Oh Baby, these 2021 babies are adorable… vote online for your favorites!

For the fourth consecutive year, The Sentinel has invited baby photo submissions for infants born in the previous year. Throughout the pages of this edition, you’ll find photos of babies born in the 2021 calendar year. Parents and grandparents from the Juniata Valley uploaded some of the cutest pictures imaginable. If you’d like to see the photos online, just go to lewistownsentinel. secondstreetapp.com/Oh-Baby-2021/ or find the button on the Sentinel’s homepage. You can vote for your favorite photo once per day online, now

through January 31, 2022. The entry with the most votes will receive a family photo shoot courtesy of Katie Bingaman Photography. The winner will be announced in The Sentinel and on the contest webpage after February 1.

In addition, one winner was randomly drawn from all photo submissions to win a party pack courtesy of Harshbarger’s Sub ‘n Malt. Things to consider when choosing a maternity hospital

Expectant parents face many decisions as they plan to welcome their new baby. Choosing where to give birth is one of the most important. During this exciting and life-changing time, parents want to know they’ll have the support they need.

Choosing a maternity hospital that offers clinical excellence, value-added services and some of the comforts of home gives new parents assurance that they’re in good hands. Whether they have a specific birth plan, or the expectant mother is leaving the planning to her doctor, it’s important to discuss these expectations with staff to ensure the best possible experience.

Clinical excellence From the OB/GYN to the anesthesiologist, new parents want reputable, board-certified providers.

Labor and delivery experiences come in all shapes and sizes — from natural births that happen quickly, to long labors using pain relief, to C-sections. The medical team should have the resources and knowledge to safely deal with any circumstances.

Comforts of home Private rooms and private bathrooms with showers are just a few of the amenities that can make hospitals feel just a little more like home. If mom and baby are well enough, rooming-in is a great option to have. Dads or birthing partners can be overlooked in this process, but they sometimes also stay overnight.

Having a comfortable place for them to sleep nearby is always appreciated.

Post-partum care and considerations If the baby does need extra care after delivery, it’s important to know the hospital has nursery facilities and staff to provide that care. Welcoming visitors to meet a new bundle of joy is also something to consider. Due to COVID-19, hospital visitation policies and mask requirements change frequently. Ask staff what the current policies are so guests aren’t disappointed.

OH BABY! Value-added services Value-added services can include access to lactation consultants, whirlpool tubs, fine-dining meals to celebrate the new arrival, and a visiting photographer to take newborn photos.

“Added services we offer are virtual HIER and parent classes where attendees can virtually tour the labor and delivery unit, receive a car seat demonstration and discuss breastfeeding,” said Jessica Lewis, Manager Women and Children’s Services, at Mount Nittany Health.

With a little research, expectant parents can know ahead of time what to expect from their maternity hospital. The more assurance and knowledge expectant parents have, the better prepared they’ll feel on the big day.

Welcoming nearly 1,300 newborns each year, Mount Nittany Health was recently ranked “Best Places for Maternity” by U.S. News & World Report. Our expanded Joseph V. and Suzanne Paterno Women and Children’s Services Unit will be opening this spring and boasts more than 28,000 square feet in renovations, a new operating room, new labor and delivery rooms, renovated all-private postpartum spaces, and more.
