Note: For the 2025-26 academic year, the threshold for students to earn an A+ was raised from 96.5% to 98.0%. This small change resulted in a significant drop in the number of A+ grades awarded compared to prior years.

LFA’S GRADING SYSTEM + CURRICULUM

n Due to the small class size of each graduating class, Lake Forest Academy does not rank its students n LFA uses letter grades from A - F on an unweighted 4.0 scale. Grades A - D may have pluses and minuses n Admission to advanced level and AP courses is decided by the appropriate department based on a student’s ability and success in previous coursework n After exhausting course offerings, upperclassmen may elect to pursue independent studies. Some of our favorites this year include: The Path to Green Data Centers; Historical Architecture Perservation and SDG 11; The Inequity and Political Movements in the Spanish-Speaking World; The Physics of Semiconductors. One semester of Independent Study equals a 1/4 credit. n Psychology is considered a science elective

LFA’S NATIONAL MERIT RECIPIENTS n In the ’27 class, 12 seniors earned National Merit Semi-Finalist recognition
