Here Today, Planning for Tomorrow Dear Lexington Community and Supporters, Without a doubt, the pandemic has shown the deep need and ingenuity of nonprofit organizations since March 2020. Nonprofits like ours are on the front lines serving those who are most vulnerable. That has never been truer than this past year, as you’ll soon find in this annual report. To witness this kindness and giving firsthand, just drive by the St. Ann's Parish Center on Taft Street any given Thursday between 10 a.m. and noon. There you’ll find selfless volunteers distributing food to those who need it most. Many nonprofits were vulnerable to fluctuations in finances and funding prior to the pandemic, which has undoubtedly compounded those vulnerabilities. A recent Nonprofit Association of the Midlands poll, taken in October 2020, demonstrates the financial worry: 71% have cancelled events and programs with corresponding reduced revenue, and 75% are experiencing budget implications. Only 23% of area nonprofits have a cash reserve to sustain operations 3 months or less. Although we continue to manage in these difficult times, LCF is in the same situation as the 71% referenced above. Our annual dinner and fundraiser Key ‘20 was forced to go virtual with a reduction in revenue. Key ‘21 still faces unknowns. In order to prepare for future unknowns, we are also launching a "Planned Giving Society" campaign. This initiative would provide a permanent source of funding to guard against unforeseen budgeting issues and improve the quality of life for the next generations to come in our community. The program will allow community members to invest in the future of Lexington through planned giving by making a gift now or in the future through various estate planning techniques. There Aren’t Enough Words to Thank Our Volunteers This segment of our annual report is dedicated to residents who demonstrate a true commitment to our community by virtue their volunteer work. Giving back is a part of these individuals everyday lives. They have helped us work toward our vision which is to have a community where all people thrive. To our 2020 volunteers, we express appreciation for your time and expertise. Thank you for the many ways you support our work. Our own LCF Board of Directors and advisory members – it is your commitment to this organization that moves it forward. 2020 COVID relief volunteers – these are the dozens of people doing the right thing for their neighbors including delivering and distributing food each week, making our public spaces safer and referring those in need. LCF event volunteers – Give BIG Lexington and the Key event would not be as successful without you. LHS youth - you rock! Thank you for helping with weekly food distributions and promoting Lexington in a positive way. You are Lexington’s emerging leaders.
Spotlight on John McCoy, CEO of Orthman Manufacturing John and his team at Orthman partner with LCF on the coordination of our weekly food distribution in Lexington. It all began last April when John asked his team what they wanted to do for Lexington. They chose to give back free hot meals. It has evolved into the food distribution we have today where three semi-loads full of food are given away each week. We are now in our 40th week of distributions. The use of his time, equipment, staff as volunteers and more has all been donated in kind. We wouldn’t even know where to begin calculating the value. So we wish to say… THANK YOU!

Helping Lexington in a Time of Need There is no greater feeling than lending a hand to your neighbors in need. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, with your help, we were able to provide emergency relief funding, food vouchers, bags of groceries, food boxes and meals. Check out the incredible numbers that show just how much of a difference we were able to make in the Lexington Community during this COVID-19 crisis. We couldn’t have done it without you, our donors, and help from surrounding businesses and government aid.

You Gave BIG During Our 10th Annual Give BIG Lexington! “It’s one thing to see what needs to change; it’s another to make change happen.” Our community made it happen this year at our 10th annual Give BIG Lexington event. In one day, 478 donors gave online and offline, plus prize money for a total of $639,035. Since we began the Day of Giving 10 years ago, we’ve been able to give more than $4 MILLION to local nonprofits making Lexington a better place to live. Give BIG is about inclusion and increasing awareness that nonprofits do, and this year we included community partners campaigns with Cozad, Elwood, and Overton.

Create Your Legacy In the fall of 2020, the LCF Board of Directors gave its approval to a Planned Giving Campaign with the long-term goal of increasing funds available to the Lexington Community Foundation for use at its discretion to continue to fulfill their mission. Patrons who desire to continue their support of the LCF are encouraged to formalize their Planned Gift. A Planned Gift may be either a gift during your lifetime or at death. Gifts may be as diverse as the needs and desires of the donor and may include cash, bequests set forth in last wills and testaments, or grants, trusts, real estate, life insurance death benefits, IRA contributions and adding transfer on death designation to investments. The Development Committee of the LCF intends to further promote this Planned Giving Campaign when the COVID-19 Pandemic is behind us. In the meantime, the members of the Development committee in conjunction with Jackie Berke stand ready to meet and discuss with you to assist you in achieving your Planned Giving goals.
