Dear Community of Lexington, As a business owner, I believe connections are key factors to the sustainability and success of the business. Over the years, I have had the good fortune of connecting with people and programs that have helped my business grow. I have been a part of Lexington Community Foundation for nine years and witnessed LCF's connections with our community. The Foundation diligently works to create positive change, making connections that have a lasting impact on our community. Our community’s businesses, agencies, schools, and families are connected through the Lexington Community Foundation. We look forward to new ways to join together as a community for a bigger and better 2024!
Connecting Our Community
Lexington Community Foundation’s Board of Directors and staff serve the Lexington community with nonprofit knowledge and community understanding
Christy Augustin, LCF Program Coordinator, completed her Certificate in Fundraising Management through the University of Nebraska- Omaha in November 2023. This course gave new insights into effective fundraising methods to serve LCF best. Christy’s dedication continues to serve Lexington to greater heights.

Connections are created for many reasons. To make a bond stronger. To build a new relationship. To link together impactful ideas. Connections are needed to build and raise a community to new heights. 2023 created, maintained, and evolved connections within Lexington Community Foundation. The annual Key Dinner & Auction raised a record-breaking $400,000, creating continued opportunities for LCF to inspire generosity in the Lexington area. Over 70 communities from 17 states reconnected to ties in Lexington through donor gifts and Foundation involvement throughout the year. Lexington connections last a lifetime. Your connection to Lexington continues to be a difference-maker for our community.

2023 Grants Distributed UNIFUT SOCCER GRANT LCF awarded UNIFUT Soccer a $1,000 grant to help cover the costs of bringing Nebraska State Soccer Association to Lexington. Participants came from an area spanning from Hastings to North Platte. Coach Jesse Hall said, “We have an amazing community that supports our youth, and each year, Lexington UNIFUT Soccer Club is growing and learning how we can better serve our players.”
LIBRARY PROGRAM INITIATIVE Library Director Jennifer Norton said, “The Library Initiative Grant helped to fund many of the programs and events hosted by the Lexington Public Library this past year.” With the $10,000 renewable grant provided by LCF, the Library hosted the Summer Reading Program events, musical programs presented by Humanities Nebraska, and an end-of-summer community street dance & party.
DESTINATION GRADUATION Computers and prizes are given to qualifying students at LHS through Destination Graduation. Over the last four years, 68 laptops have been awarded to seniors, and 12 iPads have been awarded to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. In 2023, LHS implemented a Destination Graduation Ambassadors program, where 65 upperclassmen mentor 9th graders during their Focus period.

It’s a Great Life with Good People Mitch and Jackie Berke moved back to the Lexington area in 1991 with their four children, Michaela, Joe, Molly, and Patrick. At the time, they had no idea the impact the Lexington Community Foundation would have on their lives. Jackie ended her tenure as the Foundation’s Executive Director in June of 2023, and, as a family, they chose to give a planned gift to the Foundation as part of their estate plan. Looking back on Jackie’s time at the Foundation with past and present LCF Board members, both Mitch and Jackie fondly remember the milestones and growth of the Foundation during these 25 years. Both Mitch and Jackie grew up in families that taught them the values of giving and helping others in the community. They quickly realized that great things could happen when others connect a purpose to their gifts. Lexington has many success stories. Creating understanding, they’ve also passed their giving spirit along to their children, who have all supported the Foundation in many ways. In working with donors for the many successful local projects, Jackie took the stand, “Why not Lexington?” The Foundation has impacted this community more than we may ever know. Changing attitudes was a big part of that success. Generations to come will benefit for years from the small and large gifts that have been made. Jackie had a knack for putting the right people around the table, and the family is proud of the Foundation’s accomplishments. “My day-to-day may lighten up, but we will always be involved (with the Foundation),” Jackie explained when asked how the Foundation would continue to shape her future. Foundation President Mike Maloley summed up the conversation by stating, “From the outside looking in, people don’t know what Lexington is.” Promptly, Jackie agreed. For many of us, Lexington is home. Let’s make it the best it can be.

The Planned Giving Society was implemented in 2021 to increase LCF's unrestricted assets. Since then, the Planned Giving Society has grown to include more than $6.2M in known amounts. Members understand that by giving in this way to LEXINGTON COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, their community will grow and advance well beyond their years.
