Dear Friends and Families of St. John,
Welcome to the 2024 St. John School Auction!
March 15, 2024
Let this auction be remembered as a bestseller! This Novel Soiree will be a lively and exciting evening, filled with engaging characters, tense action, and thrilling conclusions, as we bid in support of our students, our teachers and our community! Your donations, your purchases and your presence here tonight highlight that you want your children to be taught by an excellent faculty, to experience programs that encourage them to reach their potential, and to enjoy a brand-new play pit!
Auction team, I am so grateful for the huge commitment of time and creativity that you invest in St John. Thank you to Chris Sourov, St. John Fundraising Administrator, and co-chairs, Lauren and Andrew Exnicios, for your leadership. Thank you, auction liaisons and art volunteers, for working with your children’s classes. The projects are so lovely; I anticipate they will be in high demand! And, of course, thanks to all of you who donated items and hours of service to make this night so successful.
I also appreciate our donors and our sponsors for this evening. We have quite the list, including our presenting Pulitzer Prize Sponsor, Fremont Dock Co. (Osterfeld Family), and Newbery Medal level sponsors, Valley & Company Events (Valley Family), Armata Construction Services (Miletich Family), RHR Real Estate (Hartwich Family), and Dick’s Drive-In Restaurants (Donovan Family). A special thank you to our wine sponsor, L’Ecole N° 41 (Pennington Family). Please see the website for the full list of all our sponsors! Thank you, St. John Community!
Let’s make this auction the best one ever! Enjoy the evening and also bid online at Greater Giving! Good luck!

Jambo!
Welcome to the 2024 St. John School Auction. It is time for A Novel Soiree celebrating more than 100 Years of St. John School. Asante Sana to all of you for your support of our school. St John School is the largest St. John Parish ministry, and I know you will be generous as we fundraise for the future of our school. I trust that God’s good graces will continue to light our path forward.
Your commitment to helping the school reach its fund raising goals allows the Parish School to further its mission: providing an excellent Catholic education that is accessible to everyone. Asante Sana for making this year’s auction possible. Our annual celebration only happens with our sponsor’s generous support. Asante Sana to the Auction team and volunteers who have worked so many hours to create an unforgettable auction week: I pray you also enjoy the fruits of your labor. I am grateful for the school parents who give generously to the auction and who will support the Fund-a-Need. Your giving helps our angels grow into active members of the Church and society.
This is my final Auction here, as your Pastor, and I believe the Parish and School are better because of your active participation in our Parish School. Your continued commitment to the Fair Share program will allow our school to prosper into the next 100 years. Enjoy this evening with me at A Novel Soiree!
Fr. Crispin Okoth, Pastor

2024 FUND-A-NEED
The storyline of the St. John School play pit project needs a dramatic ending! The narrative began when the nautical-themed play-pit was opened and dedicated as a memorial to honor Seattle Police Officer and St. John Graduate, Jackson Lone. Officer Lone was part of the Seattle Police Harbor Unit and died in the line of duty.
A group of St. John parents from the class of 1980 came together to organize, fundraise, and construct the memorial project. In 2022 the school determined much needed enhancements and replacements were necessary to preserve the memorial playground. This multi-year funding effort with projected phased-project costs will approach $455,000. A first round of funding ($213,000), raised at the 2023 auction, allowed the school to start the renovation of the space. Full demolition of play structures followed, with removal of turf, installation of crushed rock and timber borders, and preparation of the surface for new, lush synthetic playground grass, including an engineered pad system for fall protection. Modern, age-appropriate play structures, along with the addition of an octagonal gaga ball pit for friendly competition among all grades were added this week. Once funding is complete, a new fence will wrap around the play pit space and portables.
Let’s give our students new and safe modern play structures that encourage movement while honoring the service and legacy of Officer Jackson Lone. Help make this tale a non-fiction story by making a gift to the 2024 Fund-a-Need. Funds raised beyond the actual final cost of the play pit renovation will be put toward replacing the school’s intercom and telephone systems.
Our fund-a-need goal is $175,000!

Ron Hippe, Auctioneer
Ron Hippe is a talented, engaged, and authentic auctioneer who has auctioneered for the United Way, Seattle Opera, East Bay SPCA, St John School, Make A Wish, Seattle Symphony, and many more.
When not auctioneering for Fred, Ron can be found performing comedy improvisation with Seattle’s TheatreSports (Unexpected Productions), and he has worked with a number of improv companies around the globe in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Orlando, Atlanta, Vancouver, New York, London, and Austria. Ron has appeared in productions with the Intiman, ACT, and Seattle Rep theatres and also appeared on Broadway in the Pulitzer Prize winning play The Kentucky Cycle. Ron is a veteran commercial and voice over actor for radio, television, and video games. In addition, Ron is a musician and singer-songwriter. He lives in Seattle with his wife, Michelle, and their two boys.
Andrew Exnicios, Emcee
As a young boy Andrew dreamed of being a baseball. He hails from the Virginia suburbs outside Washington, DC and once wrote an admissions essay where he described his “happiest moment ever” as the 2nd quarter of Superbowl XXII. (The school let him in anyways). When he’s not coaching the St Al/John XC team or cheering in vain for mediocre DC sports teams, Andrew spends his time running, product managing the world’s largest pet pharmacy, and ferrying carloads of kids back and forth to dance classes. But more than anything, Andrew wants you to know that he thanks God for his family every day: dogs Calhoun and Grayson, daughters Lila and Lucy, and above all his wife, Lauren, the best person he’s ever met. None of them were around when he wrote that essay about the Super Bowl, but if they had been he’d have to scrap the whole thing and start over (sorry Doug Williams).
Robin Burrowes, DJ
Robin has had a life-long hobby and secondary career as a DJ, playing in 15 countries around the world. In Seattle, he now plays regularly across many bars and venues, including locally in Ballard at Joli on 65th. He is husband to Melissa and father of Ava (3rd grade) and also volunteers as coach/referee for the St. John girls soccer team. Hear some of his music at https://www.mixcloud.com/robinburrowes/
