NEWS Alumni to speak at Communication majors meeting

Guest Writer kld8928@lockhaven.edu Four Lock Haven University alumni are returning to share their success stories at the Communication majors’ meeting on Thursday, April 12 at 6 p.m. in the Parson’s Union Building, Room 2. They will also serve as panelists for a question and answer session with students.

Among the panelists is John Vitale, the current assistant director of engagement at LHU. Vitale graduated from LHU in 2013 at the top of his class and won the Communication Program’s Rebecca Gross Scholarship.

“Follow the money,” Vitale said. “and eventually you’ll find something you’re good at that pays you how

much you feel you’re worth.”

Vitale had numerous jobs after graduation, which included designing training materials for a window manufacturer, sports reporting and broadcasting, advertising sales and media buying. Most recently Vitale left his job at Sage Age Strategies as the Director of Media and Public Relations to return “home” to work at LHU. Also speaking at the majors’ meeting are: Brandie Kessler, reporter with the York Daily Record; Erin English, Client Success Representative/Real Estate Sales Rep at Centre Daily Times; and Samantha Hendershot, Senior Producer/Producer at ABC27 News Daybreak.

Celebrating Women at ”Let Her Voice Be Heard“ Catherine Brown

Staff Writer cvb5480@lockhaven.edu For the last dozen years, at the end of March, the English Club, Sigma Tau Delta, and the President’s Commission on the Status of Women, hold an event called Let Her Voice Be Heard to celebrate the end of Women’s History Month.

Students and professors of any gender and major may volunteer to perform something written a woman they admire, be that women a well-known

author, or a fellow student. Poems, book excerpts, and songs are selected and showcased at Avenue 209 while the audience enjoys complimentary treats supplied by the professors who graciously plan, emcee, and perform in the event.

Let Her Voice Be Heard also provides the opportunity for students receiving awards to be recognized. Morgan Petrencsik, an English major at Lock Haven, was chosen to be the student member on the President’s Committee on the Status of Women this year, and assisted in choosing a group of students to be nominated for the President’s Award for Distinguished Work in the Advancement of Women’s Issues.

Petrencsik, a two-time student performer this year, and women’s rights activist, commented on the importance of the event for her, “it showcases pieces of art that are created by women, whether they be famous authors or poets, or if they are Lock Haven University’s own amazing female students and faculty.” Petrencsik chose to perform her own piece last year, “it was during a political climate that wasn’t so friendly towards women…I hope people walk away from the event feeling empowered. I hope they listen carefully to what these women are saying and go out and do something to change the way society treats women.”

Student art show now on display

Editor-in-Chief ddd4907@lockhaven.edu The student art show opened and a reception was held Wednesday in Sloan Hall.

Ron Lambert, assistant professor at Bloomsburg University juried the event.

Lambert works mainly in sculpture and video. He received his MFA from the School of Art and Design at Alfred University, and his BFA from the University of Connecticut.

Danielle Sander, a senior art major, won best in show with her peice. “its very exciting,”said Sander.

Sander explained that many of her peices involve brighter color pallettes. Although she won “best in show,” she feels like a lot of her art can be cartoonish, which is something she’d like to work on.

“I feel like this year we had a lot more work put into it there were a lot more entries,”said Amber Jackson, a junior early education and art major.“I think it’s great that the school hosts the art show because students don’t always know how to start entering contests.”

Art pieces can be viewed in the Sloan Fine Arts Gallery, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. until April 20.

Philosophy professor speaks on new book Derek Danneker

Editor-in-Chief ddd4907@lockhaven.edu Daniel Shaw, author and retiring professor of philosophy at LHU, hosted a discussion on his newest book “Movies with Meaning, Existentialism through Film,” Wednesday in Stevenson Library.

Shaw has published three books other books in the last decade, including “Film and Philosophy: Taking Movies Seriously, Morality” and the “Movies: Reading ethics through Film.”

Though all his books are compilations of what he has taught at LHU, Shaw says his most recent is “nearest and dearest” to his heart because he is an existentialist, himself.

“Existentialism is a philosophical move-

ment that focuses on the question “What is the meaning of life,”said Shaw. “Readers will come away from the book with an appreciation of the variety of answers to this question that have been posed in the 19th and 20th centuries of Western thought.”

Shaw explains that throughout the 12 philosophers he discusses in the book, “Movies with Meaning,” each has a different answer to the question of meaning. Ranging from Kierkegaard and his faith in God to Camus and his absurdist nihilism, which denies there is any meaning.

Shaw says he started majoring in philosophy after reading Friedrich Nietzsche’s “Beyond Good and Evil.” Shaw found that not only Nietzsche, but all other existentialist philosophers wrote about deeply meaningful topics and has contributed to how Shaw views life and how to make it meaningful.

As my teaching career is about to end, I am satisfied that I have recorded some of my deepest insights. I have long believed that you cannot truly understand something if you cannot teach it. My understanding has been greatly expanded by being a Professor here at LHU,”said Shaw.

Evannah Phan Arts and Entertainment Editor Etp7162@lockhaven.edu Morgan Beatty, a current junior at Lock Haven University will be this week’s student feature at Talent at the Haven. Beatty hails from Erie, Pennsylvania and is currently a Business Administration major with a specific concentration in Economics and Finance. She is also concurrently pursuing a minor in Psychology. During her time at Lock Haven University, she stays on top of her Business Administration course load as well as actively participates in the University Players and the Outing Club.

Beatty is the director of this year’s 5th annual student cabaret which will take place April 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sloan Auditorium. She has always been someone who was on stage and performing. This time around, she is taking on a new role as a director so she can get adequate training. She hopes to direct a full show in the fall of 2018.

Beatty said that her new role as a director has come with many worthwhile lessons and is something that she really enjoys. She credits her strong organizational and leadership skills in helping her direct this year’s cabaret. She hopes the audience will experience a well-prepared performance.

Beatty notes that it has been very rewarding to see her cast improve over the time period that she has been working with them.

She is a firm believer that directing is meant to have a good balance between fun, hard work, tenacity, and organization. The cabaret is intended to be a production where people can hone their own talents and crafts to showcase them to the university. Beatty said it’s important for everyone in the cast as well as the audience to enjoy their time with the show.

Beatty says she really values individuality and uniqueness when it comes to productions. It is important to her that she helps highlight everyone’s special talents. In Beatty’s senior year of high school, she had two new directors whom she had previously known from a theater in her local community. Beatty says she was able to learn a lot from them. She recalled that even though she went to a small school, and they had limited talent, anything can be achieved through hard work. Both of the directors instilled the importance of hard work and perseverance in Beatty.

Beatty plans to go on and pursue a Master’s of Business Adminstration after graduation. Her plans include moving to a big city and working for a big company in her professional years.

Dreams and Nightmares - 5th Student Cabaret Evannah Phan Arts and Entertainment Editor Etp7162@lockhaven.edu The University Players at Lock Haven University will be hosting their 5th annual student cabaret at 7:30 p.m. on April 5th and April 6th in the Sloan Auditorium. The theme of this year’s cabaret is “Dreams and Nightmares.”

The production will feature two 25-30 minute acts with a 10-minute intermission in between. The acts include three group songs, seven solo acts, and four duets. The creator of this year’s theme for the cabaret was Mary Beth Ruggerio. She said the theme, “Dreams and Nightmares,” is supposed to be an explanation of life. “Are we

afraid to reach our dreams? What keeps us from living our dreams?” she asked. “Have you ever lived in a nightmare? Have you ever lived in a dream?” All of the acts connect to these questions, and each is meant to represent a dream or a nightmare.

Students involved in the production are seniors Mary Beth Ruggerio, Austin Miller, and Garrett Hartshaw; junior Morgan Beatty, who is the director; and juniors Grace Monroe, Jake Houtz, Rebecca Glincman, Matthew Duncan, and Destena Bower. Sophomore Meghan Bower and freshman Paige Mitcheltree round out the cast.

Tickets for the production are $5, but LHU students can purchase them at a discounted price of $3 with their LHU student ID. Tickets can be purchased at the door, cash only.

It has been about a year and a half since The Weeknd released his last album, and he’s made a huge comeback. His new album, “My Dear Melancholy,” was released on March 30th only consisting of six songs. But the public is loving them so much, the album is on its way to being No.1 on Billboard’s 200 album chart.

You can tell by just listening to the lyrics of each song that they show so much emotion and vulnerability coming from this amazing, musical artist. Each song is supposed to tell a story that captivates whoever’s listening, and that goal is achieved with every song on this album. They all revolve around one

deep meaning but tell us what it is in many different ways. It can be interpreted differently as well, all depending on who’s listening.

One of the biggest points talked about in this album is The Weeknd’s breakup with singer-songwriter/actress, Selena Gomez. The songs sound really depressing in an upbeat way and you can tell he’s talking about someone who hurt him. Even so, a lot of people already had different opinions about this and are discussing it in social media as one of their favorite songs.

It is for me as well.

For example, I am obsessed with the song “Call Out My Name” because it shows the strongest emotion connection between the lyrics and the music. Everything fits together so well with this song, and the artist makes it even better by expressing vulnerability in his voice while singing this catchy tune. It

talks about being there for someone no matter what, and it shows how much you care even if they don’t appreciate it in the end. Even facing rejection, he still wants to be there for that person to prove his loyalty.

It’s sort of like a call for attention and there is a possibility that he’s talking about what his relationship was like with Gomez. Despite all the potential fakeness, they showed the public about how happy they were. The question is: were they really happy?

This album certainly challengess the public’s thoughts about their relationship as being the perfect couple. But all signs point to the idea that, no, they weren’t all that happy. The Weeknd has succeeded in putting out amazing content in his music and giving his fans the album they’ve been waiting for after his year and a half hiatus.

“Roseanne” Reboot

“Roseanne” is back on prime-time television after going off the air in 1988 with 10 seasons under its belt.

They’re back with the original cast, 21 years after the show’s first run ended.

Right now, “Roseanne” is just two weeks into its comeback, but they have already taken the television world by storm (again) with millions tuning in both weeks. The Conners are a working-class, multigenerational family that struggles in various areas—as many real families do—with marriage strains, money woes, and dysfunction in the household. The Conners always were outspoken, and they are back at full force addressing the issues in society today. So far, the writers have brought healthcare, the Presidential election, sexuality, surrogate parenting, economics, and the job market into the conversation. As the season goes on I think we can expect even more sensitive topics to be debated around the Conners dinner table.

“Roseanne” does touch on heavy topics, but the show is primarily a comedy, and the characters make light of real-world problems. This brings the problems to the

forefront for public conversation but also allows humor to lessen the anger and heat that come with heavy discussions about social issues.

What’s interesting to me is that nothing substantial has changed with the Conners themselves. They are still the same, outspoken characters. The 1980s gave them many things to talk about, and now, 20 years later, they are still relevant, although those topics have been updated.

The show’s producers decided to reboot it after John Goodman, who plays the character of Dan Conner, appeared on Sara Gilbert’s show called “The Talk.” Gilbert had played Dan and Roseanne’s daughter Darlene in the original series. She felt it was the right moment to bring everyone back on board and the show back to life.

It has been amazing to see “Good Morning America’s” enthusiasm about the new incarnation of “Roseanne.”

And they are not alone: all of the morning news shows as well as the celebrity news programs like “Access Hollywood” have been raving about the impact the show is having.

“Roseanne” is offering a, refurbished new lens for looking at family dysfunction and current societal struggles. Check it out on the ABC network, Tuesdays at 8 p.m.

LIFESTYLES Get in shape for that summer body

I know school feels like it’s dragging by but it’s not time to give up now. I know right about now professor’s projects and papers are like a hurricane crashing down on your head and knocking the breath out of you every time you think about it. But you can get through this. Keeping your eyes on the prize is a heavy task, but it’s one you can do.

One thing to do to ease the stress of school in your mind is to join a fitness class that’s offered at the Student Rec Center. One class that a few of my friends have told me about is the highintensity interval training class.

Anne Klepeiss, a physician assistant major, runs the H.I.T. class from Monday to Thursday 7 to 8 pm. She sat down to tell me what her class is all about. “Fitness is really important to me,” she said. “I’m hoping to become a physician assistant, and I’m going to be educating people about the importance of health, fitness, and diet. So this is kind of a outlet for me,” said Klepeiss.

She enjoys instructing and seeing the new faces that come in the doors. She organizes the the workouts so that students can get a little bit more rest as needed for certain body parts, but

she also incorporates cardio to keep the heart rate up.

The class is high intensity, so be prepared to sweat. Klepeiss described the class as consisting of different exercises like jumping jacks, jump squats, core exercises, and exercises strengthening your upper body. She includes a bit of cardio and strength training to get the best of both worlds.

All the workouts involve exercises that she comes up with in her free time at home, so that participants experience different ways to get a deeper workout each time they participate. She breaks the exercises into two different sections for every day.

Mondays and Tuesdays are usually a mix of cardio and strength workouts, so that it targets more than just one area. Wednesdays are a mix of different strength exercises to tone and firm the body. Finally Thursday are mostly cardio, to help burn stubborn body fat in problem areas. This workout that gives students a some rest periods in between sessions and allows them to recover better.

Klepeiss said that if you’re not sweating by the end of this class, then you’re not working out properly. The H.I.T. class is a great way to improve your cardiovascular system and help keep school from seeming like everything is about to cave in on you. So make time for yourself and come workout with Anne Klepeiss.

Make time to appreciate the little things

Derek Dannker Editor-in-Chief ddd4907@lockhaven.edu I find increasingly - and it will likely become even more important as the semester drags on- that its necessary to enjoy the little things in life. We, as students, get so wrapped up into our studies that we can often find ourselves exasperated by the end of the week.

It’s necessary then, from time to time, to stop and enjoy the breeze, the rain on your face or to try to pet one of the dogs that, occasionally, are being walked through campus.

Kate and Abby are two golden retrievers that are walked through main campus nearly everyday, I’ve seen several students ask the owner if they can pet them and the answer is always yes. It seems to be their favorite thing, to visit with students.

Lock Haven University finds itself on the cusp of many wilderness trails that wrap around campus. I’ve greeted Bob Myers, professor of english, while he was returning from such walks. He can attest to the relaxing quality of a leisurely stroll through the woods.

Not only this, but many students also find themselves on the dyke along the Susquehanna river. I know that being around water, for me, has a strange way of washing away the struggles of the day.

If being on your feet isn’t your thing then you don’t even

need to leave the comfort of Stevenson Library’s couches, I have a friend who will routinely take study breaks to scroll through the internet and find cute pictures of puppies. This is one that escapes me but it seems to bring her solace from her workload and that is what counts.

To sonder is an interesting word that has sprang to somewhat popular use. It means to come to “the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own.”

In the spirit of “sondering” I find that sitting at the amphitheater and just observing other students pass by, on their way to class or work or to eat, is immensely calming.

It’s important to realize that you are not alone in your struggles, there are thousands of other people around you who are going through some of the same difficulties and issues you find yourself in. If others are able to overcome them, then you will too.

This life is often said by Christians to be a “veil of tears.”

They’re not wrong. Buddhists came to the same conclusions 2000 years.

Our job then, needs to be to look out for the small redemptive manifestations of the justification of being. Even in the darkest of moments, there can be a light at the end of the tunnel. We, not only as students but as individuals with a future, need to recognize that not every tragedy is a death sentence. But, when all else fails, you can find that light in the small things.

PA. sports teams win The importance of solitude big, fans win bigger Derek Danneker

It can be deeply saddening or confounding to hear a friend or significant indicate that they’d much rather be alone at any given time. We may feel an inclination to accept such a declarative sentence as a statement of distress; a call for immediate aid. But we ought not.

They’ve likely been torn apart in the riptides of society and are in need of a close introspection to ensure that most -very likely, not all- of their bits and pieces are where they would expect them.

Our inexorably interwoven society seems to demand a kind of constant attention. Each day we are bombarded with advertisements, assignments or confrontations to our ideological dispositions.

Because of this ever present erosion, we may feel many emotions throughout the day. None of which will be properly examined.

Carl Jung (1975-1961), was a Swedish psychoanalyst who introduced the useful Latin term “solve et coagula,” whose premise was borrowed from alchemy. It means dissolve and coagulate.

Though it’s quite obvious the term made no useful gains in the field of alchemy, it can certainly be argued to have made up for its faults in psychology.

For Jung, it was necessary to boil down or burn off unneeded aspects of our character. Very often, and especially in our -often- superficial society, we must boil off oceans worth of material in order to find the small piece that we may then solidly add or coagulate to ourselves.

It seems the case then, that an extremely probable outcome of an individual who has been treating honestly or has taken another’s ideas to heart may, from time to time, find themselves with a deep need to be alone.

It is only in the solitude of our own mind that we may examine that which, for per-

haps only a second, made us uncomfortable, exuberant or irascible. In order to properly align ourselves with our psyche.

It’s quite obvious that, much like one person cannot control every aspect of another’s life, a single individual cannot control every aspect of their own life. The underlying psychology of any one person could be best represented by multiple entities, all low-resolution versions of yourself, all vying for control. The most starved of which, will gain control until its needs are met.

Perhaps there’s an angry entity which emerges when you watch basketball, that may be an indication that you’d really enjoy some competition. Maybe another part of you feels sad when you watch a romantic-comedy, that may be an indication that you should seek a new relationship. The examples could go on indefinitely.

To avoid the tyranny of any single entity within ourselves, we must be constantly attentive to minute changes in our temperament and be willing to sort through societal trash to find what would truly satisfy the entity.

We must do the best we can, then, to arrange our unconscious. The best of times to sort ourselves out, then, is when we are alone.

Opinions Editor rab484@lockhaven.edu On Monday, the Villanova Wildcats, a Philadelphia area team, won the NCAA Division I Championship for basketball. Earlier this year, the Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl LII. “The City of Champions” is and will be Pittsburgh for years to come, but Philadelphia’s sports teams can make a major impact on their communities if they keep on winning huge games.

I grew up in the Pittsburgh region, and as a 20 year-old, I’ve witnessed the Steelers and Penguins combine to win several championships in the past 15 years. There’s no way to explain the effect a national championship team has on a city.

During the few days before a big game or final series, everyone talks about what they expect from their hometown team(s), and it brings people together. No matter if you’re talking to a stranger on the trolley or chatting with a co-worker, you’ll see that the potential of another trophy being brought home to Pittsburgh is on the minds of many. The atmosphere of that city turns incredible, and even though I’m lucky for living in a huge sports region, it’s something I hope everyone can experience in their lifetime.

After a hometown team wins a championship, almost everyone is in high spirits.

Even those who don’t follow sports are happy to know their city is the best at a certain sport. It’s uplifting for everyone, and I can’t even imagine how happy Pittsburghers will be if the Penguins win a third Stanley Cup in a row.

I’m happy for Philly fans, and the recent championships should help to make “The City of Brotherly Love” closer.

Penn State won their third NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship in a row this year, and won seven out of the last eight. Pennsylvania was the second state to join the Union in 1787. Today, it’s the first state at the top of the list for best sports teams.

Conservative YouTube hosts Diamond and Silk were paid and made famous by Trump to talk during his campaign rallies, says Graham Lanktree. Now they build their brand by talking on Fox News shows such as Hannity, and sell t-shirts on their online sites.

Wade Lauderman of the Lock Haven University men’s outdoor track & field team started his season out with a bang this past weekend at the Jim Taylor Invite hosted by Susquehanna University.

He competed in the javelin where he hit a NCAA provisional mark as his best throw soared to a distance of 192 and a half feet. That mark was placed him third overall, and only behind two Division I Bucknell student-athletes.

Softball Doug Spatafore Sports Information Director dpatafo@lockhvaen.edu Amanda Loar of the LHU Softball team has been named this week’s Susquehanna Trailways/GoLHU.com Female Athlete of the Week.

In the two contests vs Millersville last week, Loar went 3-6 from the plate and drove in seven RBI’s. In game two vs. the Marauders, she was 2 for 3 with five RBIs to help lead LHU to a two game sweep.

Men’s Track & Field soars at opening meet Matt Guiod

Graduate Assistant mag3656@lockhaven.edu The Lock Haven University men’s outdoor track and field team competed in its first meet this season at the Jim Taylor Invite hosted by Susquehanna University where numerous Bald Eagles qualified for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.

Leading the way for the Bald Eagles was Wade Laudeman (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) who hit a NCAA Provisional mark in the javelin as he launched it 192-06 feet for third overall. Dalton Lyons (Gettysburg, Pa./ Gettysburg Area) also threw it well as he qualified for the PSAC Championships with a best throw of 179-01 feet.

To kick start the track events, Michael Lewis (Shickshinny, Pa./Northwest) and Luke Vanderhoff (Hamburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley) both qualified in the 10,000-meter race as Lewis took home the individual title with a time of 32:36.96. Vanderhoff placed third as he crossed the line in 32:38.81.

Brian Zimmerman (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) put on a show for the fans as he cruised to the 400-meter individual title while also placing second in the 200-meter dash. In the 400-meter sprint he crossed the line well under the PSAC mark with a time of 48.70 which was over .60 seconds faster than the next competitor. While in the 200-meter sprint Zimmerman clocked a time of 22.28.

Dipping under the 11 second barrier in the 100-meter dash was Ryan Cruz (Bushkill, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) who finished in third place

stopping the clock at 10.98. Cruz also soared in the long jump with a best mark of 21-09.5 feet which is a PSAC mark.

Marcus Disbrow (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) easily threw past the PSAC standard in the discus as he placed third with a throw of 140-07 feet.

Mitchell Coakley (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) competed in the 3,000-meter steeple chase where he finished third with a PSAC qualifying time of 10:02.76.

In the 1,500-meter run both Patrick Miller (Apollo, Pa./Kiski) and Matt Taylor (Martinsburg, W.V./Hagerstown C.C.) dipped just under the qualifying standard as they placed seventh and eighth respectively. Miller crossed the line in 4:05.50 while Taylor was just behind him with a time of 4:05.84.

The 4X100-meter relay team consisting of Adam Gehret (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyerstown), Justin Warfel (York, Pa./West York), Cruz and Zimmerman sped to a time of 42.66 which placed them second overall and only behind Division I Bucknell University.

In the 4X400-meter relay Chad Vasey (Lackawaxen, Pa./Wallenpaupack), Greg Johnson (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport), Cruz and Zimmerman posted a time of 3:28.93 which placed them second overall.

The Haven will now set their sights on the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary as they will travel down for the three-day meet starting on Thursday, April 5.

No. 17 Baseball walks-off in game two, sweeps Mansfield Ryan Bogaczyk

The Lock Haven University baseball team (13-4, 5-1 PSAC East) used a walk-off single from Nick Stotler (Plum, Pa./Coker College) in the bottom of the seventh of game two to help complete the sweep of rival Mansfield (7-12, 1-5 PSAC East) in two very tight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Divisional games Saturday at Watkins field.

The Bald Eagles were able to take game one 8-4 before taking game two 4-3.

Game one saw the Mountaineers jump out to an early 2-0 lead after a Tyler Guidos two-run homer to left in the top of the first inning. LHU was able to recapture the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the third and the Bald Eagles never looked back on their way to an 8-4 win.

Cayden Stover (Beech Creek, Pa./Chesapeake College) led the way for The Haven, going 3-4 in the game with three RBIs and three runs scored. Liam McArthur (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall) also had a strong game, going 3-4 while scoring three runs.

John Banes (Springfield, Pa./Cumberland CC) and Kolby Dehaas (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho/Wenatchee Valley CC) both tallied two hits for LHU. In game two, Lock Haven trailed 2-1 before the Bald Eagles were able to score two runs in the bottom of the third to jump ahead 3-2. Mansfield tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth and the score remained tied heading into the bottom of the seventh.

With two outs in the inning, Stover was able to rip a triple to deep leftcenter in order to bring Stotler to the plate. Stotler was able to send a single down the right field line to score Stover and win the game.

Stover once again had a strong game, going 3-4 while scoring two runs.

McArthur and Stotler both added two hits each.

The Bald Eagles entered the weekend ranked No. 17 in the country. It marks the first time LHU baseball has been ranked in the modern era and is believed to be highest ranking ever for Lock Haven.

Women’s Track & Field caps first meet of outdoor season Matt Guiod

Graduate Assistant mas3656@lockhaven.edu The Lock Haven University women’s track and field team kicked off its outdoor schedule today at the Jim Taylor Invite hosted by Susquehanna University.

Freshman Cadie Kiser (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) ran in the 1,500-meter run where she finished 12th overall with a PSAC time of 4:55.78.

Stephanie Williams (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) and Kelsey Koontz (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) both threw PSAC marks in the hammer throw as they placed fourth and sixth, respectively. Williams had a best toss of 137-09 feet while Koontz had a personal best throw on the day of 135-11 feet.

In the 100-meter hurdles Rashana Tompkins (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty H.S) sped to a time of 15.34 which placed her third overall and well under the PSAC time.

In the 4X100-meter relay the squad of Tatum Mosley (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East), Morgan Sutton (Stevensville, Pa./Wyalusing), Kayla Brathwaite (Arouca, Trinidad & Tbago/ Bishop Anstey East) and Katie Klercker (Gleford, N.Y./Onteora Central) posted a time of 49.72 finishing in second place, only behind Division I opponent Bucknell University.

The Haven will now set their sights on the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary as they will travel down for the three-day meet starting on Thursday, April 5.
