PURPOSE SIMPLIFICATION • INSPIRATION • EDUCATION In our modern digital world, more visual inspiration is thrown a bride’s way than ever before. Navigating content on various social platforms can be pretty overwhelming. Not to mention, then connecting those inspiration images to your own hair—it’s a lot!

THE STYLE EDIT WAS CREATED WITH A BRIDE’S BEST INTEREST IN MIND. With a growing team of bridal specialists, we have had the opportunity to meet with hundreds of brides throughout the years. We have found that this growing digital space leaves our brides excited by the options, but also more likely to have unrealistic inspiration. This educational lookbook is meant to be an empowering first step in the realm of discovering your ideal style. The Style Edit has simplified this search process.

STYLE NOTES The Style Edit has been a dream of mine for quite some time. Bringing this vision to life has been such an enjoyable process for me and my team. However, sharing our detailed guidance got to be a bit lengthy. As hairstylists, I think we can forget how much input we truly have!

My intention with this educational lookbook is to provide the nuance of detailed value without overwhelming the reader. If you would like more of our professional input, please refer to Lexi’s Style Notes. Here, I will do a deeper dive on in-depth technical style information on the looks, ideal hair prep, trial appointments, & morning-of timelines.

reading guide Before we get started, we would like to give some suggestions on how to best navigate this educational lookbook. Our first and largest section is The Looks. This includes an in-depth look at the variety of style options we find most relevant in 2023. Using this reading guide, you will be well on your way to selecting your final style!

Follow these steps to choose your style, confirm realistic expectations, and browse your variation and veil/accessory options. Don’t forget to review our final tips!

Let’s do a bit of research first! Start big picture and review each style’s cover page prior to navigating your selected style’s section page by page. Note: While it can be tempting to peruse the beautiful photos, this might be an overwhelming start if you are unsure of your style fit.

Extensions

WHY WE LOVE THEM Extensions truly can be a bride’s best friend on her wedding day. Through the years, we have seen this accessory use grow, and we don’t foresee this stopping any time soon. Extensions are capable of elevating every type of style request.

We prefer clip-in extensions for our brides, and love to customize them to each lady. We could write an entire book on this topic, so we will refrain for now. Please refer to Lexi’s Style Notes to learn more about extensions!

Otherwise, here are a few styles where extensions are often needed.

The majority of styles can be executed with any face frame and texture option. You can customize the face framing to how you feel most comfortable seeing your hair styled from the front. The following variations can be used in selecting the final details of your style.

Veils We've provided you a visual guide for veil placement with all style variations. Here are some tips: Consider The Length of Your Veil With length (and detail) comes weight. If you would like a cathedral length veil, choose the most secure placement options (not below bun or pony).

Consider Your Style Type •

For All-Up Styles, there are two placement options: • •

Above bun – This option is more secure, but covers the hair.

Below bun – This option is less secure, but shows the hair.

For Half-Up & All-Down Styles, crown placement is recommended.

For Ponies, we suggest placement underneath ponies in order to optimize volume and longevity. For this reason, it can be difficult to pair veils with low ponies.

Accessories

Whether it is a few pearls, a chic gold pin, or dried florals intricately weaved within the hair, we think hair accessories are a great opportunity to supplement your style!

Don't Overdo It: Consider the look of your dress and your other jewelry selections. Finding a balance among these options will ensure you are the focus.

Placement: We love asymmetrical placement! The photos that brides tend to value the most are moments with their significant other. Showing off an accessory on the side of your style during this moment can be a great visual addition.

FINAL TIPS

LEXI’S DOS & DON’TS

Do: Speak up at your trial appointment and on the big day.

A true professional will help you feel comfortable doing so. As stylists we must disconnect our emotions from our work. How you feel about the style is our utmost priority. However, how you say this matters. Be kind, but specific with your change requests.

Do: Listen to your vendors—you hired them for a reason!

We often find that the brides who are able to enjoy the planning process most are those who can find confidence in vendor input in their respective fields. It saves you energy, so you can put it into more effective places!

Find the balance in the ease of their professional input, but also going with your gut. In short, listen to us on day-of logistics and thoughts on style constraints, but listen to your gut on ultimate style decisions.

Do: Consider paying for your bridal party’s hair service.

Or even a portion of it! Selecting a specialist based on the budget of others might make you feel considerate of your loved ones, but you also deserve to hire the vendors you want. Your bridal party really doesn’t need that custom champagne glass.

Do: Consider your everyday hairstyle preference.

Refer to past favorite photos of yourself. Determine the common denominator regarding your hair in all of those photos and start there.

Don't: Let the opinions of others affect you too much.

There are plenty of “shoulds" when planning a wedding: what mom thinks you should do with your hair, what your sister says, etc. However, the right answer is how YOU feel most confident. Because gf, how you feel on your wedding day is what really matters. We often find this is best solved between the bride and a helpful professional.

Don't: Feel the need to change your hair.

Typically the type of lady to keep your hair short? Who says you have to grow it out? There is no need to change your hair—if you love your hair the way it is, keep it!

LEXI’S

HOT TAKES "WAKE UP EARLY, GF." You'll be running on adrenaline regardless. You'd rather have a buffer of time to avoid rushing your timeline later in the morning.

CONSIDER DITCHING THE VEIL. We have a whole slew of functional reasons for this one. It covers up your stunning dress and hair, and is a total pain thinking about throughout the day. But, we respect the tradition so if it's truly in your style vision, we suggest having the accessory during the ceremony and a few desired photos. Then, remove and enjoy the rest of your day with easier hugs and less stressors of it getting tugged out.

YOU CAN'T HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO. Your fine hair doesn't hold curl, but you want a half-up style? Get extensions.

Want your style to look dimensional and pop in photos? Get highlights.

Looking for a full ponytail? Get a layered haircut.

No amount of talent from your hairstylist can fully correct a less-than-ideal starting canvas. When brides are understanding of this and willing to work with us to make necessary decisions, their dreams can come to fruition.

You never part your hair down the center?

Don't expect this to feel different on your wedding day.
