A Letter from the President

Happy Spring Lexington Catholic Families, Alumni, Faculty, Staff, and Friends.

As winter fades and the longer spring days creates an atmosphere of renewal and optimism around our campus, we are reminded of how blessed we are to be a part of the Lexington Catholic family. This is ultimately the most important attribute of our community—family.

In Advancement and Enrollment, we are working on our 2025-26 class with enrollment now open, and we are excited to be able to offer additional tuition assistance to fully verified under-served families who wish to provide a Catholic education for their children.

The Fr. Norman Supplemental Tuition Assistance Fund (which began in the fall of 2024), the Daniel Rudd Foundation Grant (aimed at black and brown under-served students) and a substantial estate gift from Heyward “Sonny” and Emmabel Tibbs Fund aimed at “underprivileged” families, has created a new source of tuition assistance for the school. There are also new scholarships for incoming 9th graders, never before offered, at the $5,000-$10,000 renewable levels. So please let other families and friends know that they should apply to Lexington Catholic through our admissions office and FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment as soon as possible. A CatholicChristian private education is now more affordable than ever. We need your help to spread the word to increase enrollment to our highest goals.

We are also excited to announce that we have reached our grotto fundraising goal, and we plan to begin construction on our new grotto on campus honoring our Blessed Virgin Mary this spring. A grotto was incorporated, and served as a focal point, of the grounds of St. Catherine Academy prior to the creation of Lexington Catholic High School in the 1950s. This new sacred space would be used by our students, families, and the community and will serve as constant reminder of our faith and our ministry within the Catholic Church. We are also thrilled to announce that Bishop John Stowe has approved the dedication of the new Ave Maria Grotto in memory of Fr. Norman Fischer. “It is a nice tribute tying Father Norman’s own spirituality to the tradition of Saint Catherine Academy, part of Lexington Catholic’s legacy,” said Bishop Stowe.

This project has all been made possible through a generous leadership gift from Edward & Priscilla Fallon Family and Steve and Cindy Stewart. Further, many other donors have purchased pavers and arrays for the Knight Walk to the grotto to help us achieve the goal to begin construction. There’s still time to

make donations before the first patio and sidewalk are built. The grotto will be constructed at the North end of the Joseph K. Ford athletics fields complex to the left of the home grandstand, in full view of the new Science and High Marks Center.

Congratulations to the amazing Coach Bernie Dugan and her Lexington Catholic Girls’ Track Team, which won the 2A State Championship once again, back-to-back. Individual state titles were won by Caroline Beiting in both the 800 and 1,600 meters and Joanna Bryant in the 400. And in Swim and Dive, twins Graham and Sydney Leslie won state diving championships. Congratulations to all.

Additionally, I have been hard at work leading the charge to finish our 5-year Strategic Plan this spring. Standing Board of Trustees committees including Academics, Advancement/ Enrollment, Spiritual Life, Athletics, Facilities, and Finance have been hard at work finishing goal statements, objectives and strategies for the plan which will lead us now through 2030.

I’m also pleased to report that we have finished paying off the new $12 million Science and High Marks addition, and we are now debt free on this project. Congratulations to all who helped us to achieve this distinction.

Finally, a new 75th Jubilee Committee has been formed, led by the Alumni Council, to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the merger of St. Catherine Academy and Lexington Latin High in 1951. The celebration will take place throughout 2026, with a culminating evening dinner event being planned. A coffee table book commemorating our 75 years through alumni interviews and stories is also being created. Let us know if you’d like to be involved with this joyous project.

May God bless our faculty, staff, and administration as we lead our school through the spring semester to graduation. And may God bless you, your families, and Lexington Catholic High School.

This meaningful act of service reflects our students’ commitment to kindness and giving back to our local community.

Senior Dinner Dance

CAROLINE BEITING is a candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program and has committed to the University of Michigan for track and field and cross country.

BUILDING MOMENTUM:

The Road to uKnight Day

We have launched a multi-week campaign designed to engage the entire Lexington Catholic community. A social media blitz, morning announcements, and videos is creating anticipation, highlighting the impact of donor support and the accomplishments of students and faculty alike. Hallways will be lined with team posters, and the energy will build as donations roll in to support an electrifying tradition: the FACULTY / ALUMNI VS. STUDENTS BASKETBALL GAME ON APRIL 24.

THE POWER OF GIVING

uKnight Day is more than a fundraiser—it’s a celebration of the spirit of Lexington Catholic and the power of a united community. Every dollar raised directly benefits academic programs, student scholarships, and the continued excellence of Catholic education. This year’s $25,000 MATCHING CHALLENGE, graciously donated by an anonymous donor from the class of 1964, makes every donation even more impactful, ensuring that twice the support reaches the students who need it most.

Will you answer the call to uKnight? Whether by cheering on your favorite team, making a donation, or spreading the word, every contribution strengthens the future of Lexington Catholic. Join us on April 24, watch the game, make a gift, and be a part of something extraordinary. Go Knights!

THE MAIN EVENT: Faculty/Alumni vs. Students Basketball Showdown

The Faculty/Alumni vs. Students Basketball Game, held during the last period on April 24, will be a thrilling showcase of athleticism, school pride, and fundraising prowess.

The game featured:

• Faculty/Alumni Team vs. Student Team, each with 10 players and up to two coaches

• Special VIP players—recent graduates, beloved alumni athletes

• The Lexington Catholic Band and Cheerleaders, bring the energy

• Live-streamed coverage and commentary, found on the Lexington Catholic Facebook page

• A halftime free throw contest with cash prizes

But this game is more than just a friendly match-up—it’s a fundraising challenge. In the weeks leading up to uKnight Day, donors can contribute to either team, with every $500 raised earns the team 6 extra points going into the game. And the giving doesn’t stop at tip-off—real-time donations during the game will continue to add points to the respective teams.

These academic scholarships—the Smiley-Spalding Scholarship, the new Smiley Family Foundation Scholarship for Catholic Excellence and Service, and the Sister Marie Gangwish Math & Science Scholarships—are designed to make Catholic education more accessible and affordable for families seeking excellence in

faith-based education. Students may apply for all scholarships but are eligible to receive only one. The Smiley-Spalding Scholarship offers awards to all qualified recipients while the highly competitive Smiley Family Foundation Scholarship for Catholic Excellence and Service, and the Sister Marie Gangwish Math & Science Scholarships are limited in the number of awards granted annually. All scholarships are renewable each year, provided recipients maintain the necessary criteria.

THE SMILEY-SPALDING SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is renewable for all four years.

THE SMILEY FAMILY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP FOR CATHOLIC EXCELLENCE AND SERVICE

Open to incoming 9th graders who are actively practicing Catholics

This scholarship, generously funded by the Smiley Family Foundation, seeks to support students who embody the values of faith, service, and academic dedication, ensuring they have access to a Lexington Catholic education. The scholarship application may be completed in either paper form or electronically online.

PRESTIGIOUS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INCOMING FRESHMEN OPPORTUNITIES

FISCHER SCHOLARS

Supplemental Tuition Assistance Application Making Education Accessible

At Lexington Catholic, we believe every student deserves access to an exceptional education rooted in faith, knowledge, and service. The Fischer Scholars initiative was created to make this belief a reality by offering financial support to families who may need assistance beyond what Lexington Catholic can typically provide. Our tuition assistance programs are funded by generous donations, grants, and the Fischer Scholars Fund. These resources ensure that deserving students have access to the outstanding academic and spiritual programs that define Lexington Catholic.

The Fischer Scholars initiative is made possible by many generous contributions to the Father Norman Fischer Fund, the Tibbs Fund, and the Rudd Grant, which prioritize support to families with the greatest verified financial need and under-served populations. It represents a commitment to equity and opportunity, creating pathways for students to thrive academically and spiritually.

Father Norman Fischer believed that education should be accessible to all, and this fund upholds his vision by opening doors for future generations. By applying for Fischer Scholars assistance, your family is taking the first step toward a transformative Catholic education that nurtures both mind and spirit.

We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with you on this journey and look forward to helping make your child’s education at Lexington Catholic a reality.

SISTER MARIE GANGWISH

MATH AND SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIPS

The Sister Marie Gangwish Math and Science Scholarship is a prestigious, renewable $5,000 per year scholarship awarded to up to three outstanding incoming 9th-grade students for the 2025-2026 school year who demonstrate exceptional ability and passion for math and science. This scholarship is open to both Catholic and non-Catholic students who meet the academic and character requirements and have verified financial need.

A Letter from the Principal

In the fall of 2026, Lexington Catholic High School will celebrate its 75th year of educating students in mind, body, and spirit.

Founded under the leadership of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth and the priests of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Covington, Lexington Catholic has long been committed to providing a high-quality Catholic education to students in the Bluegrass region. Throughout its history, the school has remained at the forefront of innovative approaches to education and student life. From pioneering a rotating/block schedule in the 1950s, introducing football to our extracurricular offerings, to establishing a computer lab in the early 2000s, we have consistently integrated academic growth with spiritual development.

The campus has evolved significantly over the years, both in terms of facilities and curriculum. Our new state-of-the-art science labs provide students with hands-on experiences that complement their learning in science, health, and engineering. Similarly, our upgraded theater gives students involved in drama and fine arts the opportunity to engage in real-world experiences, from acting to stage production.

In the past school year, we completed a self-audit and review of our mission, Catholic identity, and academic offerings as part of the diocesan accreditation process. This marks the first time in the history of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lexington that all our educational institutions will be accredited by one global agency with unified standards. This process involved gathering data, conducting interviews, and surveying stakeholders to develop a strategic plan focused on spiritual, academic, and student life priorities.

In the realm of Catholic identity and faith formation, you will see updates to the structure of our retreat programs, as well as a renewed emphasis on Catholic traditions such as school-wide Rosary and Stations of the Cross. We will continue to offer and expand our speaker series, which helps students deepen their understanding of Catholic Social Teaching and its relevance in today’s world.

We are also introducing a continuing education program for faculty and staff, providing them the opportunity to design their own learning path as they explore new content and teaching methods. With the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI), our teachers have begun receiving training on its ethical and appropriate use in the classroom, guided by Catholic Social Teaching. Rather than avoiding AI, we are committed to teaching students how to use these tools responsibly and effectively in an ever-changing world. Additionally, we will incorporate more asynchronous learning, supported by our LCHS staff, to offer additional dual credit opportunities for our students.

Our commitment to supporting students’ passions and interests outside the classroom remains strong. Due to student interest, we are exploring the possibility of introducing a wrestling program in the coming years, have launched a Stop Motion Film Club, and will continue to develop our Student Wellness Program to meet the social and emotional needs of our students.

As we prepare to celebrate 75 years of educational excellence as part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lexington, we continue to adapt and grow, ensuring we meet the spiritual and academic needs of our students. We are deeply grateful for your continued support of our mission and look forward to the next 75 years of service.

In His Name, Mr. Mathew

As we approach the upcoming school year, we are excited to extend a warm invitation to your family to explore everything that Lexington Catholic High School has to offer. Our commitment to academic excellence, character development, and a wellrounded educational experience is stronger than ever, and we are thrilled to share our new initiatives with you.

HIGH SCHOOL ADMISSION EVENTS

To provide prospective students and families with an in-depth understanding of our school’s programs, we will be hosting a series of Future Knight Admission Events throughout the coming months. These events will give you the opportunity to meet with our admissions team, faculty, and current students to learn about the exciting academic and extracurricular opportunities at Lexington Catholic.

We strongly encourage you to attend one or more of these events, where you can ask questions, explore our facilities, and discover how Lexington Catholic can support your child’s growth and success in high school.

INITIATIVES TO BRING INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS BACK

At Lexington Catholic, we recognize the invaluable cultural and academic contributions that international students make to our school community. With the world continuing to recover from the global pandemic, we have partnered with Amerigo Education aimed at welcoming international students back to our campus, fostering a diverse and globally minded environment for all students.

Some of these initiatives include:

• Offering A Host Family Incentive: Tailored to help international students integrate seamlessly into our school culture by offering an incentive to families when they host an international student. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact the Office of Admissions.

• Welcoming Members of the Amerigo Team & Their Key Business Partners to our vibrant community: A presentation and group tour event provided an opportunity for participants to engage with our Advancement Team, Administration, and Faculty in person to promote the learning environment, support, and opportunities available at LCHS for prospective international students’ consideration in their educational journey.

It is our hope that these initiatives will help international students feel more supported and connected than ever before. The diversity of perspectives and experiences that international students bring to the classroom enriches the learning environment for all our students, and we look forward to welcoming more students from around the world.

We would be delighted to have you join our community of learners, and we hope to see you at one of our upcoming Future Knight Admission Events. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a personal meeting, please don’t hesitate to reach our admissions office.
