INDIVIDUAL SPORT

Welcome back to the Sports Newsletter and thank you for dropping by to see what our incredible students have been doing since the start of 2023.

As part of the curriculum, KS3 students have access to a range of indoor sport opportunities. Alongside increasing their fitness levels, this develops creative skills, resilience, and personal responsibility.

Year 7 have taken part in a Yoga and Champion Mindset unit, where they have been learning the importance of self-care, understanding the value of yoga as a tool to improve focus and concentration in lessons, as well as practising relaxation techniques.

Year 8 have been Rockin’ and Rolling in their dance unit, as well as gaining an understanding of the differences in body composition during theory lessons.

Year 9 have been celebrating individual differences and creating choreography to ‘Everyone is talking about Jamie’, using dance to share their own stories about acceptance, strength, and mental toughness. They also took part in a problemsolving unit, which challenged and pushed individuals out of their comfort zone by using high ropes and climbing frames in obstacle courses. Outdoors, we have been developing football and netball skills by adapting game situations. These have fed into some of the extra-curricular clubs and fixtures throughout the term. Year 10 have all completed their Leadership lessons, where everyone that opted for the Award planned and coached a session of their choice for their peers. In their other core PE lesson, they have had the opportunity to play full-sided games in a range of sports from netball to tag rugby.

Year 11 have been taking part in Inter-house tournaments including the fitness suite challenge, football, cone ball, netball, and tag rugby, to name but a few.

We have had huge success in extra-curricular competitions, and participation numbers are continuing to impress - as you will find out in the following Sports News pages where we have included information about some of our sports highlights.

We can now enjoy some warmer weather, and a change in season means a change in sporting provision. Tennis, athletics, rounders and cricket will be introduced and we shall. Don’t forget to pack the sun-cream!
