New “TRUTH” social media platform

Former President Donald Trump announced plans on Oct. 20 to create a new social media platform to “give a voice to all.”

The name of the platform is “TRUTH Social” and is set to be released during the first quarter of 2022.

This news comes after Trump had been banned on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube for one year. The permanent ban was brought up to him after the Jan. 6 insurrection in the U.S. Capitol by Trump’s supporters.

The platform will be used to “stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech” as Trump stated.

The news of the social media site’s launch and rules have been met with wide criticism.

One of clauses the platform contains in their terms of service is that no user is allowed to “disparage, tarnish, or otherwise harm, in our opinion, us and/or the site.” This means anyone who wishes to critique or provide a differing opinion to the former president or the site, they may be punished by

TRUTH. The punishment does not stop there, as TRUTH may also “take appropriate legal action” against those who violate their rules.

This is something that differs TRUTH from other social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.

After the site was announced by Trump, hackers were able to gain access to an early prerelease version of the site and were able to create spoof accounts of both Trump and known affiliates of Trump like Steve Bannon.

Due to this hacking, the prerelease was taken offline as a way to give control back to the owners of the site.

Despite the issues, public critique and alleged hypocrisy, TRUTH still plans on launching the site in early 2022.

This will finally allow Trump to have his own space to shout whatever he wants for the first time in nearly a year.

“Everyone asks me why doesn’t someone stand up to Big Tech?” Trump wrote on his site. “Well, we will be soon!”

LHU Player Performs “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)” Alex Ross A&E Section Editor amr1884@lockhaven.edu Lock Haven University Players, Lock Haven’s drama club, held their black box theatre production of “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” last week at the Sloan Fine Arts building. Spanning over 4 days and 5 showings, the three-man play condensed almost every Shakespeare comedy and tragedy into less than 90 minutes.

Originally written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield in 1989, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare” shoved 37 plays, including the tragedies, comedies, and histories all into one. The play incorporates many moments of improvisation and occasional references to pop culture. Due to this, every performance was different in some way.

The beginning of the show introduced each of the actors in the role as “experts” of Shakespeare history and plays, but one of them eventually mixes him up with Hitler. After brief introductions of

each actor, the show quickly dives right into “Romeo and Juliet,” hitting every famous scene from the play with great comedic effect.

After finishing that play, “Titus Andronicus” is performed, but in an unexpected style; it’s played off as a cannibalistic cooking show. Then all the comedies are combined into one, as the performers note they are all very similar to one another. The histories, like “Richard III” and “Henry V” are tied together into an absurdly hilarious football game.

“Macbeth,” played off with extremely inaccurate Scottish accents, is quickly ran through right before the crew notice they have not done “Hamlet” yet. This leads Brianna Beck, one of the actors, to storm out of the theater in protest of performing “Hamlet.” The crew eventually gets to the show and plays it 4 times, once in a normal pacing, twice as quick as they can, and once in reverse. As the show ends, all the performers run out of the theater to celebrate at Six Flags.

The popular Netflix show ‘You’ third season was released on Friday, Oct. 15. If you are still intrigued by Joe Goldberg’s relationship with the new Love QuinnGoldberg, then you will love this season.

But now they’re a family in a new suburb of Madre Linda where everyone knows each other’s business… maybe that’ll end their endless cycle of killing. Keep reading if you want to know what to expect from the new season… warning spoilers ahead.

You may be wondering to yourself, will Joe finally end his obsession with other women he encounters since he is married to Love and has a newborn, the answer is no. The last episode of season two gave viewers the answer when we saw Joe peeking through the fence spying on their neighbor whose name is revealed in the new season(other spoilers why not include the neighbors name?). Fans thought in season two that Joe found his perfect match, Love, based on each other’s acceptance of their killing behavior, but we were wrong.

Another thing that fans can expect is to see how their newborn baby affects their form of lifestyle. There is a common saying that a baby can change people for the better. But Henry, nicknamed “Forty”, could not change Love or Joe permanently from their past. Throughout the season both admit they are perfect for each other but not enough for their child. They prove to be good parents but can’t hide their own ugliness from Henry

and that fact alone makes their relationship toxic. Both depend on each other to clean their messes up but refuse to stop their ways to ensure their son has a good future.

Each season there is a new setting that Joe must adapt to in order to appear as a normal citizen. This time he chooses a suburban area in Madre Linda to settle down with his family to hopefully escape his wrongdoings in Los Angeles. He keeps the same name of Joe Goldberg just like in season two, same for Love she remains Love Quinn-Goldberg.

Not going to go into detail but you can expect four people dead in season three, and the beloved cage is back in action. To get you caught up, Joe has killed a total of 10 people throughout all three seasons, and Love has killed a total of six people throughout season two and three. Nintendo released an Animal Crossing direct earlier this month discussing what was to come for the game’s first major update since its release last year. Here are a few highlights from the direct.

One of the biggest appeals of the update for fans was the return of beloved character Brewster. For those unfamiliar with Brewster runs a small cafe, The Roost located in the museum.

There you can meet up with villagers or other players alike to drink coffee. While Brewster is a friendly fan favorite, we’ve heard you should be weary if he offers you pigeon milk with your coffee.

Another character being welcomed to the island is Kapp’n. He will be a second transit option added if you want to leave your island. This character takes you to different and mysterious islands to forage in. Not only is he competition for Dodo Airlines, but Kapp’n will also rival K.K. Slider as he serenades with new tunes as you ride along to your unmarked locations.

Harv’s island will also be getting a face lift.

Harriet, another Animal Crossing Character favorite from the past, will be joining the island

to help turn it into a shopping super center. With the right amount of bell donations shops can be opened up for your favorite island visitors like Kicks and Sarah. Players will no longer have to wait for them to show up for a visit.

Additionally, there have been many quality of life updates added in. There are more storage options in home as well as additional storage that can be added outside. There will be another Automatic Bell Dispenser (ABD) that you can add on the island for easy access to quick cash. A new way to move around your home even if your objects create a tight squeeze to move by. Permanent ladders can be set up on the island instead of shelling out the big bells for a new incline. However, if you do have the bells they’ve also increased the incline and bridge cap to ten instead of eight.

The update will take place next Friday and requires no additional purchases necessary.

Best and worst Halloween candy of 2021 Kerri Hoover Ad/Design Editor and News Editor kah4338@lockhaven.edu Candy is at the top of every kid’s (and college student’s) Halloween wish-list. However, what makes or breaks a treasured trick-or-treating experience is the kind of candy that is handed out.

We want good candy. The Reese’s Cups. The Hershey chocolate bars. The Snickers. You will never find those treats left over in the candy stash. Avoid a spooky disaster this fall by checking out the compromised lists of the best and worst Halloween candy of 2021.

Online candy wholesaler, Candy Store ranked America’s favorite Halloween treats along with each of the 50 states in late September. To calculate the results, Candy Store used data to determine how many pounds of candy the company sold in the last 14 years. An interactive map was included on the company’s website showcasing the top-three favorite Halloween candies for every U.S. state.

Reese’s Cups are the number one purchased candy, according to Candy Store’s research. Thus, making them America’s most popular Halloween treat.

Also making the top-five list includes Skittles, M&M’s, Starburst, and Hot Tamales.

In recent months, have you seen an influencer or celebrity on social media peddling the auction of a digital artwork through a strange site? If so, you are seeing this year’s NFT trend in action.

What is an NFT? According to Forbes, NFT stands for non-fungible token and is “a digital asset that represents a real-world object” that is purchased online, usually with cryptocurrencies. What this means is that it is essentially a virtual ticket that states someone, the buyer of said ticket, is the owner of that item. However, the existence and purchase of these tickets, as well as the codes used to generate them, are extremely harmful for the environment as well as artists.

The environmental harm caused by NFTs stems from what is used to generate these virtual tickets.

NFTs are generated using blockchain technology, that very same used for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, and they have a high energy cost that accumulates over time with every ticket that is made. The more cryptomining you do, the more greenhouse gases that are released—thus equating to more harm done to the environment.

Many NFT and crypto supporters will claim to be “eco-friendly” or pass the harm done by digital currencies off as inexistent. To make matters worse, it is these beliefs that are held as true by the majority, as well as people just getting into NFTs, due to the high status held by the people who advocate for them. This is not to mention the less extreme, though still notable, harm it does to artists who do not consent to their work being used.

Many people intending to auction NFTs will claim the art is either original or commissioned. However, this is not always the case. There have been many cases of scammers stealing artwork and attempting to sell them as NFTs, including one very infamous case where a deceased artist named Qing Han, or

Qinni, had her art stolen and listed on NFT sites in April 2021, not one year after her death.

Her brother, Ze, tweeted about the situation on April 18, saying, “Regardless on what side of the debate you’re on about that, that’s just a morally shitty thing to do. So, please stop profiting off of my dead sister.” This does not even mention smaller artists who have their work stolen and feel helpless to stop it, mainly attributed to lack of influence.

Of course, there are some artists the auctioning of NFTs has helped, but the harm to the environment and artists who do not consent to their work being used is essential to consider and should not be ignored. So the next time you see someone famous jumping on the NFT bandwagon, it’s probably best to educate those unaware of the very real dangers it presents.

Candy Corn is bad Cassandra Keller cmk2356@lockhaven.edu Managing Editor Candy is one of the most important elements of the spooky season. Many people tend to think about all the chocolates and fruity candies that line the shelves this time of year, but one candy in particular makes me cringe when it is brought up as someone’s favorite: Candy Corn.

Now I believe people have a right to like what they like, but I can not understand why someone would enjoy the wax flavored sweet that is candy corn. This candy orgining in the 1880s as “Chicken feed” is far from the peak tier of all halloween candy. Candy corn wasn’t even considered a halloween candy until the 1950s. Before it was a “penny candy” that was marketed to be affordable for year-round enjoyment.

The piece that really sells it for me as a terrible candy is when candy corn was first made, it was made with carnauba wax. For those of you who don’t know, carnauba wax can be used to make various waxes and polishes as well as candy corn. I wasn’t kidding about that wax flavor.

On top of that, that recipe has hardly changed since its creation in 1880. So you are basically eating the same candy your great great grandpappy was eating. The multiple colors on candy corn are not even different fla-

vors, but rather just different colors of the same “mallow creme”. I’m not saying there has to be recipe changes for candy to be good, but some change can be.

Now some of you may be arguing that there are different kinds of candy corn or that certain candy corn flavored delights are great. For that I’ll have to agree with you. Over the years companies like Nabisco have created candy corn spin offs like candy corn oreos, which I’m sure taste great and lack that original candy corn wax.

Even creations like candy corn-coated popcorn can be delicious when made right.

My point is, however, that candy corn isn’t a good candy on its own or at the very least isn’t the best halloween candy out there.But of course, that doesn’t stop candy corn from making fourth on the best halloween candy list for 2021 or getting about 35 million pounds of it made in the U.S. in 2016. So at the end of the day, your candy favorites are still your own personal opinions, even if the ones about candy corn being good are wrong.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (10-2-2, 8-1-1 PSAC East) cruised to a dominant, 4-0, win over Shepherd University (2-14, 1-9 PSAC East) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Wednesday evening.

The Bald Eagles got off to a f lying start in the first half and pushed two goals past the Shepherd goalkeeper. Zane Puhala (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) found the net in the 21st minute off a through ball from Samuel Hershey (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey).

Hershey added another assist on LHU’s second goal when he sent a low cross across the box, which found the foot of Beckham Sibiski (Kutztown, Pa./ Kutztown H.S.). The strike marked Sibiski’s fifth goal on the season and Hershey’s sixth assist.

After his two helpers in the first half, Hershey got in on the scoring himself, finishing off a rebound off a ranged effort in the 48th minute to stretch the LHU lead to 3-0.

Dean Lewis (Belfast, Northern Ireland/Model Boys School), who gathered an assist on Hershey’s goal, rounded out the Bald Eagles scoring with a beautiful-curled effort from the corner of the box.

Ryan Foskey (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) picked up an assist on the goal after laying the ball off to Lewis for The Haven’s fourth goal.

Goalkeepers Aitor Ruiz de Eguilaz (Euskadi, Spain/Koldo Mitxelena (Robert Morris)) and Brady Freiwald (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) combined for the clean sheet as a team, and each made one save as the Bald Eagle defense was stif ling.

The back four of Chase Tackett (Bethlehem, Pa./ Liberty), David Dries (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson), Connor Burke (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and Lewis combined to limit the Rams to just two shots on goal all night long. Justin Douglas (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) also tracked back well defensively from midfield to help preserve the clean sheet.

Entering today’s home match with Shepherd, Lock Haven had already clinched a PSAC postseason berth, thanks to Saturday’s (Oct. 23) win over Bloomsburg. Coming into today’s action, Lock Haven and West Chester – both PSAC Eastern Division sides – were the only two teams to have clinched PSAC postseason berths. LHU’s last PSAC tournament appearance was in 2015.

As the Lock Haven University women’s basketball team prepares for the upcoming 2021-22 season, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) released its annual coaches’ poll and the Bald Eagles were picked to f inish f if th in the Eastern Division.

When the Bald Eagles f inally return to the court on November 16 to host Frostburg State it will mark 624 days since their last off icial competition.

Prior to the off icial start of the regular season, The Haven travels to Division I opponent Miami (Ohio) for an exhibition match on November 6.

Af ter a nearly two-year long hiatus from competition, Lock Haven returns to the PSAC season ranked f if th in the Eastern Division and LHU is coming off two straight appearances in the PSAC postseason.

Shippensburg was tabbed as the favorites in the Eastern Division, gathering f ive of the nine f irst-place votes, while Shepherd f inished second with the remaining four f irst-place votes. Kutztown and East Stroudsburg were picked third and fourth, respectively, just ahead of the Bald Eagles.

Rounding out the division was Bloomsburg, West Chester, Millersville and Mansf ield.

Gannon, the defending 2019-20 PSAC champions, was picked as the favorite in the Western Division with four of the nine f irst-place votes. Indiana (Pa.) was placed second in the poll, also receiving four f irstplace votes, while Cal U rounded out the top-three. Mercyhurst was picked to f inish fourth and collected the f inal f irst-place

LHU returns a number of key players from the 2019-20 season, including six players who featured in at least 25 games for the Bald Eagles. Sophomore guard Marena Lonardi returns to The Haven as the leading scorer from the 2019-20 season at 13.4 points per game. Senior forward Ahnera Parker brings double-f igures back for LHU at 10.5 points per game, while boasting an impressive 46.7 percent from the f ield. The Haven also return leading rebounder Jaynelle Robinson, who hauled in a PSAC second-best 258 total rebounds. Junior Taylor Leidy brings back her statsheet stuff ing ability, the guard notched 7.8 points per game while also grabbing 3.2 rebounds per game and handing out 2.8 assists per game.
