Sending warm wishes to Members this May, Jackie Ward, Assistant Recreation Coordinator

Happy May Members,

April was a time to celebrate arts of all varieties- music, crafts, guided painting, or even learning about new egg dyeing techniques. Members mastered percussion instruments with energetic leaders Nick and Wade for another spectacular return of the Drumming Circle. A huge thank you to El Camino Health for sponsoring this event! Hands on Art participants unleashed their creativity every Friday with Stephanie. Paint Party attendees painted cherry blossom branches with Brooke. Jackie’s Boost Your Mood group covered habits of happier people, with member-led segments by Kiersten and Alva. Members put their heads together to answer questions at Team Trivia with Brooke. Please note- teams are generated by splitting up people at random as they arrive, making it a great way to make new friends while you learn something new. At Food for Thought, members learned new egg-based recipes and dined on spinach frittata and chocolate eggs. Thrifted Treasures kicked off its second season, and the hall was transformed into a shopping oasis for pre-loved merchandise and handmade items. Watch for this fun event again next spring to participate as a vendor or a shopper.

May is the month in which we honor our mothers, and it doubles as Mental Health Awareness Month. Our Mother's Day High Tea will celebrate nearly 100 moms, with the help of Kiwanis Club volunteers. Michelle, from Rotary, is providing fresh flower arrangements that will be raffled off at the closure of the event. Once again, Sue will work her melodious magic on the piano as the ladies enjoy their well-deserved tea sandwiches and macaroons.

We can’t thank these community partners and generous individuals enough! The event is full, but please add yourself to the waitlist because there are often last-minute cancellations. Boost Your Mood will feature guest speaker, Kelly Weisburg, covering the topic of “Mindfulness and Aging”. Enroll in our free Mental Health First Aiders course to learn to identify, understand, and respond to mental health or substance use challenges in adults. Add some exercise and music to your routine with Kiana, who returns to lead Zumba classes. Register for summer sessions of Balance Awareness, Advanced Balance, and Stay Fit with West Valley College’s Melissa and Mary Anne. It is also time to sign up for Vasona Boats and BBQ and the summer picnic. There is still room on our free charter bus that will shuttle members to the picnic, but seats are filling fast. We lastly are excited to share that Lisanne’s little one has arrived: Baby Jasper, born on April 24th!
