Fantastic results at the Regional Epee Fencing Competition Well done to all the Leweston fencers that took part in the BYC regional Epee at Millfield.

In the morning session Ginny B U14 and Jessica S U12 took Bronze and Archie C U14 finished with Silver. In the afternoon, George JJ U16 achieved Bronze and Viv T U16 Silver! Thank you to all the volunteers that helped on the day!

Hockey

A massive congratulations to our U11 team who are through to the Regional In2Hockey Championships following the Dorset qualifying tournament!

Hockey

At the end of last term we enjoyed the traditional Inter-House Hockey Competition, which proved to be as fun and competitive as ever. The final results of the tournament were as follows: 4th place 3rd place 2nd place 1st place

Football

Leweston boys enjoyed some great hockey matches in February against Port Regis and Sandroyd School at U8, U9, U10, U11, U12 and U13 level!

The U14 boys played an entertaining and closely contested hockey match with Leweston emerging as the eventual winners against Milton Abbey School.

We enjoyed hosting Sherborne School for an exciting and entertaining U14 football match in January. The honours eventually went to Sherborne, after a closely contested game.

Our Senior girls enjoyed a great afternoon of football, with a fun and competitive match against Sherborne Girls. The game finished in a 1-1 draw and with promises of a rematch very soon!

Netball

We welcomed Warminster School for some great pre-season matches, six games and over one hundred girls on court!

Cross Country

Congratulations to all our athletes who competed at the Dorset Schools County Cross Country Championships. Leweston are once again the top Girls Cross Country School in Dorset!

Some incredible results; Junior Girls Team Gold, Senior Girls Team Gold, Minor Girls Team Bronze, and Inter Girls Team Bronze. Further congratulations to Archie C who finished as Junior County Champion, Daisy D Senior County Champion, May S Minor Girls Silver and Lucy B Junior Girls Bronze.

Our Senior Netball Teams enjoyed their matches with Milton Abbey School at the start of the term with some comfortable wins and new combinations trialled.

Well done to our runners who won the Senior Girls trophy once more, as well as finishing 2nd in the Senior Boys competition and 3rd in the Intermediate Girl’s race at Downside School.

There was plenty of action on the netball courts at Wellington School on the 8 February. Seven teams travelled away and enjoyed some closely contested matches, with the 2nd VII, 3rd VII, U15s and U14s performing particularly well.

Cross Country

Some great performances at the Cross-Country at Sandroyd School! Leweston won both the U11 and U13 Girls races with Nikita taking Individual Silver, Arisa Bronze, and joined by their team mates Fenella and Mina. The boys came 2nd in their U11 competition!

Another well deserved win for the Leweston Senior Girl’s Team at the Milton Abbey Cross-Country Races, with Lucy B taking Individual Silver and Issy C Individual Bronze.

Cross Country

Leweston were the only school in Dorset to be represented in 6 of the 8 age group races at the South West Cross-Country Championships in Bournemouth. Four of them finished in the top 10 in their age categories, which is an outstanding achievement. Well done to Lucy who was 9th in the Junior Girls race, May who finished 8th in the Minor Girls event, Daisy who was 6th in the Senior Girls race and Archie who was 3rd in the Junior Boys competition. With each race consisting of 70 athletes, Leweston were the only school in the South West to have 4 athletes placing in the top 9.

Following the South West Championships, Daisy, Darcy, Lucy, Sam and Archie have all been selected to represent the County in the English Schools Championships in Liverpool on March 14th.

Equestrian

Congratulations to all members of our Senior Girls Cross-Country squad, who battled hard on the muddy hills of Kingswood School achieving Individual Gold for Daisy, Bronze for Darcy and Team Gold with Ginny and Lucie.

Winter training with Emma Fisher started at the beginning of January. We are lucky to have Emma situated close to Leweston, allowing training to continue in the dark winter months with our lunchtime and PE afternoon sessions. Emma likes to work on accurate riding, improving technique, rhythm and balance.

We had to brave the elements but it is definitely worth it !

Inter-House Gymnastics

We enjoyed another fantastic Inter-House Gymnastics and Dance Competition, with an impressive standard of routines from all of our finalists! This year marked the first Inter-House Gymnastics Competition involving boys since Leweston became a co-educational Senior School.

to everyone who took part in the lunchtime running and sports clubs.

Fantastic effort at the Elite Epee Series Fencing Competition!

Leweston had 6 fencers from the School take part in the Elite Epee Series Fencing Competition at Millfield in January, with three of the students experiencing their first fencing event!

This is a very high standard national series event with many international fencers taking part in the various age groups. The competition starts with fencers taking part in pools then seeded into direct elimination.

Viv T took part in the Open Woman’s event in the morning and finished 10th, narrowly losing 4-3 to the eventual winner, and in the afternoon competed in the Under 17 finishing Sixth. This was Sam S’s first fencing competition and he finished an impressive 16th in the Under 17.

In the Under 14 Fen T came 13th narrowly losing to the eventual winner with 15-12, Millie W finished 19th and Ginny B came 20th. In the Under 12 Amelia O was 11th. This was also Ginny and Amelia’s first fencing event experience.

This was an excellent learning opportunity for all athletes in preparation for National Tetrathlon and youth selection events coming up later in the year.

Success at the National Shooting Finals

Leweston School once again had great success at the National Schools Shooting Finals at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Aylesbury.

Leweston finished top School Team in the team events, with the Junior A Team (Molly C, Amelia O, Millie W) taking Team Silver and just missing Gold by a few points. The B Team (Evanna B, Nikita M, and Isla JC) came 6th.

The Intermediate Team achieved Silver with Ginny B, Darcy D, & Flora SB. In the last event of the day the Senior Team of Lottie T, Lily C, & Jenifer P just missed out of Team Bronze by a few points to come 4th.

This was a long day for the team but once again some excellent results achieved by Leweston.

Leweston to represent Dorset at NSEA Schools County Championships for third consecutive year!

Two Leweston teams contested the Dorset County Dressage qualifier on 23 February at Moreton Equestrian Centre with Team Leweston Steel taking the title and Team Leweston Royal placing 3rd.

We are delighted that this will be the third consecutive year Leweston has headed to the NSEA Schools County Championships with a team representing Dorset for the Dressage finals, which are being held at Hartpury College this year in April.

Congratulations to the Champions, Team Steel:- Â Molly C, Coco S, Issy C, and Flora M. Flora SB, Maisy M, Madeline RS (6th) and Charlie W were in the third placed team, Leweston Royal, showing the depth of strength we have with our dressage riding.

Coco S, on her young horse Masha’s Grey, was delighted to achieve 2nd in the Novice Individual qualifier and Issy C on Herbie was Individual 5th. Year 8 rider Maisy M rode in both classes and is one to watch for the future!

Alongside the Dressage Leweston took part in the Arena Eventing Qualifier for Hickstead, finishing with team wins at 80-85cm and 1m and a 2nd placing in the 90-95cm. Leweston riders went with the intention of gaining a few more individual qualifications for Hickstead so it was great to see May S, Jessica W, Madeline RS and Sacha GD achieve these elusive qualifications.

A massive well done to all of the Leweston riders, who should all be very proud of their continuous achievements.
