Lock Haven University keeps its name and identity through integretion Julie Stellfox Media Relations Director cmk2356@lockhaven.edu Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield Universities have honored the commitment to maintain each institution’s historic names and identities through integration.

Each campus will continue to use its respective location name - Bloomsburg University, Lock Haven University, and Mansfield University - maintaining the use of the word University, existing logos, colors, mascots, and traditions. Diplomas will prominently display either Bloomsburg University, Lock Haven University, or Mansfield University at the top of the document according to each graduate’s location of choice.

On March 2, 2022, the State System Board of Governors unanimously approved the name Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania to represent the integrated entity for Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield Universities.

The selection of Commonwealth University as the name for the integrated entity serves the Middle States accreditation of the institution, and other accreditation and contractual purposes. Commonwealth University will not serve as a public-facing identifier, but will remain in the background, allowing the universities to legally and compliantly become one entity while maintaining our strong brands in our regions and beyond.

The integrated university name was developed through extensive research and with input from students, alumni, faculty, staff, trustees, the community and prospective students and their families.

Dr. Bashar Hanna, president of Bloomsburg University and interim president of Lock Haven and Mansfield universities said, “we are proud that each university’s name will remain prominent across our

campuses and in our ongoing outreach to families across the state as we showcase the power of our three universities through the breadth of educational experiences accessible to current and future students. The continued engagement of our communities is shaping the future of our universities and enabling educational opportunities for generations to come. We are changing the trajectory of public higher education for the hard-working citizens of Pennsylvania.”

The integration of Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield universities is a bold investment in the communities and people of Pennsylvania to expand high-quality, affordable academic opportunities to support the needs of all learners.

Together, the institutions will maximize experiential learning and career preparation, while continuing vibrant on-campus student experiences. The power of these three universities together harnesses opportunity for growth, increased access for students, and serves as a catalyst for economic and workforce development in our region, across the Commonwealth, and beyond.

“Since the beginning of the integration process we have committed to retaining the local names and identities of Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield universities, acknowledging that they are the heartbeats of the communities they serve. Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24. This came after weeks of building up troops on the Russian-Ukrainian border.

According to India Today, over 2000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed, as well as over 2000 troops. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that over 9,000 Russian troops have been killed, however Russia released a statement on March 2 that stated only 498 troops have been killed.

Since Putin ordered the invasion, several major Ukrainian cities have come under military bombardment, including its capital city of Kyiv, and its second largest city Kharkiv.

According to the Hindustan Times, Kyiv has been completely cut off from water, food, and other necessary supplies. Kharkiv has been a target of Russia since the first day of the invasion.

Russia has also taken control of Chernobyl, the sight of the worst nuclear disaster in history.

As of March 3, Kherson, the first major city in Ukraine, has been taken over by Russia. The city has a population of about 300,000 and is in the south of Ukraine.

According to the Hindustan Times, the mayor of Kherson said that Russian troops came to the city’s administration building, and that he asked the soldiers to not shoot civilians, and to allow them to gather bodies from the streets.

On March 2, the United Nations held a vote to

condemn the actions of Russia. 141 countries voted to condemn the aggression of Russia and expressed that all Russian troops in Ukraine should immediately withdraw. 35 countries abstained from taking any position, including India and China, and 4 countries voted to support Russia, which were North Korea, Belarus, Eritrea, and Syria.

President Zelenskyy responded to the vote by tweeting “I’m grateful to everyone & every state that voted in favor. You have chosen the right side of history” and added that the results “convincingly show that a global anti-Putin coalition has been formed and is functioning. The world is with us. The truth is on our side.”

After over a week of conflict, Ukraine and Russia have both agreed to create safe corridors to allow for civilian evacuation. This means that both countries will observe a cease-fire in certain areas in order to allow the safe exit of civilians, and for humanitarian supplies to be delivered, according to USA Today.

On the morning of March 3, Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, held a call with Putin regarding the invasion.

According to Reuters, Putin told Macron that “Russia would achieve the goals of its military intervention in Ukraine whatever happens.” According to the Washington Post, Macron is the only Western leader to have had consistent contact with Putin since the invasion began. Macron stated after his call with Putin, he believes “the worst is yet to come.”

1. The Old Black Hen by Songs: Ohia A classic song from indie country musician Jason Molina under the Songs: Ohia moniker. He always knew how to capture a mellow, yet energetic tune with the perfect melancholic atmosphere.

If the winter months have your mental health down in the slumps, you may be experiencing seasonal depression. Seasonal depression’s proper name is seasonal affective disorder, and its symptoms and impact can vary based on the individual. This article will include five tips on how to combat seasonal depression from a person who experiences seasonal depression.

1. Involve more self-care activities in your daily routine. Being in a depressive state of mind can make people lose touch with themselves. It’s important to do activities that bring happiness to yourself as a reminder that everything is going to be okay even if your thoughts contradict that. Surround yourself with people that make you internally feel good.

2. Your friends and family want to see you happy, so the worst thing you can do is shut out people that deeply care about your wellbeing. However, it’s okay to cut people off who come between you and your peace of mind.

3. Create weekly schedules to follow. There is some kind of serotonin from checking off that you completed something. This serves as a reminder that you are capable of doing anything you wish to achieve for days when motivation is low.

4. Go on a date with yourself. This solo date doesn’t need to break your bank, you can spend the whole day doing things you simply enjoy just by yourself. Doing this can put into perspective that all you need in life is yourself, and how important it is to take care of yourself for yourself.

5. Talk to someone, if possible. Whether it’s with a therapist, a counselor at your school, or just a quick vent to a friend, it’s important you get the feelings out, at the very least. Bottling up those emotions will only make you feel worse and lead to possible meltdowns in the future.

However you’re feeling this winter, it’s important not to fall prey to negative trains of thoughts. Remember to prioritize your physical and emotional wellbeing above anything and take time for yourself when possibile.

Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso- This drink is great for all my coffee lovers who enjoy that coffee taste and sugar blend. Not only is it dairy free and tastes good… the drink allows customers to try alternatives and broaden their Starbucks drinks.

White Chocolate Mocha- During the colder months, it’s nice to have something simple and sweet to warm you up. You could also get it iced, but I prefer to get it warm because it’s

similar to hot chocolate, except it tastes like espresso. Get it with whipped cream for an even better experience.

Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino- This is my absolute go-to for one reason: it is essentially a caramel milkshake. While yes, there is a little bit of coffee in it, it is hidden behind the delicious caramel flavor. Even if you don’t really like coffee or are starting to get into sweeter coffee flavors, it is an all-round perfect drink for you! I always go for the small (a.k.a. the “tall”) option.

Hot Chocolate- Nothing hits better than a classic cup of hot cocoa. When I’ve had a long day of work I need something hot and sweet, so I drive myself over to Starbucks and grab the world’s best hot drink ever invented—hot chocolate.

Pistachio Frappuccino- The perfect nostalgic flavor to savor during the winter months. This sweet, rich drink is best enjoyed late at night, curled up in a blanket in front of a warm fire or a heater. If you’re a fan of something simple but sweet, this drink is the perfect way to go.

Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino- I adore cookie flavored anything, so this is an obvious pick for me. Anything that resembles Hershey’s cookies and cream chocolate bars make me giddy. Plus mocha thrown into the blend? It is pure perfection!

As spring break steadily approaches, many people are planning or have planned what they want to do during their week off classes.

Though some people prefer to indulge themselves extravagantly or go on expensive vacations during their breaks, I honestly believe a low-key approach to your time off is much easier (and much less taxing for your wallet).

Think about it. Especially given the state of the world right now, is it really better to go somewhere with a lot of people?

Also, it’s hardly even spring. Shouldn’t all the fun stuff come in summer, when you have a lot more free time and don’t have to worry about deadlines while you’re not home?

A spring break spent at home or only with close friends, however, sounds much less stress inducing. Besides, there’s plenty of activities to do at home, as well.

There’s nothing wrong with taking things easy over the break, either. Whether it’s taking time to yourself to catch up on a TV show, go on a Netflix binge marathon, or just talk to your friends or scroll through your phone mindlessly for hours, it’s important to take breaks from the regular hustleand-bustle so you don’t wind up burnt out or stressed (while also keeping your responsibilities at the back of your mind, of course).

Even something as simple as taking up a new hobby or adopting a daily routine for the week can be an interesting way to spend your time.

Chances are I’m going to do next to nothing exciting over the break, but it’s nice to know I can take the chance to breathe and not think about class or worldly affairs for a little while.

Ranking the top 5 amusement parks in Pennsylvania Ashley Lawson Staff Writer ael9097@lockhaven.edu

Everybody loves amusement parks, but it can be hard to choose where to plan your trip.

Here is a ranking of my top 5 parks you can find around Pennsylvania 1. Hersheypark - I’ll start with the negative here. Hersheypark is expensive. Really expensive. It can be argued that it’s worth the cost.

I personally don’t go here unless I’m receiving a group rate for tickets, as I am a poor college student. It does, however, have some of the best rollercoasters on the east coast. Stormrunner is my personal favorite, but this park is home to the first looped coaster on the east coast, the sooperdooperLooper. Their water park, The Boardwalk, is very well done and is the best water park in the state that’s connected to an amusement park.

2. Knoebels - This park’s greatest perk is that parking and entry is entirely free! It’s a great destination if you’re on a budget or if you’re traveling with people who aren’t interested in getting onto any of the attractions.

Knoebels is also home to the very famous Phoenix. This coaster genuinely makes me question it’s safety every time I ride— the amount of airtime really makes me think that I’m about to be thrown off, but that’s why it’s so beloved by coaster enthusiasts like myself.

3. Kennywood - The pride of Pittsburgh (in my eyes, at least). It was officially designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1987! It home to arguably one of the best coasters in the world—Phantom’s Revenge, the successor to Steel Phantom. They also have some very

“on brand” theming with an entire section of the park being dedicated to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

4. Waldameer - Waldameer is the shining star of Erie/Presque Isle. It has a great mix of attractions, making this a great park for all ages. The Ravine Flyer II has such an interesting history, and I’m glad that they were able to revive the spirit of the original Ravine Flyer.

The water park here is highly regarded so many people who have visited this park.

5. Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom Dorney Park is a great park with so many attractions for patrons of all ages. They also have great seasonal events such as Halloween Haunt. Owned by Cedar Fair, the company that owns the beloved Cedar Point in Ohio, I sometimes feel as though this park is overlooked as they don’t seem to get many new additions.

On top of earning GoLHU.com Athlete of the Week honors, Kevin Worek has earned Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Pitcher of the Week honors and grabbed the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week award after his shut-out start versus Nyack.

Worek started on the mound in Sunday’s 11-0 win over Nyack. The sophomore picked up the win on five tremendous innings of work. Worek struck out 13 of his 17 batters faced and allowed just one hit, one walk and no earned runs.

The sophomore’s 13 strikeout tally is the most in a single game for a Bald Eagle pitcher since 2017 and is tied for the second-most in the PSAC this season.

Jessica Johnson was one of five Bald Eagles to qualify for the NCWWC National Championship this weekend, by way of her runner-up finish at the NCWWC Northeast Regional tournament.

Johnson finished the day with a second-place finish but her road to the championship bout was equally as impressive. Johnson followed her opening win by decision with a pin over Delaware Valley’s Gorgeous Lee in just 46 seconds. In the semifinals, Johnson added a tech-fall over Gannon’s Gabby Malinowski to advance to the first-place bout.

FIFA to suspend Russia from competing in 2022 World Cup Alex Ross A&E Section Editor Amr1884@lockhaven.edu

Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) announced on Monday Russia would be ejected from qualifying for the 2022 World Cup playoffs. This decision is a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in the past week.

As news of the invasion spread throughout the media, national football teams announced their refusal to play against Russia’s team. Czech Republic, Poland, and Sweden were all in agreement to not face Russia in upcoming tournaments. Other countries followed quickly behind them, like England, Poland, The United States, and France.

After pressure from teams and federation representatives, FIFA placed penalties for Russia’s interference with Ukraine, but this led to outrage from teams across the world. Cezary Kulesza, the head of Poland’s football team, felt the decision was “unacceptable” in an interview with The Atlantic. Even with the penalty placed, teams that represent Albania, Denmark, and Switzerland announced their solidarity with other nations.

However, after further consideration, FIFA went ahead and announced the ban. The federation’s ban would be placed on the nation “until further notice.” The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), FIFA’s European counterpart, also announced a similar ban.

A game between France and Russia was

planned for March 24 in Moscow, but that is now no longer on the table. Games involving the Russian team or games taking place in Russia have all been canceled as well.

The International Olympic Committee has also called for all sports federations across the globe to prohibit Russian teams and athletes in games.

This is due to Russia breaking the Olympic Truce by invading Ukraine. The Russia Football Union (R.F.U.) has called the bans all discriminatory and considers putting forth legal action against FIFA and the UEFA. With these bans and prohibitions set, the immediate future for Russia in international sports has been left up in the air. Further action in Ukraine by Russian forces could mean more bans and outrage from other international sport federations.
