December 2019 Monday – Friday Office Hours: 9:00AM – 2:00PM 208 E. Main Street, Los Gatos, CA 95030 408.354.1514 55plus@lgsrecreation.org www.lgsrecreation.org
Dear 55 Plus Members,
May was a marvelous time to honor some very special people in our community. We enjoyed getting to celebrate Mother’s Day High Tea with so many of you! A HUGE thank you to the behind-the-scenes hands of hardworking Kiwanis Volunteers who made it possible to serve so many tasty sandwiches! Our 55 Plus team is also grateful to have talented pianist, Sue, as a member of our community to provide the perfect ambiance. In June, we honor more special figures in our community. Open to all members, we will celebrate Father’s Day with live music by the StarGeezers on Monday June 24th during “Donuts for Dads”.
Also in May, our 55 Plus team was recognized with an Award of Excellence at this year’s California Parks and Recreation Society Awards for the development of our HUB Resource Page for Older Adults. On 5/16 we hosted the LGS Recreation 55 Plus Annual Resource Fair with more than 40 local service providers. Our goal is to connect our members to services and information. One participant exclaimed, “I had no idea there were this many services for seniors in our area.” Visit The HUB online at www. lgsrecreation.org/55-plus/hub/ or stop by the 55 Plus office to learn more!
June kicks off our FAB (fifty-five and above) Summer! Join us on Friday the 14th for a Social Ballroom Dance, with a 30-minute foxtrot lesson by Lesley. Even if you don’t dance, come listen to the Live Music by the Bob Gutierrez Band. Socialize with others and enjoy refreshments! On the 18th we are headed off site to Vasona for Boats and BBQ. A great social start to summer with free boat access, hot dogs, and ice cream! This was so popular last year that we have also added an August event. Tickets are available for our Annual Senior Picnic on Wednesday July 31st from 11:30AM-1:30PM on the Civic Center Lawn.
Our office will close early on June 7th due to LGHS Graduation and will be closed on Wednesday June 19th for Juneteenth. Don’t miss the community events on page 9 for more information on free local summer events including Jazz in the Plazz and the Sounds of Summer Music Festival.
Sincerely,
Lisanne Kennedy (Recreation Coordinator)
