This is an invitation only society providing an informal programme of discussions, debates and tutorials for selected Sixth Form pupils. The aim is to give some of our most able pupils the opportunity to think beyond the constraints of their A Levels and provide extra stimulation and challenge.

Description Public speaking competitions to be entered by selected students in 6th Form. All Sixth Form are invited to enter the Inter-House Room 10 Public Speaking competition early in February with heats held if necessary. The winner and runner-up will be selected to enter the Catenian regional final in March.

Monday Lunchtime 1.30-2.05 Students can either work on their own projects or learn to knit / crochet to make scarfs, hats or soft toys.

Description

Tuesday Lunchtime Sessions to help individuals to manage stress and anxiety in particular in relation to exams.

Beginners German, placing emphasis on speaking and listening activities, games and songs to be able to deal with practical situations.

Japanese conversation and culture including learning the three writing systems used in Japanese.

A journey through some of the major Psychological concepts and principles. The aim will be to inspire interest and exploration of explanations for human thoughts and behaviour.

A 30-minute, high cardio, strengthening fitness session. Using state of the art Technogym Spin Bikes students will train both cardio and strength in this low impact, high energy class.

Description

Tuesday After School In the tradition of various schools of yoga and including KundaDance (yoga postures set to music as taught by Maya Fiennes). Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing. This is a mixed ability group. Please complete the separate Yoga consent form for this activity.

Description Irish set dancing derives from traditional social dancing in rural communities in Ireland. ‘Sets’ came from quadrilles, the eighteenth and nineteenth century court dances of France which spread across Europe. Learn a variety of traditional dances including: jigs, reels, polkas, slides and hornpipes Students should wear smooth soled (ideally leather) shoes. Trainers unless they are jazz trainers are unsuitable.

Gym 1.10-2.00 (each lesson is twenty minutes) 1.05 1.05 Wednesday After School 4.45-5.45 MUN (Model United Nations) is a simulation of United Nations debates in which students role-play as delegates from the member Economics and states. We aim to prepare students to take part in Model UN Business Room conferences where they can develop their public speaking and debating skills.

Various Ballet classes are taught by Claire Derrick from the Helen Laxton depending on School of Dance. We train children in the Royal Academy of group Dance syllabus which is suitable for all ages from nursery to sixth form pupils. The classes are arranged by age and ability. Private lessons are also available.

Submitting primarily savoury recipes each week, they can cook HE room whatever they wish within the hour. An opportunity to explore techniques they want to learn and develop their confidence in the kitchen with an essential skill.

In Wild Art Club we will use nature and the sciences as our inspiration to create art work. We will be taking a creative look at the world around us and gaining a better understanding of the world in which we live.

Aimed at students who are interested in developing their cycling skills and fitness for road cycling or triathlon.
