MONDAY AT HEATHFIELD All of the following are options available for children to choose on a Monday at Heathfield: Kayaking (Y6-13) Kayaking is a perfect way for beginners to start water sports and is a great way to gain the health benefits of improved cardiovascular fitness and muscle strength. A kayak is a small, narrow watercraft that is typically propelled by a double-bladed paddle. Have fun, improve your technique, and enjoy being on the water. This club lasts for the first 8 weeks of the Michaelmas term, due to reduction in daylight hours as the term progresses. Hollingworth Lake (additional cost £80 for 6 sessions)
Reading and Crafts Café (Y1-2) A zen like experience; an opportunity to explore facts and fiction or to create a crafty masterpiece. MONDAY AT RISHWORTH All of the following are options available for students to choose on a Monday at Rishworth: Circuit Training (Y10-11) Circuit training is a combination of six or more exercises performed with short rest periods between them for either a set number of repetitions or a prescribed amount of time. One circuit is when all of the chosen exercises have been completed. Circuit training offers a full body workout designed to improve your strength, endurance, muscle growth and cardiovascular health. A club designed for those studying GCSE Maths (Foundation). Attendance at this club will provide you with additional support outside of class, to develop your competence and fluency with the mathematical concepts covered by iGCSE.

Industrial Cadet (Y12) Joining this activity will provide you with the opportunity to work on a real-life STEM project set by a Company! You develop key work-ready skills, technical skills and explore what opportunities are available to you in Industry, including apprenticeship and graduate routes. You and your team will spend 20 weeks partnered with a company to complete a real-life project, which will incorporate University workshops and webinars from a host of STEM professionals and organisations. At the end of the Scheme, you will graduate as Gold-level Industrial Cadets, a nationally recognised award that you can use as evidence of your experience and take forward to complement your future applications and career journey. Learn how to code from scratch, become a coder and develop one of the most employer demanded skills of 2022. Coding club will provide you with an introduction to the skills and knowledge you require to kickstart your passion for coding.

Did you know that the world of board and card games is much wider? In Beyond Monopoly, you'll have the chance to experience some different games that have built upon the foundations of these classics but are more contemporary and offer many different playing styles. Duke of Edinburgh - Bronze (Y9+) The Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award is a nationally accredited, highly recognised accolade. Students will participate in expedition training during this EE time, they will also need to complete 3-6 months volunteering, a skill and a physical challenge of their choice. F1 in Schools (Invite Only) F1 in Schools work with committed partners to provide an exciting yet challenging educational experience through the magnetic appeal of Formula 1. F1 in Schools is the only global multi-disciplinary challenge in which teams of students aged 9 to 19 deploy CAD/CAM software to collaborate, design, analyse, manufacture, test, and then race miniature compressed air powered cars made from F1 model block. It is a unique global platform for the promotion of Formula 1 and partners to a youth market. Teams must raise sponsorship and manage budgets to fund research, travel, and accommodation. The challenge inspires students to use IT to learn about physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture, branding, graphics, sponsorship, marketing, leadership/teamwork, media skills and financial strategy, and apply them in a practical, imaginative, competitive, and exciting way. *Please note, this club may incur additional charges such as travel and accommodation if the team are successful in entering national and international competitions. Sign Language is a visual means of communicating using gestures, facial expression, and body language. Within Britain the most common form of Sign Language is called British Sign Language (BSL). BSL has its own grammatical structure and syntax, as a language it is not dependant nor is it strongly related to spoken English. BSL is the preferred language of around 145,000 people within the UK (2011).

Pop-Up Play (auditioned) Following the production of ‘The Turn of the Screw’ last year, we will be looking to produce another bone-chilling play for performance in the new School year. This time, we will create the play around the students who would like to be involved, in whatever capacities: as actors, stage managers, lighting / sound engineers – the possibilities are endless. The story will most likely be based upon ‘The Colour out of Space’ but might evolve to provide peculiarly Rishworthian shudders! All those involved in ‘The Turn’ are very welcome indeed, as are any who were not in that production but would like to take part in something new. Please be aware: once casting has taken place, there will be an expectation that a commitment has been made. WEDNESDAY AT RISHWORTH All of the following are options available for students to choose on a Wednesday at Rishworth: Choir (Y7-13) All welcome as we sing a variety of songs as well as taking requests of those in the choir. Music School HPQ (Y10-11) The Higher Project Qualification (HPQ) is a standalone qualification, equivalent to half a GCSE and can be taken by students in addition to their GCSE qualification. The HPQ provides an exciting opportunity for students to develop and extend their understanding in an area of personal interest or to conduct research into subjects which may not be available as part of their other formal studies and as a stepping stone to the EPQ. Students in this club work in pairs to tackle a series of Maths problems. Paired Maths is an effective researchbased approach to developing numeracy skills, confidence, engagement in and motivation towards Maths.
Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor adventure that is happening all the time, all around the world. To play, students use the Geocaching app and/or a GPS device to navigate to cleverly hidden containers called geocaches. There are millions of geocaches located all around the world (we will be exploring the Ryburn Valley).

Raspberry Pi Club (Y7-13) A Raspberry Pi is a capable little device that enables people of all ages to explore computing, and to learn how to program in languages like Scratch and Python. It’s capable of doing everything you’d expect a desktop computer to do, from browsing the internet and playing high-definition video, to making spreadsheets, word-processing, and playing games. Meet Sports Hall
Supercurricular Club (Y11-13) This club provides a forum in which students are actively engaged with the School’s Super Curricular offer. Students are provided with access to thousands of book recommendations, online courses, publications, links to useful websites, podcasts, videos, work experiences, competitions, university events and more all in one place. Universities now see super curricular as a compulsory element of the admissions process. Those actively extending their knowledge stand out amongst other applicants. Room 24
iGCSE English Support (Y10-11) A club designed for those studying GCSE English. Attendance at this club will provide you with additional support outside of class, to develop your competence and fluency with the mathematical concepts covered by iGCSE. Room 4

THURSDAY AT RISHWORTH All of the following are options available for students to choose on a Thursday at Rishworth: Ski Club - Intermediate (Y7-13) For those who wish to improve their skills further on the slopes. A continuation of last year's lessons or a new start for students who want to brush up their skiing. Please note - the group will be split into Intermediate and Advanced group, with no Beginners on this course for this term. Chill Factor, Manchester (additional cost £180 for 10 week course) Jewellery Making (Y7-13) Using different components and techniques, you will quickly learn to make one of a kind items to suit your own unique style as well as producing gifts for your friends and family that they will love. Rishworth Ramblers (Y7-13) Walking is good for your health and mental well-being. A good walk after a busy day at school will do you good. We walk on various routes around the local area and in all weathers! You will need appropriate footwear which are strong enough to cope with walking on muddy paths as well as appropriate walking clothing. Meet Quad

Yoga (Y7-13) Yoga is an ancient practice that involves physical poses, concentration, and deep breathing. A regular yoga practice can promote endurance, strength, calmness, flexibility, and well-being. Yoga is a mind and body practice. Duke of Edinburgh Award - Silver (Y10+) When you complete your DofE programme you’ll develop the skills and attitudes you need to become a well-rounded, confident adult. Qualities that universities and employers are attracted to. Completing DofE is a great investment in your future. It will take you at least 6 months for Silver if you’ve already achieved your Bronze, or 12 months if you’ve jumped straight into Silver. – Volunteering section: 6 months – Physical and Skills sections: One section for 6 months and the other section for 3 months – Expedition section: 3 days/2 nights If you didn’t do Bronze, you must undertake a further 6 months in either the Volunteering or the longer of the Physical or Skills sections. Karate (Y5-13) Ran by Matthew Handley (former England Karate and now UK Coaching Ambassador), this club is aimed at mixed ability, including beginners to develop their skills. Students will be transported to and from the dojo by minibus, with collection at the Rishworth School car park. Triangle (5pm finish - additional cost £40 for 8 sessions)
FRIDAY AT RISHWORTH All of the following are options available for students to choose on a Friday at Rishworth: Driving Theory Test (Y12-13) This enrichment programme provides students with a forum in which to study for, and practise both the multiple choice and hazard perception elements of the UK Driving Theory Test. Each of the 13 sessions will focus on a range of questions and answers from the official test. Completing the theory test is compulsory prior to applying to take the practical driving test. The official test is not completed as part of this enrichment activity. Students will be informed of how to and when to book and pay for their test through their local test centre. Script Writing (Y7-13)
Students work in pairs to read a series of self-selected texts. Paired reading is an effective researchbased approach to developing accuracy, fluency, comprehension, and motivation in reading.
Are you a budding dramatist interested in script writing and performing plays? Then this is perfect for you! You will experience exploring different genres and styles of drama and working collaboratively with various scripts, which will progress into a performance.
