work and will be ready for big things this season.”

The Haven is poised for a strong season. Lock Haven returns all four of its national qualifiers: Redshirt sophomore’s DJ Felhman (133 pound weight class) and Kyle Shoop (141). Redshirt senior Ronnie Perry (149) and redshirt junior Thomas Haines (285).

Lock Haven also will see the returns of redshirt sophomore Corey Hazel (174) and redshirt junior’s Tristan Sponsellar (197) and Chance Marsteller (165) to bolster the line-up even further.

Lock Haven boasts a lineup that features two wrestlers in Haines and Marstellar who both were four-time Pennsylvania State Champions. Marstellar went undefeated in high school boasting a record of 166-0. In an interview by Golhu.com, Marstellar said on his return;

Field Hockey returns home; Set to host Richmond and Lehigh Alex Sklar Sports Editor aws1509@lockhaven.edu After picking up a 4-0 victory over Saint Louis University on Fri.,Oct. 6. The Lock Haven Field Hockey team returns home this weekend to Charlotte E. Smith Field. On Fri., Oct. 13 they will host Richmond University in an A-10 matchup and then on Sat., Oct. 14 they will play host to Lehigh University.

In Saint Louis. The Bald Eagles dominated the Billikens in an A-10 matchup.

In the first half Lock Haven got on the board early, scoring in the third minute of the game, with a goal coming from senior Michele Enck.

Lock Haven continued to lead 1-0 throughout the first half while redshirt senior goalie, Paige Stuppy made three of her four saves on the day. Right before the halftime whistle sounded, LHU scored for the second time, making the score 2-0 at half. The goal coming again from Enck, her second of the game and third of the season.

The Bald Eagles came out in the second half and put the game away.

LHU’s Tamia Roach (junior) scored in the 48th minute and again in 50th minute to give Lock Haven a commanding lead of 4-0.

Lock Haven continued to dominate the game and secured their third shut out of the season, defeating the Billikens 4-0. LHU out shot the Billikens 16 to 10. With 10 of LHU’s shots coming on goal, while Saint Louis only managed four.

The two goals from Roach gave her eight on the season. Freshman Tia Judy also had a solid day, adding three assists for the Bald Eagles.

The win over Saint Louis brought the Haven’s record to (8-5) overall on the season and (3-3) in A-10 play.

The Bald Eagles matchup with Richmond University is slated for a 3 p.m. start time on Friday. This contest could play to be a pivotal contest for Lock Haven in the A-10 standings. Currently LHU is sixth in the A-10 standings, a win for Lock Haven over Richmond would give the Spiders (4-9, 3-1 A-10) another A-10 loss, giving LHU the ability as the season winds down to improve their playoff position and move up in the standings.

Lock Haven’s non-conference contest with Lehigh the following day is set for a 1 p.m. start time. Lehigh is (3-9) on the season. The Bald Eagles have an all-time record of (8-1) while squaring off with Lehigh.

Football runs away from Cheyney; Earns first win of season Jayson Moyer Managing Editor jpm362@lockhaven.edu Lock Haven University head football coach Dave Taynor has been harping on being able to capitalize off of turnovers and take advantage of opportunities that the Bald Eagles have missed out on this season.

Led by a powerful rushing attack, Lock Haven downed Cheyney 62-0, marking the second highest point total in school history.

However, Taynor’s squad wasted no time in carrying out his mantra, as Carlos Balkcom picked off Cheyney quarterback Dominick Trautz’s pass on the second play from scrimmage.

With great field position, true-freshman quarterback rushed for 24 yards and a touchdown in a five play touchdown drive for Lock Haven.

Knight was making his second career start, as quarterback Jimmy Strickland was ruled out of Saturday’s game due to a foot injury.

“We played good complementary football,” said Taynor. “That was the goal -- to keep relentless tempo and win the game with the guys up front.”

After forcing a three and out, Knight rushed for a 33 yard score on Lock Haven’s very next drive, putting the Bald Eagles up 14-0 nearly five minutes into the first quarter.

Knight would end up rushing for 181 yards and

four touchdowns on the afternoon.

“I can’t just run around and throw to a wide open receiver,” said Knight when asked about the adjustment he had to make between the high school and college games.

“Coach Taynor has taught me you have to read every single defender, and that’s where I’m at in my process. Just learning, learning -- each week -- and getting better.”

The Lock Haven backfield rushed for a school-record 460 yards.

Corey Blakey added 122 yards and a touchdown on nine carries, John Ford rushed for 93 yards and a score, while Ralph Hyland added 66 yards.

“We ran the ball very physically,” Taynor said.

It has been one of our strengths throughout the year.”

Cameron Tobias, who was Lock Haven’s starting quarterback at the beginning of the season, also saw time as Lock Haven continued to use a two-quarterback system. Taynor spoke highly of Tobias and his leadership.

“What Cam is doing as a redshirt-junior, he’s a leader on this team, and he’s helping bring Kyle along,” Taynor remarked.

Tobias hooked up with Tavian Dorsey for a 22 yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Another positive takeaway from Saturday is the Lock Haven defense. On top of pitching a shutout, the defense came away with two touchdowns.

With 13:01 to go in the third quarter, Dontae Mason recovered a fumble and took it 19 yards to the endzone. Just under 10 minutes later, Corey Balckom, who had a spectacular day defensively, had a 50 yard interception for a touchdown.

Lock Haven will travel to Millersville on Saturday for a 2p.m. kickoff. “”Ultimately, we did what we were supposed to do,” said Taynor.

“We’ve got to get in tomorrow and we have to improve. We’re 1-0 today, but tomorrow we’re back to 0-0.”
