This year, we’re saying goodbye and good luck to one of our very one and fearless leader, Kiara Carson, and she had a few parting words to her fellow bald eagles: “Lock Haven has been my home away from home since I started my freshman year back in 2017, but the EE news room is where it all came together for me. It’s where it became a complete niche for me to explore and express my passions in an inclusive way. It’s also where I connected with an amazing team, who helped me get through a lol, especially during this pandemic. The LHU Eagle Eye has been an experience I will never forget or regret.”
Archaeologists discover lost Egyptian city Levi Deitz Copy Editor lwd6487@lockhaven.edu Epyptian archaeologists are believed to have discovered the ancient Egyptian city of Luxor. This is believed to be the largest ancient settlement ever discovered in the country. The excavation of the city began back in September of 2020. Head archaeologist Zahi Hawass wrote on his Facebook page that the city was “untouched” and “left by the ancient residents as if it were yesterday.” The archaeologists also found a seal, which called the city “the domain of the dazzling Aten.” The seal is referring to what was considered a golden age of Egypt under the pharaoh and builder of the city, Amenhotep III. The city was abandoned by his son, Akhenaten, about 3400 years ago. According to CBS, the archaeology team, led by Hawass, was originally looking for the mortuary temple of King Tutankhamun, who also happens to be the son of Akhenaten.Within weeks of searching, the team started to find mud brick formations, which turned out to be the remains of the city. Some of the items found within the city include rooms filled with tools, remains of a bakery, ovens and storage pottery. According to Hawass, the northern part of the city - which is still under sand - is comprised of mostly administrative and residential districts.
He said that “it was the largest administrative and industrial settlement in the era of the Egyptian empire on the western bank of Luxor.” Also found within the city was a skeleton that the team described as unusual. They said that the skeleton was “a person found with arms outstretched to his side, and remains of a rope wrapped around his knees.” They don’t have an answer as to why it was found this way, but the team is continuing to research. Betsy Brian, professor of egyptology at Johns Hopkins University, told ABC that “the discovery of the Lost City, not only will give us a rare glimpse into the life of the Ancient Egyptians at the time where the Empire was at its wealthiest but will help us shed light on one of history’s greatest mystery: why did Akhenaten and Nefertiti decide to move to Amarna.” She also described the finding of Luxor as only second to the discover of the tomb of King Tutankhamun. Egypt’s government is hoping that the discovery will increase tourism to the nation, which has taken a hit in the past few years due to political unrest and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Biden’s proposed gun control plan Brittany Robertson Lifestyles Editor bnr888@lockhaven.edu As a response to recent mass shootings, President Biden passed a series of six executive orders to help combat the increase in American gun violence. According to a White House press release, President Biden is looking to handle gun control by trying to reduce all types of community gun violence, suicide by firearms, mass shootings and domestic violence. Recently, active measures were passed to help resolve the gun control crisis: 1. The Justice Department within 30 days will pass a measure to help stop the sales of “ghost guns.” These types of guns are normally the ones that are known to be untraceable at crime scenes. They also tend to appear in kits and are easy to assemble to use at the buyers’ wishes. 2. The Justice Department within 60 days will issue a proposed rule to help with marketing a stabilization brace. If a pistol can be easily switched to a short-barreled rifle it must be clearly indicated in accordance with the National Firearms Act. The shooter in the Boulder Colorado tragedy used one of these and was able to conceal the weapon a lot easier.
3. The Justice Department within 60 days will publish the model “red flag’’ legislation. The legislation will allow family members and law enforcement to bar anyone who seems to be a danger to themselves or others. They will create a model, but it would be up to individual states to adopt it or make their version. 4. The administration is investing in opportunities for evidence-based community violence interventions. As a part of the American Jobs Plan, it will give opportunities for alternative ways to reduce gun violence in urban communities other than incarceration. 5. The Justice Department will issue an annual report on firearms trafficking. This will allow lawmakers to be able to follow the data to see where the firearms end up rather than to dangerous people. Also, the report will be updated to reflect current data rather than outdated data from 2000. 6. The president will nominate David Chapman to serve as the Director of the Bureau Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). This federal agency is responsible for enforcing American gun laws. The ATF has not had a director since 2015, and Biden believes a director is needed to operate the agency appropriately.

We all remember 2010 and the hearing about this kid that was discovered on YouTube by Usher. Usher brought Bieber to audition for “Scooter’’ Braun and well we know what happened. Many years have gone by and his music has grown up as well. The first album that was released for Bieber included songs like “Baby’’ and “Someone like you”. Here we are in 2021, and Bieber has given us another album to enjoy. This album is called “Justice” and it is filled with a different type of Bieber. The album was inspired to have music to provide comfort and make songs that people can relate to. These songs show a different type of person, a more grown up version of the kid we all grew to love. The songs on this current album represent a person who has grown up. It is filled with positivity and a R & B type of vibe. One of the songs, “Peaches’’ has hit the top 100 singles chart. The album overall has hit the charts as a top producing album. Justice was recorded during the pandemic by Bieber sending his demos to songwriters and producers. It has brought back many memories of the kid we found on Youtube. Justin has definitely grown into himself and became a great musician that millions of girls that grew up listening to. Take a chance on the album, this is a keeper and should be added to your music library.

If you are reading this, chances are you are one of the many Americans who get the 1,400 dollar stimulus check as part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. If not, this article is still for you because this is a few tips on how to get the most out of your money. Know your spending: Before you go spending all that new money you just got, sit down and figure out what you spend your money on monthly. This can be anything from rent to the monthly subscription to even the money you spend on late night fast food trips. Anything counts if you pay for it. Knowing and being aware of what and how much you are spending your money on keeps you informed of where all your money is going. It also makes it easier to know where you can cut back when it’s time for you to start saving your money. Divide and Limit: Once you know what you are spending your money on, you can move your extra money to where it is most needed. Meaning if you have debts, like loans, that are falling behind or incurring interest, you can pay on those first before going out and buying that new expensive pair of shoes. By putting that money towards debts like loans, not only are you building credit and saving money you will need later in life, you will be limiting yourself on exces-
sive purchases you are tempted to make when you have extra money. Save where you can: If you have money left over after paying a bit on your debts, try to put some of what is left of it into a savings account. Most banks let you open up savings accounts for free and it is a good way to separate your spending money from the money you want to save. Having a good savings is important later in life for unexpected expenses and larger purchases you want to make, but it takes time to make that savings useful. These stimulus checks are a great way to get one started if you are having trouble getting one started. Stick to it: Budgets and money saving tips are only as good to you as long as you stick to them. Saving money and paying off debts takes time, so you have to continuously work to put your money where it will help you the most. Need some extra money? Don’t we all! This past year has created a financial roller coaster ride for many young adults and college students. However, as pandemic restrictions begin to loosen up, more options are becoming available to earn some extra cash. If you are looking for an online job or new side hustle, check out the below suggestions brought to you by the Lock Haven University Eagle Eye staff. 1. Part-time jobs through your local university - It seems like LHU is always looking for part-time student workers willing to help out in academic departments, dormitories, resource offices like Registrar or Student Accounts, TRIO, and sports teams. Be sure to take a look at the Student Activities flyer that is sent to your LHU email on a weekly basis to find various job opportunities available right here on-campus. Since we are not fully back in-person yet, some of these opportunities are even available as remote jobs. Being a student worker myself, I enjoy working on-campus because your employers understand that your main responsibility is being a college student; therefore, they provide a bit more scheduling flexibility compared to off-campus jobs. 2. Freelancing - If you are looking for a job to help build your portfolio and/or résumé, give freelancing a try. There are tons of freelancing opportunities available to college students, including writing, editing, graphic design, and photography. The majority of freelance jobs do not require a college degree. In fact, they only acquire a set of skills students already possess or can easily learn, according to College Info Geek. Freelancing also provides a greater scheduling flexibility for busy college students since most jobs are available online. 3. Grubhub, Uber Eats, or DoorDash delivery driver - More than ever, people are resorting to carryout and delivery for their next meals. According to the LA Times, the pandemic has created a high demand within the last year for delivery drivers across a wide variety of food
delivery apps, like Grubhub, Uber Eats, and DoorDash. These food delivery services offer flexible scheduling and allow workers to choose what type of transportation they want to use. Applying for the job is also relatively easy. You are only a few clicks from a new delivery job! 4. Sell your stuff - This spring, why not take some time to clean out your closets and miscellaneous drawers to earn some cash by selling items that you don’t use. There are a bunch of online marketplaces and mobile apps that let you buy and sell new and used merchandise locally. Among them include Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp (formally Letgo), Poshmark, Craigslist, and Mercari. A girl’s guide to lying Cassandra Keller Sports Editor cmk2366@lockhaven.edu Relationships are hard no matter who you are because it is hard to be vulnerable to people who we like romantically or otherwise. Lying is just one way we protect ourselves from that vulnerable feeling and that doesn’t have to be a bad thing especially for us girls. In new relationships, getting to know the other person is really important. Lying about important things like life goals and past experiences isn’t the way to go in that situation since those kinds of lies can lead to issues later when the person finds out the truth about them. The lies are a problem in that situation because they make you seem like someone you’re not, but when a lie doesn’t do tha t, but rather protects feelings then that lie isn’t so bad. I’m talking about white lies, ladies. Those kinds of lies are peppered into all kinds of relationships to spare feelings of those in the relationships. So if you are in a relationship and your significant other really likes a shirt you don’t really like, it is ok to tell a little lie to make them feel like they look good. That way they feel good about themselves instead of self-conscious about something so insignificant. The deeper the relationship gets, the fewer lies you should have to tell. As time goes on, and trust gets built, it should be easier to let that vulnerability show and to not have to use lying as that defence mechanism. If you are finding yourself still lying or lying more in a deep relationship, then you need to take a step back and reassess the quality of that relationship. People have relationships to have reliable social interactions and lying is an indication of when those interactions are not reliable. Lying in a relationship really depends on the depth of that relationship and who it is you are lying to. A close friend, family member or a significant other will want to be told the truth most of the time, but sometimes, telling a lie is better and that is ok.

A boy’s guide to lying Tess English tae7002@lockhaven.edu Online Manager The real answer is never. Honesty should be the cornerstone of every relationship including and not limited to, romantic, platonic, and even family bonds. But, the idea of never wanting to lie to someone and the practicality of it are two distinctly different things. Honesty is the best policy, but it’s also not necessarily the most constructive. So how should men navigate this tricky ideal of honest and constructive? The answer isn’t easy, but let’s look at some questions that will act as a guide to help. The first thing to evaluate how important the issue is. What is at stake? As a boyfriend, you should never lie about something relationship-altering such as changes in financial situations, cheating, health concerns, and much more. In issues of smaller importance or little to no concern, it might be okay to tell a white lie. Consider this: you’re out looking at paint swatches with your S.O. Frankly, you’re tired of being out and don’t really know the difference between mauve and grape anyhow. While none of the colors your partner has picked out wowed you, you really don’t care about what color the bathroom is anyway. Is it okay to lie about how excited you are about whatever color your sweetheart picks out? I would say yes. Does it really hurt to let your S.O be excited about agreeing on a wall color you are never going to care about? Unless you suddenly become an interior designer, probably not. Even if you did, it’s not that hard to re-paint the bathroom. Another thing to consider is if the problem is fix-
able? For instance, your partner struggles with adult acne. While everyone prefers clear skin it can be very hard to maintain or achieve for certain people. Your partner asks how bad their recent break out is (and it’s pretty bad). Should you lie? Maybe. If your partner does his/her best to stick to the facial routine then I think it’s fair to say they’re putting in the effort. Telling them it looks really rough will only lower their esteem and potentially feel unattractive. Which is silly, they’re still the mad cutie you fell in love with, but their pores just need a little help staying clean and healthy. In this case, honesty wouldn’t be that constructive necessarily. However, this approach doesn’t work for every scenario. Let’s say your partner has picked out a bad outfit to roll out in and they ask you how it looks. Even though style can be subjective you should give your honest opinion because it’s better to feel a little def late and change into something that looks nice than to have everyone else stare at you in an unf lattering outfit. Lastly, can you live with the idea of lying to your S.O.? If it’s going to cause you the stress of getting found out or cause major relationship issues if you’re found lying don’t do it. If you’re going to tell the truth the sooner is the better. The longer you wait the worse it’ll get. So while honesty is still the gold standard for a relationship, be careful with how you choose to lie in your relationship, or before you know it the whole citation will get out of hand.

Athlets of the week!
Laurel Moyer Moyer led Lock Haven in the Ed Fry invitational hosted by IUP. Moyer broke her school record with a time of 16:55.83 in the 5000 meter race which beat out her own school record. Moyer also made history as she is the first woman to ever run a sub 17 minute 5k in Lock Haven University history. Moyer with this time turned in an NCAA Championship qualifying time as well as ranking her in the top 20 across all of NCAA DII. Lock Haven university track and field teams will be back in action this Saturday at the All-American meet hosted by East Stroudsburg at 10:30 a.m.
Kyler Mellott Mellott led Lock Haven to a win by pitching a shut-out game vs Mansfield this past weekend (April 10). Mellott threw a complete game only giving up four hits while striking out five. Mellott, with this pitching performance, earned his first career win as a Bald Eagle earning PSAC East pitcher of the week honors. Lock Haven baseball will be back in action this weekend against Shepherd April 16 at 12 p.m.

Record-breaking run headlines the day Doug Spatafore Senior Director of Athletic Communications & Marketing dspatafo@lockhaven.edu Distance-standout Laurel Moyer (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) smashed her own school record in the 5,000-meter run and she led the way on April 11 for the Lock Haven University women’s outdoor track & field team at the Ed Fry Invitational, hosted by Indiana (Pa.) University. Competing at 5,000-meters, Moyer shattered her own school record with an NCAA Division II championship provisional qualifying time of 16:55.83. She became the first woman in LHU history to break the 17-minute mark in the 5K and in doing so, Moyer broke her own school record of 17:01.05, which she ran back in 2019 at the Penn Relays. Her time marked a season-best by nearly 21 seconds and currently ranks in the top-
20 among all NCAA Division II female competitors. She was bested only by Edinboro-standout Stefanie Parsons, who ran 16:49.99. Overall, the women’s distance runners stood out today for Lock Haven. The Bald Eagles got a 1-2 finish in the 10,000-meter run, thanks to the efforts of Caroline Stickley (Atglen, Pa./Octorara) and Molly Snyder (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg). The race marked the 10K debut for both as they finished with times of 43:06.40 and 43:36.84, which rank in the PSAC’s top-10 this season. Karlee Noel (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) was second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:33.54 and Elaina Klinger (Danville, Pa./Danville) added a ninth-place finish in the 5K with a time of 19:02.15. Billie Jo Bollinger (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) turned in a strong hurdle-double for Lock Haven. She was second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.53 and she was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.51. Both times are season-best marks. Riyana Owens (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown) was fifth at 200 meters with a season-best time of 25.77. Karina Long (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) was sixth in the long jump (17-04.75) and eighth in the triple jump (34-07.00). Megan Manglaviti (Falls, Pa./Tunkhannock) rounded out a solid day for LHU with a seasonbest mark in the hammer throw (140-09.00; 8th). UP NEXT: LHU will return to action on Saturday, April 17 at East Stroudsburg’s All-American meet.

Baylor tops undefeated Gonzaga for its first NCAA national championship Kerri Hoover Ad/Design Editor and News Editor kah4338@lockhaven.edu Baylor University won its first men’s basketball title on April 5 after defeating No. 1 seed Gonzaga, 86-70, during the NCAA March Madness championship game in Indianapolis, Indiana. Before the final game, Gonzaga held an undefeated record of 31-0, while Baylor had a two game defeat of 27-2. Following the game, the Bears came out on top, finishing the season with a record of 28-2, while the Bulldogs experienced their first season loss, ending with a record of 31-1. The Bears led early on in the game with a score of 9-0. Within the first 10 minutes, Baylor ascended over Gonzaga with a 19-point lead at 29-10. At this point in the game, it marked the Bulldogs’ largest point deficit of the season. Much to their surprise, the Bulldogs never led once in the season-ending game. While Gonzaga was able to cut the lead to 10 points by halftime and eventually nine points in the second half, the Bulldogs were never able to recover. “Baylor just beat us in every facet of the game tonight,” Gonzaga coach Mark Few said during a CBS interview on April 5. “The aggressiveness and the athleticism of Baylor just had us on our heels.” The Bears’ aggression and athleticism also resulted in more shooting time. Overall, Baylor took 18 more shot attempts compared to Gonzaga in addition to grabbing 16 offensive rebounds. According to the NY Times, Gonzaga had its worst defensive rebounding performance of the season by 15% during the championship game while having the worst overall team rebounding performance since the 2016-2017 season.
Baylor point guards, Jared Butler and MaCio Teague, helped lead their team to victory with a combined 56 points and 12 assists. Butler scored the most points during the game, ending with a 22 point total in addition to four three-pointers and seven assists. He became the first player since 2003 to make at least 20 points and seven assists during a men’s national championship game. The previous record was held by Syracuse forward Carmelo Anthony. “I think it was harder to win this year than ever before,” Butler said during a USA Today interview. “Because of everything we had to sacrifice with our lives for playing basketball, no social life, no fans at games sometimes. It’s really cool to be able to say we did this in the midst of adversity, tribulations, and we were able to bring it home for Baylor.”
