COMMUNITY IMPACT REPORT
PRESIDENT AND CEO’S MESSAGE Dear LGFB family members, For all of us, the success of Look Good Feel Better is not just our responsibility, it is profoundly personal. Our deep belief in the mission results in our commitment to ensure that as many women as possible
Cancer treatment has a lot of physical and emotional side effects. You start losing a sense of self in a way, because of all of these physical changes that are imposed on you. I whole-heartedly believe that if you make time for yourself and take time to look better, you will feel better. It helps you face challenges. It was also important to me for my family. As a mother of two young kids, I knew I would have to explain to them what the physical side effects of cancer were going to be. Being able to stay on top of it all and feel some sense of control by using makeup and different hair alternatives made it more manageable – although still very difficult – for them to understand and accept. I met other women at the workshop who have become dear friends to me and a great support system to this day. I’m sure thankful that these types of programs exist.
can benefit from the positive impact of our program.
We know firsthand how powerful it is when a woman is feeling more like herself. And we know the power that optimism, dignity, and confidence can have on her personal and mental well-being.
Together - as family and friends, as volunteers, as donors and as a community - we are ensuring women and teens are not alone in facing their cancer diagnosis.
More importantly, we are filling a recognized gap in ensuring that one’s health well-being should incorporate mental, emotional, social and the spiritual support that all women face - especially during a vulnerable time.
Along with the supportive care programming we have been delivering for almost 30 years, I am proud for all the recent accomplishments - from the addition of a new workshop segment on breast care and new resources for hair alternatives, to building strategic partnerships to increase our outreach. We strive to look for new opportunities and resources to continue our important work. We know the proven benefits of our programming, and there is no doubt that every woman facing cancer needs and deserves our support.
As a valued member of the Look Good Feel Better family, thank you for
JUTTA LGFB Ambassador
being there for the women in our lives today and into the future, as you turn possibilities into meaningful impact for the women we love.

CHAIR’S MESSAGE I have been a Look Good Feel Better supporter since its inception. A veteran of the cosmetics industry, I attended the first-ever Mirror Ball – the charity’s annual fundraising gala – then called, the Crystal Ball - in 1991. I remember being incredibly proud that, as an industry, we were supporting women facing cancer in such a unique way.
OUR LEADERSHIP Our gratitude to our incredible Board of Directors for their invaluable dedication to Look Good Feel Better
LGFB has a special place in my heart and that of the Mary Kay Family. One of our top sales directors, Sharon Coburn, was part of the original team who brought Look Good Feel Better to Canada.

From business to family to volunteering, I believe strongly that we are all leaving a legacy. And for me, LGFB is key in my own personal legacy. It is in my heart and soul. We are changing lives for women who are going through the effects of cancer. We are empowering them with greater information to help them feel like themselves again. We cannot stop sharing and supporting of our amazing programming to make sure that more women benefit from its positive impact.
I am very proud to be the first woman Chair of Look Good Feel Better. LGFB has had a history of very strong leadership and I am fortunate to take the helm from past-Chair John Coyne, who has led the organization through a remarkable transformation with true commitment.
I am looking forward to carrying on with our strong governance while helping to lead the organization into its next phase of building organizational capacity to deliver true impact to even more women attending the workshop and beyond.

BY THE NUMBERS • 1 in 2 Canadian women are expected to develop cancer in their lifetime • Close to 10,000 Canadian women are supported through LGFB every year • 93.5% of women felt very or somewhat confident after attending the program, compared to 52.4% prior to the workshop • 98% of participants would recommend LGFB to another woman with cancer
A special thanks to the volunteers and supporters of the Look Good Feel Better program! I have learned that although I can’t control the cancer I have, I can control how I live my life and see myself. Thank you for making me feel better during times I thought could not be tougher. Thank you for providing a supportive environment where I could relate to people like myself that I might not have in my social circle. Unfortunately, it is not a choice of mine to have cancer, but it is my choice to feel beautiful. Most of all, I felt beautiful and confident because I got to be myself - a ‘young’ but strong cancer fighter hoping for remission. I am worth the fight and so are you!!
• 1,216 volunteers led 1,173 workshops in the past 12 months • 110 hospitals and cancer care sites across Canada offer the LGFB program • $422 supports one woman’s workshop experience • LGFB has supported 250,000 Canadian women since 1992 • LGFB is worldwide with programming in in 26 countries

deserves to participate, for her well-being and self-esteem. There are bad days, and ups and downs, but feeling like myself again really lifted my spirit. It brings you a positive energy. LGFB has helped me so much and all the workshops are volunteer-based, which I find amazing. I was so inspired that I held a fundraiser to support LGFB. I wanted to raise awareness and funding for the program. So many other women could benefit from the positive impact of this workshop, which is a real moment of respite and happiness during this difficult time. For me, it was very important. One of my friends even became a LGFB volunteer after the event, which made me very happy.
JOSÉE
The workshop felt like a safe place, being surrounded by women who understood exactly what I was going through and who were struggling with the same issues and their own confidence. Connecting with them was an empowering experience and learning how to use makeup and draw my eyebrows back on helped me feel like myself again. I left that day feeling better than I had in weeks. With each major milestone in my treatment, I had to work to find my strength and confidence again and again. Through it all, being able to rock my bald head, bold lipstick and draw my eyebrows has helped me take back control and boost my confidence. Having a program like LGFB helped me find that beauty, not only on the outside but also on the inside.

THE WORKSHOP IS ABOUT MORE THAN APPEARANCE
The appearance-related side effects of cancer and its treatment can be devastating and are often associated with a loss of identity as the woman no longer recognizes herself in the mirror. Body image and appearance changes can be a major area of concern in up to 67% of cancer patients and have negative implications on short-term and long-term quality of life1. New Hair Program Our Hair Care Program gives women new and improved resources on how to cope with hair loss. The workshop provides a safe environment for women to ask their questions, understand their options, try on their first wig and get advice on what to expect and request from their salon professional.
Thanks to Industrial Alliance, women will have more of the vital resources they have asked for - including information about new technology in wig design, top fashion trends in scarves, a greater collection of wigs to try on as well as a bamboo-cotton buff for each woman to take home.
In association with mynewhair, Pureology Canada and L’Oréal Canada, LGFB was a key player in hosting a two-day seminar led by the renowned British hairdresser Trevor Sorbie and his team who conducted a wig cutting and styling workshop complete with a certification for professional hairdressers at L’Oréal Toronto Academy and the L’Oréal Montreal Academy.
Breast Care The new Breast Care component has launched, with support from Anita Canada. This new segment provides women with information on post-surgery options and fittings. It empowers women to feel confident in returning to everyday activities from running, swimming and even hugging loved ones. It also provides tips and resources for bras during treatment and into recovery, while also providing detailed information on post-surgical bras and breast forms.
Look Good Feel Better’s national impact is made possible thanks to the generous support of individual donors, corporate partners and community fundraisers. Your invaluable support has provided us with the resources required to help thousands of women benefit from the positive experience of a workshop. It is because of you that we are able to make strategic investments in priority areas that women indicate they want or need in managing their diagnosis. Thank you for helping us be there for the women we love, both now and into the future.

Sometimes I felt guilty caring about my appearance, especially since it was because of the chemo which was saving me. But I couldn’t help but worry that my daughter would have to physically see what Mommy was going through. The workshop made me optimistic about the future; that after all this treatment, it will be this face again. It will be like before.
