What makes LGGS special is not the number of A*s you achieve at the end of year 11, but the relationships you establish and the people you become.

I can remember my first day at LGGS like it was yesterday; I arrived knowing only one other girl and I was pretty nervous about adapting from a small primary school to what seemed like a huge high school full of strangers. Little did I know that I would leave LGGS that same day with friends who were all in the same boat and, more importantly, an extremely useful map of the school grounds! The welcome you will receive at LGGS is incomparable to any other. Teachers here are definitely not just teachers; they are willing to help with all matters, big and small. The school community is a positive one and older students, having
been in the exact same position as you, know and are considerate of how daunting the transition can feel. Academically, you will be encouraged by teachers and pushed by peers. I have always been taught to aim high, work hard and the results will follow! However, whilst school prides itself on academic excellence, it is a common misconception that LGGS only cares about your grades. What makes LGGS special is not the number of A*s you achieve at the end of year 11, but the relationships you establish and the people you become. Over the years, LGGS will offer you an incredible variety of extracurricular activities that will allow you to immerse yourselves in school life. There is something for everyone, from
arts events to national academic competitions to clubs and societies as well as a range of sporting opportunities. At LGGS, you will have both the opportunity to develop existing talents, and explore completely new interests in a safe and caring environment. These experiences are invaluable; not only do they install the leadership, resilience and teamwork skills that allow you to become well-rounded individuals, but they also create friendships with like-minded girls and some of your happiest memories at school. I hope you are excited to start your journey here at LGGS! Wishing you all the best.

SUBJECT SUPPORT Here at LGGS we are well known for providing students with a supportive and adaptive learning environment which will help you reach your potential and do the very best you can during your time here. I have found that LGGS teachers are there for you every step of the way, providing interactive learning, helpful educational strategies and opportunities to showcase extraordinary work and talent, such as the Junior Maths Challenge and the Year 7 Spelling Bee. The teachers will do everything feel comfortable in lessons and
doing independent learning at home, and they will ensure you’re coping well with the change in structure and content, especially during the transition between primary school and secondary school. The staff make incredible use of online programmes and sites to help you practise your skills on a regular basis, and to help you track your own progress so you know where you might need extra support and where you’re really excelling! If at any point, in any lesson, you feel like you’re struggling, your teachers will support you. Should you
need extra help there are often older students who volunteer as mentors to go over content with you in the library at lunchtime. This is a very flexible programme where you will be able to choose the areas to focus on, and you and your mentor will discuss the best strategies for you to keep on track!

'At LGGS we want everyone to feel happy and comfortable in school. If you have any worries there is a strong network of people, both staff and students, to help and support you. Your form tutor is there for guidance whenever you might need it and they are the first person to go to if you have concerns about anything at all. They are there for a friendly chat, to crack a joke if you’re feeling low and to make sure that problems are resolved or passed on to someone who can provide additional support. As well as a tutor each form is given Sixth Form mentors: Year 12 students who work closely with the members of their form weekly to make the transition from primary as easy as possible, to help with organisation, making friends and to be a listening ear for the
students who need it, relaying concerns to senior members of staff where necessary. It is often useful for the year seven girls to speak to older students as they were in the same position only a few years ago. If you have spoken to your teacher or a mentor, and still feel you need help, the Head of Key Stage as well as the Coordinator of Student Wellbeing can arrange meetings with our experienced school counsellors. They can also contact external agencies if they think this would benefit you. Our school offers a supportive and positive environment for learning and there is always guidance available for those
who want or need it, especially during this emotional and exciting transition.'
