Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers May 2017 Dear RAW members participated in several exciting and inspiring races this Easter month! The Run 4 Elise 5K and 1-mile Fun Run on April 8 raised over $60,000 to fund a scholarship in honor of Elise Cerami. Many RAW members turned out to support this meaningful cause. April 16 marked the 121st running of the Boston Marathon, and RAW was well represented! Members who made the trip include Ray Taylor, David Ball, Lorelai Cole, Anne and Chris Barnwell, Jack Hase, Jay Jones, Russ Wedemeyer and Jeff Bozarth. It was a first Boston Marathon for Chris Barnwell and Jeff Bozarth. If you ran Boston and your name wasn't listed, please accept my apologies for the oversight. On April 23, RAW members ran the Heels and Hills and Him 5K/10K/15K in Keller. On April 29, several RAW members participated in the Rachel's Challenge 5K in Colleyville, held in memory of a Columbine School shooting victim. The race's purpose is to challenge and encourage people to start "a chain reaction" of kindness and compassion. Many RAW members had great reviews to discuss after viewing "Boston: The Documentary" (the first ever feature-length documentary film about the world's most legendary running race - the Boston Marathon) on April 19 at the Cinemark Tinseltown in Grapevine. This month's 20th Anniversary celebration had an Earth Day theme, as members built and set planters and birdhouses to enhance our connection with nature. The two-day project concluded on Saturday, April 22 with a potluck breakfast, and with members planting flowers in the new planters. We invite you to walk behind the LGRAW clubhouse and enjoy our beautiful pergola! See the 20th Anniversary April Celebration article for details and pictures of the event. Come out and join us at the Cowboys Golf Club on May 20 for RAW's 20th Anniversary Gala. This will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate friendships, to honor our history, and to look forward to our future. Buy your tickets soon, all sales close on May 9! Gala details can be found in the Footprint. This month we are accepting Best Foot Forward nominations. Please take the time to consider any member who has made significant contributions to our club through outstanding volunteer work, inspiring leadership and/or encouragement and mentoring of others, and nominate them for our Best Foot Forward Award. The Best Foot Forward Award will be presented on July 4 at our annual club meeting and family picnic. We also have volunteer opportunities to serve on the LGRAW board. See the Best Foot Forward section, and Volunteer Opportunities article. Take a break and ask friends and colleagues to join us for our monthly 5K social run on May 16 at the Grapevine Craft Brewery. We invite everyone, including family and friends, to join us for our weekend runs at 7 a.m. every Saturday and Sunday. Our water stops are recognized throughout the Grapevine community as great places to chat and get to know others! Look forward to seeing you on the trails! Diane Hernandez VP and Acting President
