Attendance The school attendance target is 97% Key contacts to report an absence In order to process information quickly it is important that all parents use the following system when they need to inform school of absences.

Medical and dental appointments

Other forms of leave

• We appreciate that some medical and dental appointments can be at short notice.

• Parents should contact the school via email: attendance@lggs.lancs.sch.uk or by phone: 01524 581661 as soon as you have confirmation of the appointment.

Students will then be able to sign out and back into school via Student Services. Parents should collect students from the Main Reception.

• For all other occasions where parents wish to take students out of school during term time, they should complete the form on the school’s website and email it to attendance@lggs.lancs.sch.uk or send the paper copy into school addressed to “School Attendance”.

Attendance Unauthorised Absence Unauthorised absences are those which the school does not consider reasonable.

If school has followed its attendance procedures and a pupil continues to have unauthorised absences, the school may see seek advice from the local authority School Attendance Support Team or request legal interventions from the School Attendance Legal Team.

Some examples of unauthorised absences are:

Leave during term time

• Parents/carers keeping children off school unnecessarily.

• Absences which are not explained satisfactorily.

By law, schools cannot authorise any leave in term time other than in exceptional circumstances. Taking a child out of school in term time will affect their education and progress, as much as any other absence.

If leave is being requested for a holiday

or extended leave abroad, approval should be obtained from the Headteacher before making any bookings * A request for leave form has been completed in advance by a parent with whom the pupil normally resides (using the form available on the school’s website).

First report (Approach to learning only).

Issued on Edulink (documents) February - Tuesday 27th 5.00 - 7.30: Parents' evening in school.

Book appointments through Edulink - booking opens about a week beforehand. Look out for a letter.

June: Second report (ATL and information on progress in individual subjects)

Homework - how to help your child • If having problems can ask for support from Teacher – discourage getting answers from others.

• Please discourage overworking a piece of work - avoid perfectionism.

• Beware of WhatsApp support / homework copying groups.

• Behaviour points if homework is not completed - helps us to see who needs support.

• Please contact us if your child is struggling with homework.
