Mozambique: a Translator Comes to Faith
Mozambique people are bound to their fears and sins by their traditional religions (ancestors’ cult) and also by Pentecostal churches. But now the peace and freedom by grace through faith in Jesus that Luther experienced in the 16th century are experienced by the Mozambique people as they hear the Good News preached and taught by the Lutheran Church. It’s amazing to see their joy and how they celebrate the love of God and the grace of Jesus with dancing and clapping!
To spread these good teachings, we hired a man named Abek Sifa to translate Luther’s Small Catechism to the local Chisena language. He is now beginning the translation of Koehler’s Summary of Christian Doctrine. While working, he became convinced that the Lutheran doctrine is true and became a faithful Lutheran. Now, he is being prepared to be a pastor!
Luther’s Small Catechism in the Chisena language is being used during worship services by pastors and church leaders to teach people God’s truth. The goal is that every family shall have a copy to read and to memorize at home, as the oral tradition is very strong in this area. If the adults are illiterate, the children read it to their parents and grandparents.
We thank God for this 25 years of translation managed by LHF, bringing Christ to the peoples in their own languages. May God bless LHF and the supporters of this ministry further on, for the glory of our God and for the salvation of many more!
