HUGO RIVER NORTH 411 W CHICAGO & 751 N HUDSON
PUTTING THE FINAL TOUCHES ON HUGO RIVER NORTH River North is about to get a stylish addition as it welcomes its latest residences to the neighborhood– a brand new, 227-unit dual-building apartment complex that looks to enhance urban living along Chicago Avenue. Hugo, a project by LG Group, is a great example of the efficiency the “onestop-shop” firm can bring to a project. Combining a bright modern design, amenities focused on convenience, and a prime location on Chicago Avenue, Hugo brings a fresh take on apartment living to the neighborhood.
Congratulations to the LG Development, LG Commercial, and LG Design team members bringing this project to life.

“When creating Hugo’s design, we knew we wanted the amenities and offerings to be as to be as accommodating and exciting as the location,” says Brian. “The cohesive feel of the buildings and the seamless integration of amenities and technology is a reflection of how our team works together.” Hugo’s name comes from a combination of the project’s cross streets, Hudson and Chicago, paying homage to the neighborhood and all of it’s offerings. With a Walk Score of 97, residents can explore the city on foot, with world-class restaurants, boutique shops, and art galleries just steps away. “We are excited about this location and believe in the River North neighborhood after recently moving our headquarters to the area just blocks from this project. At a time when general sentiment around downtown Chicago is low, we feel it is important to fully invest ourselves into the city we are building in.” Hugo is delivering in October of 2023.

UMMO BRINGS ARTFUL ITALIAN FARE TO RIVER NORTH SOMOS Hospitality, the team behind Tzuco, has opened UMMO, a contemporary Italian dining concept opening in River North at 22 West Hubbard Street. Helmed by Principal/Co-Founder Germán González and Chef/Partner Carlos Gaytán, with cuisine by Chef/Partner José Sosa and design by Karen Herold of Studio K Creative, UMMO will offer regional Italian cuisine. A soon-to-be named, second-floor social lounge for an aperitivo hour or post-dinner drink. UMMO marks the second restaurant by SOMOS Hospitality in Chicago’s River North district. “This is an exciting time to expand our presence in Chicago,” said Germán González. “The downtown Chicago community has been so good to us, and we see a distinct growth opportunity for Hubbard Street. It is ready for a fine-casual concept of this kind, and we are proud to be among fellow business owners working collaboratively to bring exciting culinary talent and even more vitality to the area.”
Chef Jose Sosa traveled to Italy on multiple occasions, and fell in love with Emilia-Romagna in the north and Puglia in the south and Chef Sosa’s offerings at UMMO will celebrate these regions. “In Italy, it’s all about the natural flavors directly in front of you, and those which are cultivated in your backyard,”says Sosa. “The best restaurants I have visited are those where the chef does very little to manipulate those flavors, allowing ingredients to shine to their full potential at the precise moment that they are at their peak. This approach speaks to me and is something we will replicate in UMMO’s kitchen.” Lunch and dinner options will offer a daytime bite or a hearty meal, while happy hour will feature a range of shareable bites and wine and cocktail specials. On the weekend, brunch will take centerstage with sweet and savory creations and takes on the mimosa, Aperol Spritz and Bloody Maria. Desserts have been designed in partnership with Pastry Chef Jesús Escalera, while the beverage program is guided by Sommelier Zackariah Taylor. “We are really excited about this menu, which José has been perfecting for several months,” said Carlos Gaytán. Gatyán is notably the first Mexican-born chef to earn a coveted Michelin star after crossing the U.S. border at 19 and working his way up the ladder – from dishwasher to now co-owner. “Jose’s talent shines through his food and I can’t wait for everyone to experience the dishes he’s putting out there. It’s a proud moment to be part of this new restaurant in a partnership capacity, and to see a fellow chef and someone like a brother to me from Mexico pursuing new culinary frontiers in the city we both now call home.”

DESIGNING ARTHUR ARTHUR ON ABERDEEN 210 N ABERDEEN
LG Design embarks on the conclusive design stage at AoA, marking a significant milestone with the finalization of FF&E selections and the release of marketing renderings. Anticipated for Spring 2024, check out a few of team’s favorite elements for the space, set to elevate this project as one of LG’s most exciting developments yet.
A
where: Dining Room what: Poly & Bark - Volos Chair why: these playful lounge chairs bring in some much needed curves in the otherwise square dining space.
B
where: Co-Working Lounge what: Lambert & Fils - Parc 3 Pendant why: we needed lighting that was a fresh take on industrial, bonus points for matching the color scheme exactly.
C
where: Leasing Office what: Original Arthur Harris Photography why: shout out to alex for capturing these shots while arthur harris was still operational. the images ended up serving as a big source of inspiration for the refined industrial/seventies scheme we landed on.
D
where: Pool Deck what: Liz Flores (Chicago) - Mural why: we knew we wanted a feature mural at the pool early on... and were even more excited once we brought Liz on board to do her magic. Her colors and forms are a perfect match for the project.
E
where: Elevator Corridor - Pool house what: Orrin Whalen (LA) - Acrylic on Wood why: a fun nod to the pool that awaits each resident just outside the pool house.
F
where: Roof Deck what: HAY - Pallisade Lounge Chair why: it’s a great day in the design world when function and durability also looks good.
G
where: Lobby what: CB2 - ENOKI DOME LAMP why: these lamps mimic the plaster walls of the lobby and play into our tonal backdrop of the space, while providing some interest at the front desk.
H
where: Roof Deck what: BluDot - 9 Yard Sofa why: outdoor time and space in Chicago is precious. we wanted to source pieces that celebrated this sentiment and bring a little “party” to the space.
I
where: Co-Working Banquette what: MoMA - Dual Tone Side Table why: one of the first pieces we sourced that immediately reminded us of the colors from the factory floor. we’re happy to see it made it from inspiration to final spec.

“ALL I WANT TO DO IS PAINT” MEET NATE OTTO, THE ARTIST BEHIND THE NEW LG HEADQUARTERS ELEVATOR MURAL
Nate Otto is an artist, illustrator, and muralist based in Chicago. His work occupies its own lane somewhere in between the worlds of folk art, street art, lowbrow art, and contemporary fine art. His paintings and drawings are ruminations on urban life and landscape and stylistic explorations into what Nate dubs “whateveriwanttodoism.” 2018 was a busy year. In addition to art shows in Chicago, Austin, and San Francisco, Nate did over a dozen murals in Chicago working with clients such as Apple, Vans, NPR, Warby Parker, and Basecamp. 2019 saw Nate have three solo shows at Yard Dog in Austin, Galerie F in Chicago, and a drawing show at Adventureland in Chicago. He also did his largest exterior mural to date in Pilsen, and additional murals for Goose Island, Marriott, and a slew of private clients. Most Notably, his art adorned CTA blue and red line trains as part of an advertisement and he made art on 100 wooden taps for Goose Island. In 2020 Nate completed murals for Walgreens prior to the pandemic, however, when the pandemic spread he had to cancel murals in NY, Houston, and LA, and a solo show in Belgium. In March of 2020 Nate and his family moved to the south side, and Nate focused on making art in his home studio and selling paintings directly. Nate returned to galleries in 2021 including the sold out solo show at Galerie F. He also did a handful of other murals and projects and sold over two hundred paintings directly to collectors. His mural at 103rd and Wood in Beverly became a celebrated neighborhood feature. In 2022 Nate continued to paint murals and sold work directly to people through his store. He cut ties with all galleries but did participate in a few group shows. 2023 has seen several murals and projects for Google, among others, as well as an upcoming print release at All Star Press. In August, Nate held a solo show at Spaced Out Studio in Chicago.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
EMILY NIEBAUER DESIGN ASSOCIATE LG DESIGN
Q | When did you first know you wanted to pursue a career in this field and what brought you to LG? A | Growing up I would always sketch my house and give my parents and siblings unsolicited ideas on where to put things... My dad suggested I explore the design field so that’s what I did! What initially drew my attention to LG was the wide range of projects and the fact that there were both design and construction teams under one roof. At the time, I was at a design-build firm, so I was hoping to find a company where I could advance those skills and work on larger scale projects, so LG was a great fit. Q | What are some ways you stay motivated and focused throughout the work week? A | What helps me the most is putting on a podcast or music to drown out distractions and other thoughts in my head, and just focus on the tasks in front of me. Current podcast I’m binging Murder Sheet Q | Leave us with one recommendation for what to do this month? A | Make a Pumpkin Pound Cake Here’s all the info you’ll need to make Emily’s Pumpkin Pound Cake. She told us it’s great by itself or go to the next level with Cream Cheese Icing! Q | What is your favorite project or memory from your time at LG? A | Favorite memory... probably a Delta vendor trip to Nashville where all ended up getting the chance to drive brand new Corvettes around an outdoor track. Q | What is one thing you cannot live without and why? A | My go-to emo playlist. Because, it’s not a phase!!
