Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers January 2017 Dear Lake Grapevine This past month, RAW members have volunteered, celebrated, and made history. First, many of our RAW members danced into the night at our Annual RAW Holiday Party at the Lancaster Theatre in historic downtown Grapevine. One week later, a large group of our members also volunteered at another annual tradition, manning an aid station at the Dallas Marathon for the 20th year in a row (except of course the year the race was cancelled). Registration is going strong for LGRAW's Bold in The Cold 5K and 15K coming up on January 21, 2017! You can still register for this popular, wellrun race. If you are interested in volunteering, we can use your help. Please send an email to sakinayl@gmail.com, text 817.714.2757 or sign up at the RAW clubhouse. All volunteers will be given a special volunteer shirt. Our 20th anniversary celebration continues with another great event planned on January 20. More details are below. If you haven't joined us for a 20th Anniversary event yet, I encourage you to join us soon. Each month is a new and unique event and is part of our yearlong celebration. The LGRAW board sent a special announcement to all members two weeks ago, sharing that Chris Morris has resigned as the LGRAW President as of December 12, 2016. Our next board meeting is January 9, and at that time, the board will appoint the next president who will serve until the next election on July 4, 2017. On behalf of the Board, thank you to Chris for his hard work and dedication to our club. If you have any questions about the club's next steps, please attend the board meeting on January 9 or send your questions to me at VP@lgraw.com and your email will be shared with the board. All members are welcome to attend board meetings. I am proud to be part of RAW a unique club filled with people who are passionate about running and giving back to their community. When people ask what makes RAW different from other clubs, the answer is simple. It is our members. The following is an excerpt of an article I wrote for the October issue of Texas Runner and Triathlete, titled "Celebrating RAW's 20th Anniversary." "We may have come a long way from a 20 member club. Today we bear a unique logo, hold comical social events and fun runs, and participate in an AntiTurkey Trot each Thanksgiving. Our group offers runners and walkers beautiful, majestic lake views with trails alongside Lake Grapevine and a unique clubhouse to meet after runs to socialize and meet others. We are proud to state that our club has never increased membership dues over the years and proudly hosts two annual club races each year: Double Trouble 5K and 10K in October and Bold in the Cold 5K and 15K in January. With twenty years of memories to cherish, we look forward to making new ones and invite runners and walkers to join us." I look forward to this coming year, celebrating RAW's 20th year, and creating new and exciting memories with the members of RAW. Sincerely,
