A note from the Editors Hello and welcome back to another edition of the Rishworth Reporter. We've had a super busy time in our EE class producing lots of content which hopefully you will enjoy reading throughout this edition. Well done to the team for their hard work in putting it all together! This is our last edition of the Reporter before we break up for Easter and it's been great to see the whole school, including Heathfield, celebrating this special time of the year. I know we are both looking forward to welcoming new students to our EE club for the Trinity term as we continue to develop and grow the Rishworth Reporter. Remember, the it's the best EE club to choose, so if you haven't done already, make sure you're part of our team next time the options become available! Tips on how to prioritise you With the daily routine and tasks, it can be difficult to find a moment to relax and take some time for yourself. Here are some ideas you can try this week, hopefully you will enjoy yourself! Go for a walk - some exercise in the fresh air is always a great way to clear your mind Tune out the technology - if only for a while, it may be nice without the constant notifications and gossip Binge your favourite show - spend a whole day just finishing that season without any other care in the world Baking - nothing is better than cake on a bad day, the more chocolate the better! Sleep - this is so important, yet we all are guilty of neglecting it, with a proper good night's rest who knows what all you can get done! As important as it is to help your friends, it is even more so to take care of yourself from time to time. Have fun!

About: Spider-Man: No Way Home hit theatres back in December and begins where Spider-Man: Far From Home left off. Our friendly neighbourhood superhero's secret identity has now been revealed, bringing his responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk.
About: Ghostbusters: Afterlife hit the theatres in November 2021 and is about a single mum and her two kids who arrive in a small town. They begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.
What I think: Spider-Man: No Way Home is a cinematic masterpiece and was amazingly pieced together by John Watts (who directed Clown, 2014 and Cop Car 2015). The film really is an extraordinary movie in my opinion because it expresses a series of emotions throughout the film, whilst also being exciting and full of action. The ending is the best part as there are returns from old stars and perhaps a crossover from another movie as well. But I don't want to give too much away! Should you watch it? 100%. It's a brilliant film and one you're pretty much guaranteed to love. Check it out now if you haven't already.
What I think: Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a mashup of spooky and spectacular fun, with returns and introductions to some of the actors you love. The movie itself was directed by Jason Reitman who has directed movies such as Tully (2018), Juno (2007) and Up in the Air (2009). Ghostbusters: Afterlife in my opinion is a true spine-chilling, striking movie full of dramatic twists and turns and the odd splash of humour. Should you watch it? I really liked it, so I’d say yes. I mean, I’ve watched worse films, but also seen better films, so it’s kind of the middle of the road for me. But I think you’ll enjoy it – check it out if you can.

Our planet is our home remember that!
Over the past term, Science Club has been action packed with various really interesting and exciting experiments! Recently we have been experimenting with electrons.
Our planet is our home, our source of living. Yet all the time, across the news, all around us, we see examples of people mistreating and taking advantage of all the resources Earth has to offer.
The physics of passing electrons:
Environmental wellness is a process where people learn and contribute to the surroundings and health of the planet. All over the world, people ditch their old ways, and opt for new sustainable choices, protecting and looking after natural environments, and appreciating the beauty of nature.
When an atom has a negative charge, it will collide with a positively charged atom. During this process, the negatively charged atoms excess electrons to the atom that has a positive charge. This will create a flow of electricity. This explanation fits perfectly with what our practical was in Science Club. When we were rubbing the balloons on a blazer, it was causing the electrons to pass from the blazer to the balloon. This meant that when we turned the tap on, the electrons attached to the balloon were able to bend the water. The physics of bending water with electrons Water is full of polar molecules (a molecule that is charged with a positive charge on one of the sides, and a negative charge on the other). Since we were experimenting with electrons, the polar molecules are attracted to the electrons. So, when the charged balloon came in contact with the water, they reacted. They reacted by bending the water. Amazing!
Here are some easy ideas you can try to implement, saving the planet, one deed at a time: Saving energy - it may not seem like much, but in the long run, remembering to turn off the switch can make a huge difference for the planet and your bills! Eat less meat - the production of meat is one of the biggest contributors to climate change, no one is asking you to turn vegetarian, but skipping the meat for one or two days a week, is not only beneficial for less pollution but is great for your health as well. Reusable alternatives - single use plastics end up littered in our oceans and wildlife, simple type into your search engine to find out which reusable alternatives you can bring into your day to day life!

Will letter writing live on?
One of the most popular EE options is the Rishworth Ramblers. The club mainly involves walking through remote areas of beautiful countryside close to Rishworth School and Heathfield Prep. There has been a surprising amount of fun walks and we really enjoy rambling through woods and fields.
Many may consider the art of letter writing a thing of the past, but amongst teenagers and young people the support for pen palling is growing. Instagram accounts dedicated to finding pen pals and showcasing beautiful letter decoration are becoming increasingly frequent.
We often go down to Snow Wood which is a large wood close to Rishworth which is very calming and peaceful. There are all sorts of wildlife nearby including ducks that are often swimming on the pond. There are all sorts of garden birds along the road and loads of other places to explore nearby.
So, what's fuelling this new enthusiasm? In an age of digital communication surely it would make more sense to talk to friends across the world via text rather than snail mail? In actual fact, the wait times are part of the appeal. The anticipation of arriving letters, beautiful decorations, and sometimes small gifts such as tea makes a refreshing change from the bright screens of social media and can be much less overwhelming. There's also the appeal of not having to worry about time zones for when your pen pal will be awake.
We also walk up into the hills behind Sam’s Sweet Shop. The countryside around Rishworth is very beautiful and there are so many paths you can walk along. They all take you through fields and rural roads. It is hard to lose your way as you don’t really lose sight of the village and can use it as a point of reference. The walk to top pitch is also a nice little challenge.
There are also some good walks in the village itself. If you go down the road past Sam’s Sweet Shop, turn the corner and continue down the pavement you will find a wide but hard to notice path that you can walk down. This leads to an old bridge and then a woodland walk by a river. One of the best walks is by the dam at Boothwood. If you walk across you can enjoy a woodland walk that merges into the countryside. There is also a walk down beneath the dam that is very calming and peaceful. Rishworth Ramblers is a great club and lets you enjoy the beauties of nature. It is great to be part of it and many thanks to the teachers who run it. It’s a great club and a good surprise for us every week to see where we’re going.
There is a certain magic in seeing the handwriting of your friends, pinning postcards from their home to your wall, and hearing about their little corner of the world. And of course, the reverse applies; creating something beautiful and sharing aspects of your life with someone who has chosen to do the same for you is incredibly therapeutic. Pen palling may be something you’re thinking of trying, and it's incredibly easy to get started with. Social media accounts and websites are incredibly useful for finding pen pals, and all you need is basic stationary and a book of stamps.

Harry Potter, Spiderman and Willy Wonka were just a few of the stars hanging around Rishworth and Heathfield Prep recently as the school celebrated World Book Day 2022! Students and staff from across the school took part in dressing up as their favourite characters to mark the 25th anniversary of the day, which highlights and encourages children and young people to read every day. At Heathfield Prep, children even hosted a bake sale to raise money for the charity, which distributes tens of thousands of books to children each year. Crimson Frosting: Who? Crimson Frosting is featured in every edition, it is a short story produced by one of our talented Rishworth Reporter writers. A lucky escape from Mrs Lovelace’s grasp, and the patting of my shoes on wet concrete as I sprint to the Baker’s. Sirens have faded but even so the somewhat existing noise of panic runs through my ears. Barnabus, Bill, the past… Am I certain that they are involved? No, but perhaps a look at the crime scene and an insight of the situation may help and rest my worries.
Prep time: 10 minutes Serves: 4 Ingredients 2 tbsp olive oil 12 beef meatballs 1 onion, finely sliced 2 mixed peppers, sliced ½ large bunch coriander, leaves and stalks chopped 2 large garlic cloves, crushed 1 tsp hot smoked paprika 2 tsp ground cumin 1 heaped tbsp light brown soft sugar 2 x 400g cans chopped tomatoes 2 x 400g cans black beans, drained and rinsed cooked rice, to serve Method Heat the oil in a large flameproof casserole dish over a medium heat. Fry the meatballs for 5 mins or until browned, then transfer to a plate with a slotted spoon. Then, fry the onion and peppers with a pinch of salt for 7 mins. Add the coriander stalks, garlic, paprika and cumin and fry for 1 min more. Tip in the sugar, tomatoes and beans, and bring to a simmer. Season, return the meatballs to the pan and cook, covered, for 15 mins. Serve the chilli with the rice and the coriander leaves scattered over. Eat and enjoy!
The yellow tape, several caps of blue all come into view. I pant, rubbing the droplets of water that have settled on my forehead. An officer with a pen and pad in hand notices me first, lowering his glasses to wipe them on his sleeve. “You can’t be here,” he holds his hand out to my face which makes me halt in my steps. I make an attempt to look over his shoulder, seeing nothing but a few officers. “What’s happened?” I ask. “Nothing that concerns you kid.” His aggressive tone takes me by surprise but I brush it off. “I heard a murder, any suspects?” I try to reason. The officer looks to the side, before bending down to my level and bringing his voice to a shallow whisper. “The Baker seems to have a few enemies…according to a diary kept on his person.” A diary? “Him and Dolores were something a couple years back before ending when she came with his child…” Dolores? “Dolores who?” I question. “Dolores Lovelace.” To be continued…
Featured articles Is Minecraft the game for you? Minecraft is a sandbox game (a game which the player can choose how to play with no limits) that was created by Mojang Studios in 2011. In Minecraft, there is a single player and multiplayer mode known as ‘Survival’. This mode means that your character can take damage by anything such as: fire, water, suffocation, zombies, skeletons, creepers (a monster who will explode in a small proximity) and so much more within the game. Within the mode, there is a story to the game, with the aim of the story to find and kill the ‘Ender Dragon’ who is kept in another dimension which the player has to venture to. Throughout the journey, you will have to enter the fire dimension known as ‘The Nether’ where you will have to venture to a fortress to collect a rare ingredient known as a ‘Blaze Rod’. Be careful, this ingredient can only come from defeating a blaze. Minecraft’s community has an extremely positive and motivated player base. Since 2011, Minecraft has amassed from a couple of hundred, to 141 million players worldwide. Throughout its history, the community has constantly been applying their opinions towards the game and how it could be better. Thankfully, Minecraft does sometimes listen. This community has held events such as: MCC (Minecraft Championship), Minecraft Monday (Technoblade), Built the World: Minecraft edition, Minecraft live and Minecon. Throughout this game, Minecraft has continuously been developing on various platforms. From streaming to YouTube videos, this game has spread across the internet.
To summarise, I think that Minecraft is a perfect game for all ages. The game is time consuming and adventurous. With this game being a sandbox game, your control is limitless. If this is your first time playing a game, Minecraft is a perfect option.

Will things improve for me? Concerned, 14. Hello, it is important to try and not get overwhelmed as upsetting as a break up can be. Whilst worrying and upsetting things happen every day, you must remember that so many positive and good things go on as well. Try to focus on small, happy things that are going on in your life, though I know it is not as easy as it sounds. Perhaps start with a list of 10 things every day that you are grateful for - to help you focus on the positive. It's a good idea to talk about this with your friends and family, as they will have likely had relationship issues at some point, and they'll be able to offer you some helpful advice. Perhaps go off social media for a few days, focus on yourself and do things you enjoy. Hope this helps, Auntie Pat Dear Auntie Pat, there is the girl in my class and she is so mean to me. Every time I say an answer and it’s wrong in class she says “oh my gosh how stupid are you” and it makes me feel really sad. What should I do? Worried, 12. Hello, first of all, never think these things are true, very often people will say mean things because they are jealous of you doing well. At least you are participating and raising your hand to answer questions, that initiative is more important than getting the answer wrong or right. It is really nasty of her saying these things, but you can’t let it get to you, you are doing well and learning from your mistakes. You can’t ever let someone treat you like this, especially as it is making you upset. You could confront her with a friend, tell her that you don’t like the way she is speaking to you, and ask her to stop. Use an assertive and calm tone, this will show that YOU are confident and in control, especially if she is just trying to be malicious. If after speaking to her she continues to be mean, you should talk to a teacher or someone you trust about how you are feeling, especially if this has been going on for a while. I know that nobody likes to think of themselves as a ‘snitch’, but it is always the right move to speak out whenever someone else makes you feel uncomfortable or upset. Hope this helps, Auntie Pat

He was an important figure in the 1960’s as he was a big name in the bright and colourful pop-art movement which propelled him to becoming one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century. Lots of Hockney’s art pieces are normal paintings when not coloured in, but when he starts to decorate the scene, that is when his paintings come to life. Featured articles The growth of YouTube Throughout recent years, YouTube has grown into a major part of society and people’s lives around the world. It was released on December 15th in 2005, with its first video titled “Me at the Zoo” made by the channel “Jawed”, which was run by the co-founder Jawed Karim. Staggeringly, the site has an average of 720,000 hours of footage uploaded each day. This makes it nearly impossible for content to go viral, but there are people out there who manage it. Notable examples include Mr Beast (91 million subscribers) and Ryan's World (32.3 million subscribers). These big names started out just as normal people who had a camera and a dream. They followed their ambitions, and now make millions as mainstream celebrities and influencers.
